If you have access to an air compressor with a blower nozzle, shoot some air into each air vent as well, and in every nook and cranny you can find... All the ash and dust that collects in some areas is almost impossible to get out otherwise. I blew out all sorts of crap from around the steering wheel and behind the dash.

A detail shop will have an ozone machine. They turn on ac, close up the car, run the hose through the window, and no more smoke.

I have an ozone machine i used in my house due to mold issues (zaps that stuff). My first step toward trying to quit analogs was a vow to NEVER smoke in the car again. I chain smoked in the car. I recently traded for a larger car, and it was listed as "smoke free" by the dealer.

I just plugged in the ozone machine, cracked the first two windows so new air entered to make ozone, set the ac on medium so the air circulated through the vents and filter, and boom!...no more smoke smell. Didn't even have to replace the filter.

I did this over two days, running the machine on high for an hour or so each time. The detail folks will have a much more powerful machine, though if you have one available, it will definitely clear the smell...any smell.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned one of the best air cleaners! A lot of air filters have it impregnated. It sounds goofy, but put about a pound of Kingsford charcoal in a mesh laundry bag and jam it under the seat. Charcoal absorbs odors. I kept a bag in my car even when I smoked, and the smell never got like some other smokers' cars I got in.

Use regular ol' plain-jane charcoal, not the match-light. It has some accelerant starter in it.

Zero Odor works very well .... You can find it online or Bed Bath and Beyond (the only brick and mortar that has it in my area). It's $12-$13 for a good size bottle that will last a while. The smell is very neutral and you can spray it and still be in the car. Comes in handy if you're picking a friend up that hates the smell of smoke lol.

I found both these products together work extremely well. I use the tuff stuff for cleaning it works wonders! I use it alone cause i like the smell but use another product with tuff stuff to get rid of smells perm. Meguiars car odor eliminator for the stuborn smells. I've never had either discolor anything in my car but i would def recomend a testing area. The tuff stuff really works well for cleaning and i mean i use it on all my car surfaces with great results except glass and the clear plastic over my instruments lol. Once that is dry i use the odor eliminator and wa la done.
