Was tooting on the Silver Bullet and needed to change the battery. Took off the head unit, took off the Kick, dropped in a fresh charged 18500, dropped in the kick....

a spark...

a wee puff of smoke...8-o

the smell of fried electronics...:-x

My Kick is dead...:censored:

Will get another on the way asap but what a loss...The SB just isn't the same without it...

Curious about more details:

Exactly at what point during the battery exchange did you notice the sparks?

What, if anything, was loaded on top of the Silver Bullet? I know Grimm Greene fried his with a Vivi Nova on top.

What condition is the battery in question? Did it vent gas or get hot? Were you able to check the voltage on a meter?

Is the Silver Bullet still functioning normally with a normal 3.7v battery? Reportedly it vents thru the button when needed, which can fry its parts.

So it was just a short that only fried your Kick. Sorry for your loss. I guess you live and learn that these devices can be extremely powerful. I guess in a way you were lucky nothing worse happened.

Be safe and vape on. :vapor:

Addon edit: I had some interest in you unfortunate experience because I witnessed the immediate afteraffects of a battery venting in my BB. Long story short, I had tossed the BB into a cargo pants pocket in my locker at work. I take a couple of toots when I get on a break, and when I reached into the pocket, the BB was too hot to touch. I was able to remove the mod from the pocket and get it cooled down. What had happened is the power switch became compressed for too long and caused the battery to short out into thermal runaway. The BB had done what it was designed to do, and vented the hot gasses from the power switch and hot spring collapsed. This incident is what grabbed my full attention as to battery safety.

The SB is fine...this was entirely my fault...I dropped the 18500 in upside down. Meant to put that in the OP...was upset at my loss I guess...

It sparked the instant the spring touched the tube wall...didn't have the head on it yet...

Does the Kick not have reverse polarity protection?

It's good you clarified, don't want to turn off folks interested in the kick.

Sorry for your loss btw.

I've seen the SWADJ regulator toasted too from batts being backwards. At least you caught it when it happened and know why. It's the not knowing that always drives me crazy. Gonna pay more attention when changing batts on my Kick from now on. I didn't know it would smoke it instantly. Thanks for the PSA.

What kind of battery was it you were using? I'm not sure it would make a difference, but I am shocked that it melted down that fast. I would think it would have to be activated first.

When I bought My Kick the only way it was available was in the kit with 2 batteries...it was one of those that I was using when I fried it.
