Quite an old thread, but I'll add to it.

Bleeding gums and the new vaper!!!

My periodontist (a dentist who specialises in gums) recommended that I start to vape. I was on the NRT and trying to get off of it quickly because I thought, like some of the posters above, that nicotine restricted the blood flow in gums. This led to failure of cessation, and back to ciggies, and cold turkey attempts, and back to NRT - smoking - failure etc... You've all been there.

The thing is though, if the nicotine causes vascular constriction in gums, why would all these new vapers have bleeding? Could it be that they are just getting less nic? Well they probably are but that's not the reason. The reason is that the nic doesn't!

If you read through this linked page you'll get the idea: The role of nicotine in bleeding - Registered Dental Hygienist

One most important thing to add: Your bleeding may be a sign of a problem (it may just be normal so don't freak out) that the smoking has been hiding from you by stopping your gums from bleeding. Anyone who sees blood when brushing their teeth needs to go and see a dentist; it may be that all you need is a good going over by a hygienist, but you need to go and get it checked.

The bleeding is a good thing in that your circulation is improving, and lots of nice carbon monoxide free, and oxygen rich blood, is flowing about the place. But the fact that you are bleeding may just be a sign that smoking has been hiding an oral problem. Go see your nice dentist.
