Hello folks,
I have only been using PV's for a couple weeks now so I don't have a lot of experience in public but I did have a positive one last night.

I went to a restaurant/bar last night for dinner and decided to ask what the policy was regarding vaping. To my suprise, the waitress quickly said "Oh yeah, no problem". I am convinced that asking and complying with the policy will be my standard etiquette when in restaurants. The ones that allow it will get more of my money.

Keep in mind that in Michigan there is a ban on smoking in all public places except cigar bars and casinos so the whole restaurant is non-smoking. I didn't see anyone else vaping but I also did not get any notice from the other people. It was great and I will be eating there more often then I otherwise might.

Hi Landrake -

Welcome! I have vapped in restaurants, hardware stores, dental offices, convenience stores, grocery stores (I'm just trying to think back), at church indoor potlucks! Really, I haven't had a problem yet. Before I do I usually pull it out to show someone on staff or management or the ministers wife! They are more curious than anything and it has been easy to vape after that. many are very supportive of my quitting smoking - I think my dentist even gave me a big discount on some future work, influenced in part by my quitting (or so I think)... Helps offset the huge investment I've made in e cigs!

I have a local watering hole that I frequented quite often, vaping with no problem (with their approval, of course). Decent food and it's within walking distance of my house. It all went great for about a year until they got anonymously tipped on a smoking violation... Ohio has an indoor smoking ban and a 'tip line' where people can call and report violators. I, of course, got blamed- this is despite the fact that vaping indoors isn't illegal AND I had explicit approval from both the ownership and many of the employees, who are fully aware of what vaping is. Luckily Ohio does send an inspector to violators to do a random walk through to double check these things- I'm guessing that there was plenty of abuse by competitors and vindictive customers in the past to justify this expense. The bar/restaurant wasn't fined in the end. That said, it made the ownership gun-shy and vaping is discouraged (although if it is just locals and staff they have no problem with it). I sort of avoid the problem by avoiding the bar. The only good part of all this is that it saves me $$$ by encouraging me to eat my meals at home more often. At least there no one can "report" me for vaping to my hearts content.

I'm thinking about getting some business cards or flyers to carry in order to increase awareness of vaping. Right now, though, the sad fact is that if it looks like smoke there are certain people that will simply fly off the handle. What can you do?
