My fix for leaking/gurgling Protanks kills the taste. Advice?

So, my patience with the bottom coil tanks is starting to become strained. Half the time, there is no issue; but during the other half, I get gurgling and flooding of the atty.

I have determined that the issue -- an issue which I have with all three of my protanks -- is that the as I draw off of it, the negative pressure sometimes allows liquid to flow in around the wicks and flood the chambers.

I have found a way to fix it, but adding a little bit of cotton on top, essentially plugging the leak; however, this also seems to serve to kill the taste, much like how a cotton filter serves to do the same with an analog cigarette. Moreover, cotton seems to scorch very quickly, thereby also negatively affecting the taste.

Anyone else discover this? I could really use some advice on how to deal with this. It's starting to really piss me off.

Most of the bottom coil toppers can do that, and there are several possibilities that come to mind.

Some have reported those symptoms when the tank is down to about 1/3, so if that's when it starts up, keep them topped up.

You may be drawing too hard / fast, and that will pull juice past the flavor wick. I find that when the coil starts to gunk I have a tendency to do that (and maybe crank up the power) to get the vape I want. Best to swap in a fresh coil, though.

Too much flavor wick will compress everything under the chimney - the coil - and choke the flow, causing dry hits. That said, many here use cotton for the wicking material. When kept wet and unscorched, it works very well.

If you buy good heads made by kanger or you rubuild them like i do you can have heads that won't do that. I make a 2mm wick on bottom with the coil and either 2 1mm wicks on top or on 2mm wick. Never have a flooded tank. Make sure you screw the head in good and that all your gaskets/o-rings are in place too. There is an o-ring on the head and one on the base. Also if you get a gap in the glass at the top it will do that.

The cotton going in needs to be very wispy and fluffy. If your using stock coils you can continue to find the right size and density for what your doing.. Or remove all the flavor wicks from the stock head... lightly form a wispy cotton wick just the right size to fill the void In the wick channels with the chimney on. Check it after the cotton is soaked for 5 min. Make sure it's not to thin per too thick in the channels. Adjust size / density as needed. You don't want it overly full of cotton. When running properly you should see air bubbles rising into the tank about every 4 Vapes or so, depending on the size of your draws.
