Can be worth revisiting simple solutions - running 0.8 ohms, single micro coil at 10 watts and loving it! Hope you find one that suits you soon!
0.8 ohms may give you a 10watt vape on a regulated mod but you would need 1.3 ohms to get 10 watts on a mech mod. I use 6 turns 3.0 mm diameter awg 28 kenthal to get a 10 watt vape on my nemesis with a subtank rba and it works great for me

You'll be right - thanks! I'd got the reading indeed on my iStick and assumed when I put the thing on my mech that things were the same as the vape seemed so similar in temperature, taste, and even sound.

As it says in the signature - "an Old Dog learning new tricks"...and there's a lot to learn!

Nah, I take full responsibility for not researching. I just saw folks blowing huge clouds, and since I could with a regulated device, I didn't expect it to be different.

I still don't understand how a regulated device gets more "power" from the same battery and build as a mech.
a regulated mod does not get more power. it is just able to boost the voltage on a higher resistance coil.if you lower the resistance you will get the same power from a mech.they do require a little more knowledge and skill than a regulated mod but once you learn how to design and build coils you may find the simple reliability of a mech attractive

we are all here to learn and help each other get more out of this hobby. the only man who knows it all is a "young fool"

I'm excited for you!

I'm still strugglin' to find a build that will give me a satisfyin' vape on my mechs, but I will keep tryin'....

I don't know what atty you are using. But this configuration has worked well for me. 28g kanthal, 5 wraps in a 2.5mm screwdriver, cotton just long enough to touch the deck. Make sure the cotton pulls through fairly easily.
You can do it 28th

I have since learned the error of that thinking.
I'm working on builds that will allow me to cloud chase like the pros. :vapor:

I also recently got into the world of mechs and am loving it. got a single cell tube and a dual wooden mech with mosfet etc. love both of them and both are great quality. Also took me some learning and i still am. Luckily i had some awesome help from the people at my local B&M. Im running 2 twisted staggered fused claptons in my 13 heavens 9 hells RDA at 0.01 ohms. and oh baby it's amazing. pretty chunky builds for a mech but i like the ramp up time, even with regulated gear i like a good ramp up.This is going to win me my next cloud comp. came second in my last one.

I hope that's a typo.
You said cloud comp, which usually requires a single cell.
.01ohm is about 10x the safe CDR of any single cell.
That's not winning a cloud comp, that's winning the Darwin Award.

partial typo. I mean't 0.11 which is pretty high however im using DUAL vtc4's so i don't really see any issue. If you think there is though i would like to hear your input as to why (always good to learn).

This comp is does not require single cell. it's pretty casual. we only have one dedicated vape shop here in Dunedin and only a small community of vapers. They have a monthly bbq and vape comp and other cool things.

to give you an idea of the comp, last time was my first time entering and i entered with my segelei and the same RDA (can't remember the ohms) set to 140 watts and came second. easy takings my friend lol.

That's better.

The way you worded the post plus the insanely low resistance it seemed like you were using a single cell.

I have been interested in mech mods for awhile now, mostly because I have not been able to get a regulated device to last more than 6 months. I either have terrible luck or am hard on my equipment. I use RBAs in all my tanks and have a Velocity dripper clone I bought just to play around with.
I haven't been able to figure out if it was something I really wanted to invest in. I understand all the basic principals of their operation and what not and have read a bunch of of articles about their safe operation. So I was asking one of the guys at a local B&M about them. I explained to him I really didn't know if I wanted to mess with one or not. He kind of explained how they work and how the coils are really the key to making the device work the way you want. Then he told me that they have some on sale for $5.00. He pulled out an Eh Pro Dynast and a Kamry K100. I ended up picking the Dynast, new Samsung 25r and a spool of 24 gauge kanthal. I figured, $5 was a reasonable cost to at least try one out.

Got it home put the battery on the charger, wrapped up a couple of coils wicked it up. It was Too hot and spitty, resistance was around 2.8ish. I pulled it apart and Wrapped another coil, too cool and too long to heat up resistance was around 4.5. So I pulled it apart again and wrapped up 2, 24g, 6 wrap contact coils on a 3mm Screw driver came out to .35ish. (I preface the ish part with the fact that my eleaf ohm meter read the atty at .35 and my IPV D3 read it at .3). Wow, just about perfect. Nice vapor production and great flavor. A little cool but I tend to like a little cooler vape. I will definitely play around with it some more but I have it running pretty well right now and am enjoying it immensely. There is something satisfying about getting a nice vape off a totally mechanical device.

I just wanted to share my experience, Hope I didn't bore you all.
with any tank or dripper finding the right coil is a process of trial and error. we all have different taste and preferences so you have to play with your builds to find what works best for you on the device that your using.it will take time to gain the experience and knowledge to build coils that taste good to you but its worth the time and effort to get a great vape
