OK, first - when I opened the cartomizers and took off the rubber caps, all of the "smooth sample" cartomizers smelled very very similar. Then I started vaping - first with the auto battery, then a second round with the manual.
(Maybe it's because I'm new to this, but if I took a 5 second draw on this, I would cough my head off. lol. My draws average 3 seconds on the auto battery and 2 seconds on the manual, and that is plenty of vapor from my Volt. The manual produces vapor instantly - it's amazing!

Freeedom - strong, sweet smelling scent - when vaped kind of tastes like it smells. I can smell and taste a couple different flabors, but can't identify them, and neither can my fiance who could smell it while sitting next to me. It's a lighter version of whatever we smell when we sniff the carto. With auto battery and with manual - same taste. First and second round - same basic impression. Can't say like or dislike at this point.

Cowboy - a lighter version of the same taste and scent as Freedom. More pleasant than Freedom, but can't say why. I't still - ummmm - similar to Freedom - still can't really identify what it is I'm tasting. This one is OK but I'm not sure it will keep me from the analogs.

Desert Joe - the carto smells like the Freedom, but even stronger. However, it is more pleasant to vape, both on the auto and manual. Strangely, either this carto produces more vapor or this flavor requires a shorter draw to give the same effect. A 1-1/2 second draw is plenty for me and I'm a 2-pack/day smoker. This one is nice - I could vape this often. Funny - it smells so similar to the others when not vaping (just smelling the cartomizer) but the taste sits better on the tongue.

555 - Hmmmm - very strong scent from the carto before puting it on the battery - the same scent as Desert Joe + peanuts or peanutbutter. When I vape it, it's quite peanutty - it's ok, but I'm not sure I could do it all day. We'll see, because I have a 30ml bottle I got with my kit. I wanted RY4 but they were out. 2nd choice - Desert Joe - also out. Customer Service guy found that they had 555 in the 12mg that I wanted, so I had him send that.

RY4 - nicer than 555 or Desert Joe because of the caramel taste. The caramel is very nice and dominant in this one. The caramel mutes that other flavor that I taste to some extent, and smell in all of them. Between RY4, Desert Joe, and 555, I'm set for a few days.

I'm wondering if what I'm smelling is the tobacco that hasn't been burnt. I have no clue! Most cigarettes have licorice added to them, including all the brands I have smoked in the last few years. This scent and taste in the smooth sampler is NOT the licorice I can smell in unsmoked cigarettes. I just can't say what it is. I'm not sure I want to smell it all the time. I could smell it on my hands - big time - and eventually had to wash my hands - the scent is too strong and almost cloying. (funny - I've never used that word - but it fits) It's ok for a while - then you have to get away from it.

I put the cartos across the room for a while to avoid the scent while I'm not vaping.

All in all, my first vaping experience is very positive. At this point, maybe because my lungs are not in the greatest shape - I don't have to draw very much to be satisfied. The taste of my test cartos are tolerable to pretty good.

I'm taking a break to relax and reboot my nose and taste buds.

BTW - I haven't had an analog for 2 hours and 10 minutes - a record when at home.(unless I'm sleeping, lol) However, my brain told me to reach for them several times. I need to move them into another room, so it's not so automatic.

So - what do you think?

It's been a couple more hours. I've been vaping Cowboy on the autobattery. A pull on it about every 5 or 10 minutes. It tastes fine.

I had one cigarette at about 2:45. I couldn't taste anything, but it did clear my palette. Now everything smells and tastes better, not the cigarette, everything else!

Since then, every time I think about a cigarette, I take a little taste of my ecig. Amazing!!!!!! I'm really digging this!!!!!!

I found the best way to sample the flavors is stick with one only for a whole day. What is good to start out with may end up being nasty to you at the end of the day. and Visa Versa. It will give each flavor a fair chance.

Freedom was the only one I couldn't do this with. Sorry SI, but to me Freedom smelled and tasted worse than my 11 year olds feet after football practice. LOL I tried it and I just couldn't do it.

Thanks for the advice, Stacey. After trying each of the flavors for just a few puffs, I realized that wasn't working. I've been using the Cowboy since then. I also had the strong scent of the cartos on my hands from removing the rubber caps. I washed my hands to get rid of that constant scent.

I'm doing ok with the Cowboy, but it probably won't end up being an all day vape. Some people in ECF are so good at describing what they smell and taste. I really can't describe it well. It's not a negative scent and taste, just not something I want to smell and taste all the time.

I'm going to wait until tomorrow to try the next flavor, like you advised.

By the way, It has been more than 7 hours since I started my first vape. I've only had 3 cigarettes. Since I'm a 2 pack-a-day smoker, I'm happy with that.

Thanks again, everyone, for your advice.

Congrats on the no smoking!! One hour at a time!! One hour will turn into one day and one day into two, etc. I found that using the banner in my signature from SI, encourages me to make it to the next day. It sounds silly, but it helps me.) Just hard to believe it has been 50 days since my last cig. That is totally awesome for me!!!!!!!!!

Wow, Stacey!!! 50 days is awesome!!!!! Sounds like you need a new order of flavors to celebrate!!

I tried going cold turkey once. I gained 15 lbs in 3 weeks and I was a total shrew!! My friends put me into their car, drove me to the store, and bought me a carton of cigarettes. They couldn't stand me!! LMAO!

The fact that you have gone 50 days is beyond my own imagination! I can only hope!

Congrats!

There are some flavors that have a very strong scent. 555 is one and I'm guessing Freedom must be another. So anything nearby is going to smell like those. The nut in 555 is hazelnut, it is my favorite. What strength of nicotine did you get?

Nothing ever worked for me when trying to quit until I got an e-cig. Even then it took a few weeks before I put the smokes away for good. Just take baby steps, don't put pressure on yourself, and you may find you like the taste of the ecig better than the cigs and reach for them more often than not. I smoked for almost 40 years, and now I'm 1 year and 2 months smoke-free :)

Hi Retired! Congrats on your new "habit" and may it replace your old habit permanently. :)

As for the smells...I had the sample pack too and the smell of all of them together was really bad. You may want to try separating them. That should help.

I made the mistake of constantly swapping out cartos of the different flavors. I couldn't really get a good reading on which tasted better because it messed up my taste buds. lol I'd go with one flavor a day if I had it to do all over again.

I can't tell you how many times I have tried to quit cold turkey. LOL never made it 3 weeks before my family was bringing me cigs by the cartons. lol This has been sooooooo easy. I don't know if its because I was just really ready to quit or because I am truly happy with vaping. Maybe a little a both. But it doesn't matter, I am not smoking!!) You will make it too.

You are all so great!

Stacey, it sounds like you had the same reaction to "cold turkey" as I did. I'm surprised I had any friends left after those tries.

I bought two 12 mg. smooth sample packs and a 30ml. 12mg bottle of 555. I really wanted RY4, but was out of stock in everything except in think 6mg. and 0mg. I hadn't tasted anything, so I was kind of going by the preferences of others in this and the main forum.

I love my little USB charger. I have it plugged into my 1.5 amp wall charger.

I have used the auto battery mostly, but it's charging now. The manual is wonderful. I need to get used to the instant vapor. Since it's so quick to heat up the juice, I tend to draw too much vapor, too quickly. I think I'm getting better at it though.
My next thing to try is the USB Passthrough. If I like it, I plan to use it the most, at home, to save on my battery life. Does that make sense?

Finally, I am amazed that one carto and one battery lasted me from noon until 10:30 last night - and I only had 5 regular cigarettes in that same time period.

Thanks again for all of your support!
