Funny, after more than a year, I still have to drive with the window cracked...just can't get used to the quiet driving...unless it's pouring or snowing, of course.

I have always driven with my window down. Even before I smoked I just do not like feeling that enclosed, Rain Snow.... Hail.... that one hurts a bit. But I have flicked an ecig out the window

I smoked for 27 years, and vaping permanently replaced my habit of smoking real cigs on day one and I haven't looked back. I started with 18 mg strength juice, but juice strength will vary for everyone. That seems to coincide with what I have been reading here on the ECF forums. One of the tips I got from here was NOT to select a juice which was too low on nic content at first because you want to match what you were getting on analogs, thus making the withdrawal symptoms as weak as possible. In my case, I had/still have absolutely 0 withdrawal symptoms that I am aware of. Welcome!

Because we're considered heavy smokers, we went with the 24mg juice and hope to taper down from there.

I did get some advice from a friend at work. He started with 24 mg and after a year or so I thinks he's down to 1-2mg or something like that.

Good advice. I was a 3+ pad smoker. I started at 24mg...then after 3 months, I started to drop the levels. I kind of had to, as I was getting anxiety, dizzy, yada, yada. After 1 year I'm mostly at 9mg...all though there are days when I need a little more.

I smoked 1 PAD for almost 50 years and when I retired figured I'd try vaping as a way to cut down because there was no way I'd ever quit completely. I was on the back deck having a smoke when the kit arrived and was so shocked that vaping was so similar to smoking that I accidently quit that day. Every time I wanted a smoke I just vaped. Started out with 24 mg and within a couple months found that 12-15 mg was just fine.

The thing is with vaping is that you can just keep it in your pocket and have a toke or 2 whenever you feel like it. With a cigarette you have to smoke the whole thing or waste it. My hubby got his kit the same day. He was a 2 PAD smoker. He immediately went down to 6-10 cigs a day and after about 3 months found that he enjoyed vaping much better and hasn't had a cigarette since. We would still have days when we'd crave a cig, but we just vaped more or used a higher nic at those times and it worked. Everybody finds their own pace and there's plenty of choices out there to make it fun and enjoyable. And it's SO NICE to be able to stay inside or even sneak a vape even on a plane without freaking everyone out. We feel so much better and life is so much easier.

Good luck to you on your journey - hope you enjoy the ride. ECF is a wealth of info and support so don't be afraid to ask questions and search out answers.

It's been 1-1/2 hours now. Only had 1 real cigarette and a bunch of vaping.

It's still very weird 'smoking' in the house. But my wife is right with me doing the same thing. We are going outside out of habit.

No dizziness, no hallucinations...a few cravings. I caught myself getting up to have smoke and then realizing that I could vape at the desk.

One thing I did notice...I'm still coughing, but not quite as much. I'm sure once the tobacco tar starts clearing my sputum will look like cured asphalt.

The habit part of cigarette smoking is going to be hard to break. Being a two pack a day smoker I developed habits like everyone else. Going outside. 3 smokes upon waking. Smoking like a fiend while drinking...you know, those sort of things. It's sort of like your mind has you conditioned to perform certain actions at certain times.

Don't over think it. You are familiar with the "standard" conventional wisdom only so far - people "mourn" stuff when they quit smoking. The ritual of smoking, flicking your Bic, you are giving up so much etc. Not to worry! You have just opened up a whole new toy box to play with!

Why this works - and what you will never get Big Pharma, the ACS etc. to ever accept - is there are things about vaping to actually like. You get to swap ritual with ritual. No more lighters - now you will be invested in the rituals of battery charging and carto filling instead. Chasing packs to make sure you didn't forget your butts? Wait to see how you react the first time you realize you left the house for work without your e-cig. And the flavors... Vaping flavors might seem weird at first - it did to me too. Your new habit/hobby will be spending hours on line, trying to decide who has the best banana cream vape. There is plenty more ritual/habit/hobby to replace anything you fear missing about smoking than you realize right now. Except this is much healthier for you. And cheaper too.

Good going!
With me, a week or so after I got my first kit, I lit a cigarette, took a puff, and said, "self, that simply tastes nasty. Why not just vape and be done with the cigarettes?". And so I was. That simple. Went from 1.5 packs a day to 24 mg vaping.
Vaping at my desk/computer was a huge benefit.
And you'll probably find some habits shifting - you'll take a couple puffs, then start doing something else. Vape between the car and the store...without "wasting half a cigarette".

MOST people find that when they first start, they sort of "chain-vape" and then eventually it settles down a bit...

Doing well. I did manage a slight buzz as I think I was vaping too much. Haven't had a buzz like that since the 70's!

I did manage to spill all the juice when I was trying to determine what replacement parts I would need.

I placed an order w/ fast tech for some extra atomizers, coils, case, and some extra batteries. The juice, however, I will not buy from China.

Imagine shooting muzzleloaders all your life and hearing how dangerous it would be to use smokeless powder in ANY muzzleloader. Then one day a company makes a smokeless muzzleloader and its a hit with many people. Its built to similar standards as would be required with a normal rifle.

Well i did that two years ago and i even had two specially built with custom barrels. One was even built for me by one of the best smiths in the world on his own custom action.

Well, it still feels weird once in a while but i cant argue with my results. I could not be happier. The only part for me that feels weird with vaping, is once in a while my other hand still reaches for the lighter i used to keep on the table.

When I was practicing with the Flings last week I lit one by mistake. Fire and brimstone erupted all up in my face. I had molten plastic running down my left cheek. My wife laughed and asked if I was stoned.

I might catch some flack for this, but it worked for me. Just stomp on the damned pack of stinkies and just be done with them. If you have a carton, just sell them for pennies on the dollar. Just say "This is what I have" and think of the positives! Don't worry about tapering down on the nic, or chain vaping. This isn't smoking! I have been vaping straight for almost 2 years. Not one cigarette or thought of one. I bounce between 6mg nic and 18mg daily! The nic is a nice little "pick me up" if I vape the 18 mg and get a headache, I whip out my zero nic DIY and have at that. I am doing my "habit replacement therapy".

BTW, that is a nice starter kit! Looks like you are taking steps in the right direction!

Sent from my .... in your general direction

I wouldn't use soap!!
Hot water may do it, or if you've got a dark juice, or want to really get rid of a juice flavor to switch to a new one, you could soak it in vodka - even overnight - then rinse again. You want stuff nice and dry before use - so it's nice to have extra of these parts to use while the other one's drying.

You don't need to clean it every use either - I often will even fill with a new flavor without a wash - surprisingly, a little leftover Turkish Tobacco does not go badly with Strawberry Smoothie.
If your juice gets your coil REALLY gunked up, search here and learn about the "dry burn" - but personally, I haven't YET found that necessary (my coils seem to just DIE before they ever get gunky - and yes, I know I need to start rebuilding them).

I forgot to ask...

How do I clean the atomizer? I know how to break it down and remove the coil, after that is it just some dish soap and hot water?

What atomizers did you get from FastTech?
I ask, because with FastTech, you want to know what you're getting...
They have quality, name brand stuff at great prices - and they also have "knockoffs".
So you can get the popular Innokin iClear 16 for $3, but you can also get no-name "CE4" atomizers 6-for-$8 that might be crappy copies of something.

( I don't know if those fit your kit - just an example)

Here's what we got:

T4 Atomizers
Coils
3 batteries
510/EGO adapter
Lanyard & Case

The T4 atomizers are very similar to what our kit uses except they will need an adapter. No biggie the adapter was only a buck. Since we both now vape that will give us 5 generic batteries. No LCD/LED. No twist. No voltage spike kill your eye ball things.

By reading here first, we're not going crazy on mods or custom anything. Although I admit some of the custom vape machines are very, very nice.

It's now 7 hours...only 1 regular cigarette! Just vaping away.

My Fellow Belleau Woodsman! About two weeks in and vaping is friggin gosh durn outstanding! (Sorry for the little bout of motivation)

After three days I had one drag off a cig I bummed and it tasted terrible. Things can change that fast. When not at work I vape 18mg near constantly, and when at work I vape 24 on smoke breaks. That's worked for me from being a 1.5 pad smoker. No looking back!

Good luck! Stick around these forums for great advice and info, but be warned it may make you want to spend lots and lots of money (but probably still less than you would've on cigs)
