I've been using my T attys for a little over a week. Recently they both developed a nasty burnt taste. I was thinking they must be dirty, since it happened to both about the same time. So I watched videos, and dismantled them. Cleaned in the strongest vodka I had, a rinse with water, and a very slight dry burn. They are both LR attys, so I was afraid to overdo it, and ruin them.

I still had a nasty burnt taste after making it through almost an entire tank on them. Thinking it might be the little bit of burnt colored stuff still on the wick, I set out to burn the crud off, like I read about. I barely touched the wick, and it fell apart. Not out of the mest, broke, like all the little fibers just broke off when I touched them.

I've ordered some zippo wicks to replace the wicks (good deal on amazon) and those should be here soon. Other than the wick, and idea what might still be causing the gross taste? Should I clean the attys again? Maybe I didn't get everything off. I was loving my Ts. Now I'm stuck using my regular ego attys.. :(

I personally think that your issue is coming from a gunked up coil. Sometimes you have to do a few dry burns to get everything completely off. Had this happen a few times the problem was the coil in my experience. The wick can be the issue but, it will have a bunch of gunked up juice on it which will be very visible. If you need some instructions as to how I dry burn it. Then this is what I do:

*Make sure that all the water is out of there before you begin dry burning. This will make the atty burn hotter than usual.

1. Press the button down for 1 second and let it go. Repeat a few times until you see smoke start rising.
2. Stop and let it rest for a little to allow the coil to cool down.
3. Repeat step one & two.
4. Do this until you see all the gunked up juice turn to ash.
5. Rinse it out and blow all the water out of it.
6. Repeat steps 1-5.
7. You will know when your done when you press the button and the whole coil glows immediately.

Sorry about what happened to your wick. You might burned it to much. When I burn the wick. I touch it with the flame and the gunked up juice will catch on fire. I immediately blow it out and repeat the process until I see that the wick turns "white". I have heard people buy zippo wicks but, it's better to get silica rope that can handle heat a lot better:

McMaster-Carr

It's been a while and so I'm hazy about which one is best. I think it's the Round Braided 3/8" size.

The silica rope you get dosn't really matter much because you buy it by the foot and unweave it to use just a few fibers. One foot should last a dozen heavy vapers for years. When you modify the wick like in the simple CJ mod, it uses such a tiny amount of fiber, there will be tons left over for a looooong time to come.

I believe your wicj isn't making proper contact with the coil. Use a paper clip to lower the wick "SLIGHTLY" that should solve the burnt taste (dry atty) syndrome.
