My DIY juice is making me sick.

This is the first time this has ever happened, so I'm wondering what the heck happened with this batch. I ordered some clear coffee flavoring (The Flavor Apprentice), and I used it with the same e-juice recipe I've been using for months. From the very first puff I started gagging. It tastes like a combination of potpourri, or alcohol, or perfume. It's hard to describe, but the smell is so strong it's burning my nostrils and I can't get away from it. What's going on here? Is it a bad batch of flavor? I can't imagine anyone would willingly vape this, so I really doubt anyone intentionally made this flavor. It's supposed to be coffee, but the perfume-type scent is so strong I can't taste the coffee at all. It's almost like I opened a bottle of perfume and dumped it in my e-cigarette. I wish I could open the windows and air out the house, but it's way the frick too cold outside.

Has this ever happened to anyone before? Is it something I did, or is there something wrong with the flavor?

Ya, know, it sounds like you vaped the flavoring instead of the juice.

Shoot an email to Linda, assuming you bought it from TPA, and ask if there are any issues with the batch yours came from.

I'd double check myself on the mixing. I've been distracted by a phone call and doubled the dose of flavoring and only noticed when the bottle overflowed. Now I don't take calls while mixing...

I'm still kinda new to the DIY stuff, but I guess the steeping suggestion makes sense. One time I bought a pre-mixed coffee flavor and thought it was absolutely disgusting the first day I tried it. I stuck it in a drawer and forgot about it. Then I found myself out of juice and used it out of desperation and discovered I liked it. It didn't occur to me that the flavor changed while it sat, I just assumed my taste buds were off the first time. This sucks, it basically means I'm going to have to start mixing my juice a month or so in advance:ohmy:

One thing to consider, if you have recently opened a new bottle of nicotine, is some vendors have, at various points in the past, added unspecified chemicals to prevent color change and some people (not all) cannot stand any e-juice made from those bottles of nic.

If you are using the same bottle of nic, tho ... that's not likely the problem.

Another thing -- if you mix in small batches, dropper bottles are not super-precise and a tiny bit of variation in the amount of a drop will show up more readily in small batches than large.

BAHA!! reading some of these DIY stories...my first batch I used 20% spearmint. Everything (even air) tasted like spearmint for a solid week!! No joke!! Even my wife's cooking reeked of spearmint! (She's a fabulous cook.) I poured that batch over some offending weeds in the yard. There is a bare spot there now. :glare:

My next batch was unflavored. I think I got distracted by the TV, or a butterfly or something and DOUBLED my nic. (I was making 36 mg.) I immediately posted that something was wrong with my VG or something like that...

Anyway...you already have excellent advice. Just don't give up! Oh! And make sure you pay att...Hey...what is that shiny object over there..........

how big was the bottle you ordered? I ordered a 4 oz dk tobacco a while back and had the same reaction. the juice was ok after it steeped a good while. I started moving some over to a 15 ml bottle to mix with. at max my juice made from it steeps a day. I just refill my 15 ml bottle when its about 1/4 full and after I have used it so it sits before next use.

maybe even letting the flavor sit open a while will help.

Its the clear coffee flavoring. Stuff is extra strong and if you search here for it you'll see others complaining of the same problem with the smell. I threw mine away. Wasn't so much the taste but the smell, I couldn't get it out of my nose. Awful stuff.

I have been wondering if I'm having this sort of issue with the peanut butter I ordered from DIY Flavor Shack. It isn't perfumey really.. it's more like.. WEAK way weak. seriously. idk

but I'm new at DIY so I thought maybe it was just me. But I used over half a bottle and tasted nothing

Same for me with the capellas cheesecake. Someone had said it was really strong but after putting a ton of it in a sample in my atty, nothing but sweetness, that was it. Figured it was me but who knows. I'd never vaped cheesecake before and couldn't imagine what it should taste like (vaped) so I just assume its not a flavor I'll like and move on :).
