So, I've been seriously vaping for a month. Stinkies are for the most part a thing of the past. Wife and kids totally support vaping, vice smoking. That means my vape funds increased. Which put me on the great gear chase I'm sure you all know.

I started on a cig-alike, moved on to an i30W with Nautilus, and now I have a Coolfire IV with an ISub tank. I use them all.

What I did Wrong
Upgrading too fast and not understanding the differences well enough. Hitting 12mg Nic in a subohm tank at 25W almost put me on the floor, but damn, did it taste good.

"Ooo Shiny" Disease. I want that mod because it looks cool. Yeah, I got lucky, I can use the CoolFire for just about everything. But I already had two i30W's.

What I Did Right
I stopped what I was doing and started reading here about subohming, and not subohming. That each has it's place. Have a daily driver, a bedside setup, and a nice sub adventure after dinner...as dessert so to speak.

Stop buying anything but juice and consumables. I don't have the patience to do coils. Its not going to happen. My day job is bad enough with tedious electronical stuff.

Mix Juices that make sense. I figured, what could go wrong? So I mixed some arctic ice (mentholly) with some Carolina smooth tobacco. And I got what I think is damned close to a Newport cigarette! Some ideas are just bad, so don't mix licorice and chocolate.

Subohming is a great next step to chasing the perfect vape for me, but I'm not sure if I dived in too fast. I figure if I keep reading all the wisdom here, it'll be ok.

JUST NOT BUYING ANYMORE GEAR. I hope. Maybe. We'll see on payday. :)

Congrats on your journey navydavy. Shineyitis afflicts us all. I even lie to myself and say I'll not buy anymore...then I do. No matter what you spend, it's not going up in smoke (rationalization makes it easier to lie to myself and therefore buy what I want occasionally) . Good luck in your vape journey.

Just an FYI regarding your iSub tank.

The polycarbonate tank CAN crack/melt. I've only heard about this happening from one person (reviewer Mike Vapes). He talked about it and showed the tank in one of his reviews (or on The Vape Team) in the past couple of weeks.

Here is a great resource regarding "tank cracking" eliquid by @Baditude: Something Safe for Cinnamon and Citrus Flavors

That is an awesome resource! Thank you!

When I bought it, the talented and awesomely tattooed vape technician mentioned that too, and showed me how all the juices they sell have some labeled as "tank crackers" Thought that was pretty awesome.

Wise beyond his vape-age this one is.

But no wiser than the rest of us.

What I Did Right

I would add that in your words, making "stinkies a thing of the past," is at the top of the "What I did right" list. Congratulations, welcome, and all the best in your days ahead.

I tell myself that I'm not going to buy any more mods every time after I receive a new one in vapemail......until I see another one that interests me. Like when I received my Snow Wolf, I said that's it.....I have 4 TC mods and 2 non-TC mods. Don't need any more. Then I saw a Sigelei 75W TC mod over the weekend. Placed an order for one last night.

Thanks for this thread.

I started with a free kit given to me and wasn't as happy as I knew I could be. I went back to stinkies and was pretty disappointed in myself. Now I have the Kanger starter kit and love it but after taking a hit off a triton yesterday that was running at 70W I realized it had everything I wanted, great flavor and a huge cloud. I hope that will be my one and only upgrade path for a while. Good lessons in your post, thanks again.

I must be one of the lucky few. I used to like shiny things but then I spent some time in the military where owning anything reflective is the greatest sin on Earth. So whenever I see a really "nice" chromed out mod with laser engraving and all that good stuff I'm just like: "Who would buy something so bright and obvious?" Luckily they make good looking mods in black and olive drab or else I never would've stuck with vaping lol

Ok, I think it's funny how our backgrounds play a part. I totally get your reasoning. (I know a fair amount of operators who are the same way.) But being navy, shiny and reflective is what saves your ... when you fall overboard at night. LOL. More than likely it wont matter, they wont find you. Or a shark will.

Now I want to get a tube mod and just wrap it in a glow belt for nostalgia's sake and that'll be the one I take with me when I head out to the water with the family lol
