I decided to do the DIY thing and make my own ejuice. I bought the supplies and found a clone for Juicy Vapors Ecto Plasma but it just doesnt taste right and the after taste is bad. The smell is nice and sweet from the bottle though.

I used the juice Me Up calculator to try and make a 5ml, 50/50 PG/VG mix with no nicotine. The guy that put together the recipe did all TFA flavors. The percentages were as follows:

8% Lemon Lime
6% Hawaiian Drink
3% Tutti Fruitti
2% Cotton Candy

The calc said to do:

1.55ml PG
2.5ml VG
0.4ml Lemon Lime
0.3ml Hawaiian Drink
0.15ml Tutti Fruitti
0.1ml Cotton Candy

I just dont understand what is going wrong. Any info that might help would be appreciated.

Thanks

What type of measuring devices are you using for those tenths of a ml?

When I started my DIY I realized I needed to calibrate my drops/ml with the droppers I was using. The 20 drops/ml norm was not right and had to adjust my recipe app accordingly. That made all the difference in the world to my DIY!

When I do 5-10 ml test batches I use those tiny dropper pipettes which are 40 drops per ml. Anything larger, I use syringes.

I am using 5ml syringes which have 0.2ml markings. I do have some 3ml and 1ml pipettes. I didnt change the 20 drops/ml setting in the calc since i figured using the syringe would be more accurate.

For me anything over 1 ml I use the syringes. Anything under I use these. These are the ones that were 40 drops. I find I get more accurate results under a ml with these.

If you are going to use a syringe for a 10ml batch you need a 1ml syringe with 0.01ml increments.

Hey, I just ordered a bunch of different flavors... I've always been good with matching scents for candles and was looking for a challenge. I got a lot of my measuring equipment from my aunt who works for the government making and testing explosives, so I have some of the most accurate equipment out there! If you're interested in trading some recipes that you've found to be good, that would be really cool!

New to DIY myself but you might want to try leaving it breath and/or steep, rip tripper has a good vid on YouTube about that if you want to check it out, I usually make a small 10 or 15 ml bottle to try, and a larger 60 ml or more to steep, sometimes the steeped bottle tastes better after a week or so. Got to the point I'm mixing batches a week or two in advance, while vaping the prior week batch.

I have trouble with many TFA flavors. Many like flavors that I do not.
It could be as simple as that.
Overall I like Capella flavors, however mixed up some Capella Strawberries n Cream and it seems to not like me very much. I have reactions to some artificial ingredients.
I also use the little 1 ml pipettes for drops and small measures.

Thats the type of schedule I want to be on...

Well I think I've figured out it has something to do with the flavors and not the PG or VG. I made a small batch of equal amounts of PG and VG and vaping it has no taste, just vapor so it has to be one of the other flavors causing the problem.

Would it make sense for me to load the PG/VG amounts directly into my tank then add each flavor one by one with vaping the contents inbetween to see which causes the bad flavor?

All over the place
I will likely purchase a 1ml syringe to make it easier however i thought i could be fairly accurate by going between the lines for 0.1 increments.

A smidgen too much here or there can make a huge difference with certain flavorings. Assuming you got the measurements spot-on, I would start cutting down the percentages some. A bad aftertaste will never solely come from too little flavoring, so if it smells good but doesn't taste good, start dropping the flavoring. You could just add some more PG/VG to the mix you've already made to see how that works (use a few certain percentages like 10%, 25% or even 50%, and then log in the percentage drop and apply that to your mix if you find one that works). And also know that someone else's mix is generally the easiest way to please someone else's palate, but not your own. DIYing can be easy if starting with simple mixes, but it is largely an art that you have to figure out on your own, even with the plethora of recipes out there. Let your palate guide you with simple mixes first.

It's the lemonlime always leaves very bad aftertaste.

Vendors limes, I have swapped out wicks to get that taste out. It's worse than some cherries ewwwww horrid flavor and lasting residual. Pineapple flavors is another.

To become a jedi flavorist one must learn each flavor individually then mix at will. IMO

Make a bigger batch, 10ml is so small that a .1ml change is a huge difference

Ya it is huge with some flavors. If you want accuracy for small samplers 5ml and under buy some 100cc syringe 100cc is 1ml exactly. You can nail it down acutely. I took some 100cc hyperdermic needle from walgreens cut off the needle tip and use them everytime. You would be surprised how inaccurate counting drops are. So easy in cc's for .1 its 10cc's very simple no mistakes.
