Hi all!

First off, SORRY if I'm in the wrong place! I'm REELING at how much this place and the Ecigs have changed!!!

I USED to be active on here. This was back when the forum looked completely different. Back then the only ecigs really available were 510's, 901's, The Chuck, Janty ego JUST came out and there were various new Box mods etc that people were learning to make. I stocked up on atomizers and made my own juice back when you only had a choice of VG, PG, PEG and Loranne's food flavorings as acceptable flavors to add to liquids. USB Passthroughs were experimental and I got one of those. I've been using those tools for the past 2? 3? years? SOMETHING like that... I don't know exactily how long it's been but time FLEW!

I'm looking at getting an update. I want a 5V PV that has a battery that lasts more then an hour or so of vaping. I want to find out what's good and REPUTABLE these days... I want to know the BEST flavors right now and find new tips for mixing. Mostly I want.. no NEED to update my PVs. I think I need something safer, my Chuck isn't vented - just realized recently after starting to read a bit again that it's an issue... My EGO is wearing down on me and I'm tired of replacement parts and I just need a change.

SO. What PV do you recommend me to bring me back up to date?

.... I'll go bury myself in reading... WOW I'll be at it for AGES.... FEEL LIKE a CAVEMAN re-visiting here and finding all the new stuff...

Thanks for any tips!!!

I personally recommend a Provari. I don't recommend it for newbies but you seem to know a bit. I wouldn't waste my money on other mods hunting around for what you really need, a Provari. You can buy cheaper vv mods from other sites but they aren't going to last as long or work as good. I like that I can actually see what my atomizer is vaping at on the dial. I still have KGO for the office, but at home and sometimes even at work I use my Provari.

HAHAHHAHAHA YUP! EXACTILY how I feel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL~!!!
ProVari huh? Looks VERY interesting! If this was put out there back when I was active people woulda FLIPPED OUT! LOL

Anything comparable or is it one of the unofficial best out there atm? Just curious so I have stuff to compare. I'm ok with spending a good chunk on a GOOD reliable PV.

... Wow variable voltage meter... LOTS and LOTS to catch up on!

Provari is the top of the heap. If that's a little too much, Apollo has their V-Tube that is variable voltage and can be bought for $60 - $73 in chrome or stainless steel, respectively. (Use the "vtube30" coupon code for 30% off to get those prices.) Those 2 models seem to be a little better built than the generic "lavatube" models. But there's no doubt the Provari is better all around.

If you're happy with fixed voltage and just want something you can take to the apocalypse with you, you could check out the Silver Bullet. Extremely high quality and dependable. Lots of stories around about the abuse these things have survived.

Then, once you've pick a new PV, you will be amazed at all the tanks, clearomizers, "fluxomizers" and other stuff that's available now.

I'm a big ProVari fan but a nice alternative to try Variable voltage would be the eGo Twist. It's relatively inexpensive and it ranges from 3.2 to 4.8 volts. It has the 510 style threads which gives the most options for buying cartomizers, tanks, and other gear. It's a fairly cheap way to start upgrading your gear and finding out what direction the industry seems to be headed.

notcigs has excellent variable voltage, too, high performance, very good reputation for ruggedness and customer service. Their first production unit was the buzz, their current series are the Pro line.

They use a buck regulator, very simple user interface, just a voltage adjust wheel, no lcd. A different design paradigm from the provari; it just depends on what appeals to a given person.

I too don't recommend the Provari to a newbie, but in your case I will. If you've been vaping this long and want to upgrade, this is an excellent choice. I usually like to vape around 5v with a 3ohm xl boge carto in a dctank and I thought about just getting a fixed 5v device. BUT.. cartos change resistance as I use them.. some go up and some go down. Typically, they go up in resistance as they get older so I check the one I'm using every day on my provari and I can adjust the voltage to compensate when the resistance changes. Sometimes I like lower voltage and sometimes I want it higher. There's no guessing with the provari, you can set it at a certain voltage and that IS the voltage that I get. There are so many variables in vaping, so many things that can effect the quality of your vape.. but my provari takes most of the problems I ever had away. If I'm not getting a perfect vape, I know that it's because of something other than the device I'm using. I have other vv devices that I use and enjoy but if I had to have just one device, the provari would be it. Not only does it work as advertised, it is tough and durable and comes with excellent customer service. All devices can and will malfunction eventually. The peace of mind I get, knowing that if something goes wrong, Provape will quickly fix my problem and get it back to me. It comes with a 1 year warranty and a 2 year warranty can be purchased for $25. Many people think that it is expensive and yes, it can be a major expense. But relatively speaking, for what it does, how it's built, the peace of mind that it gives.. it's cheap IMO.

Don't be scared off by the one button menu system, it's simple and easy to use. I can change resistance while driving without looking at it and not having to use a multimeter or a voltmeter to set it is extremely convenient. The Provari is not full of useless functions.. I use all of them.. voltage up and down.. power on and off.. check battery life.. check atty/carto ohms and led light on or off.

The Buzz Pro, sold by Notcigs.com is another good, reliable device with good customer service. It's a little cheaper and some people prefer the dial over a readout. I'm a numbers person and like to see what is going on.. either way is fine and neither way is wrong. The Ego twist is also a good, very inexpensive vv device. It has a dial on the bottom that you can turn the voltage up and down with markings to tell you what voltage you are setting. I keep considering getting one or two but then I'd have to get new (slimmer) tanks and some 2ohm cartos and have decided not to spend the extra cash when I already have several nice devices and setups that satisfy me. (but I've found that just because I decide not to doesn't mean I won't LOL)

With the Provari or the Buzz, you can get a full day of vaping with one batt, or set of batts. Carto tanks have taken away the neccesity of dripping every couple of minutes or topping of cartos every half hour. I use a hammer and long, sharp screw to punch one large hole in my boge cartos, condom fill it (check the resistance to make sure it's not a dud and to see where I need to set my voltage), put it in a tank, fill the tank and vape all day. There's no mess and no fiddling. Pbusardo is a reviewer that I watch and you can go to his site to see the products he reviews and how they work. Vaping has come a long way in the 2 years I've been doing it. :)

Welcome back and I bet you are blown away with all the new stuff! It is so much fun :) I too recommend the Provari, I have one and love it. Also if you haven't tried tanks, that is another option, use with a punched carto. If you want a great sale, High Desert Ecigs today until 1:16 pm mountain time, if you buy 2 hand blown glass tanks, you get one free of equal value. I could not resist, this is a fabulous deal on pyrex hand blown tanks. I use these on my Provari.

Actually I know a bit how you feel, I started vaping a couple years ago with the mini ecigs, no cartos back then, battery would last about 10 puffs then dead, and I gave up! LOL Came back to vaping last year this same time in June and WOW! I was blown away. So many new fun toys!!! LOL bnrk

So many choices and so little time
The reality is that there are an abundance of good choices, and the one that is the catsass to one is someone elses complete waste of money. No different than I would't have given you a dime for a truck load of Marlboros, yet so many others loved them.
I love my VV and VW APV's, but then again there is nothing as relaxing as kicking back with a nice 3.7v pipe mod in the evening. So in my mind at least the best PV on the planet is 'more than one'.

The BEST, straight 5 volt PV is definitely the 5 volt GLV2. It's built as sturdy as a tank and comes with a lifetime warranty. It has a legion of fans. The suggestions of a good variable watt or volt model are also good. If you go that route, I would suggest the power regulated, variable watt, Darwin. Here is were to look at the 5 volt GLV2:

    GLV-2 Electronic Cigarette [GLV-2] - $120.00 : Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor

GLV's are great! I have a Mini that I still use, for fixed v's they are great. bnrk

A budget number would be nice here. Lots of Provari fans but, it's nothing more than a well made PV with lots of bells and whistles. If you're willing to pay for that, get one. If you want to pay less for the same or better performance, that's available too.

Right now there are some relatively new lower cost PVs like the Lavatube and the ego twist. More seem to be showing up everyday. Also a lot depends on what you intend to put on it. You can't take a 1.5 ohm DC (Dual Coil) to 5V on even a Provari. There are mods that can handle it though.

So, an idea of what you are prepared to spend and how you want to be able to use it will help with the recommendations.

Or you could realize youre not gonna use HALF the features on a Provari and save 150 on a BUZZ PRO that is just as good just doesn't have flashing lights (oooo ahhh)
it's all subjective don't let the Provari crowd claim they are any better than anything else just because they spent a ton of money

Nothing wrong with the Buzz Pro, I own a couple but, really a SmokeTek Varicool performs just as well for less than half the price. If you don't care about battery life, a Madvapes VV Box is the best performer out there at $35. If the OP wants to stay in the 2 to 3 ohm resistance range, there are lots of things that will work well.

On the safety front, the buzz pros have a lot of good features - current limited, over temp, symmetric vent holes, delrin threaded end cap will pop on over pressure. Notcigs also came out with a buzz pro II, which added large, symmetric, vent slots above and beyond the vent holes.

Then there are some really nice feeders. Notcigs has the vvpv top feeder, excellent flavor comes through. REOS Mods has the bottom feed VV Woodvil, with the metal VV Grand due next week, using the notcigs Pro circuitry. RedSkyMods has beautiful wooden mods, both bottom feed and carto tank, both fixed voltage and vv.

    Decisions, decisions... :)

I love my Provari as well as my Silver Bullet with a Kicked in it from Evolve and would easily recommend either the Provari or any good 18650 mod with a Kicked added to it. However the eGo Twist has a lot to be said for it as well. Many folks are using them now and with them available as low as about $20 shipped it is a great way to get a few VV devices for a low price.
