Hi everyone, great forum and most of my questions have been sorted with a few searches!!
I've been vaping around 4 months, kicked the analogues well and truly, I've been using a protank 3 and I have no problems with it at all great vape sat on a sentinel m16 mod with a kick at 11 watts!! I recently got a nimbus v5 and for the love of it I can't get it to work nice, I either get really harsh with not much vape and lots of spitting and crackling or burnt taste!! I've tried silica wick and cotton and I'm using .20mm kanthal usually around 1.5-1.8 ohms, is there anything I'm doing wrong??? It was even worse before I got the kick.... I've been rebuilding for a while and can do evods etc with no problems but this thing has baffled me, any help really appreciated!!

Welcome! What type of coils are you using (micro, macro, 4/3 wrap, etc.)? Just a hunch, but you may be over-wicking and/or over-juicing your RDA. There's also a chance it could be the juice itself, I've had a few that perform better in tanks at lower power. .20 mm (32g) is also higher resistance than most seem to use in drippers, you may want to try a lower gauge such as .32 mm (28g) with more wraps to achieve your target resistance. You may benefit from the added surface area by using the larger wire.

I'm not really that sure what coils I'm using, I do a micro in the protank but on the nimbus I've just been wrapping around the wick with about 3mm gap between coils, around 5 wraps in total!! I've watched some tutorials and thought I'd done mine the same, then I thought it was my mod so I ordered the kick which has vastly improved my protank but I'm still struggling with the nimbus!!

Could be that your coils aren't heating evenly, maybe you have a hot spot or hot leg. If you're already proficient with wrapping microcoils, try using them on the nimbus with just enough cotton wick to slide freely through the coils with just a little resistance. And leave space above and below the coils so they don't get choked off. Less is more, especially when using cotton wick. Just enough to make sure it's in contact with the inner diameter of the coil, and enough on the deck to hold a bit of juice.

One more thing to consider is the size of the airholes, IIRC the nimbus comes stock with tiny ones. If nothing else works maybe drill them out a little bit to get more airflow. On my fixed airhole RDAs I drilled them out to no smaller than 1/16", most around 3/32". Currently using a Stillare clone with adjustable airflow to take that variable out of the equation.

I've just re wicked it but the only other size kanthal I have is really thick, got 10 wraps on, really snug coils on a 2mm drill bit, around 10 coils gave me 1.0ohm!! Had to remove my kick as I won't fire that low, used some cotton wool not too much and not too tight!! Just did one coil instead of twin and it was the same again, really harsh and not much vape????
Put a fresh charged 18650 efest 2000mah imr batt in and still the same, I'm at an absolute loss as to where I'm going wrong, I've never had this trouble with an evod or protank, my nimbus has 4 air holes 2 on either side to line up with coil around 1 -1.5 mm each in diameter!!

The #1 rule with wicking is, keep fraking with it till it works. It's all about density through or around the coils and the properties of the fiber, material, being used for wick.

Every time I switch to a new fiber, got to learn all over again. Sometimes it gets easier to figure out, some times not. lmao

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your vape progress. You now have enough posts that you can post on your countries sub forum, and most every place else on the ecf. ECF, the place to get ones Vape On!!

Vape long and Prosper!!!!!
