"Dear Mrs. Christina7 (ok, I changed the name a bit)

Thank you for your email to my office regarding electronic cigarettes and how important they are to you in your battle to stop smoking conventional cigarettes. I quit smoking many years ago, and I know how difficult it is to break that habit.

To be perfectly candid, I had not really heard very much about electronic cigarettes until this year, when the State Assembly passed a proposal (A.9529/S.7234) to curtail their availablitity in New York. I have subsequently heard from several constituents about how important and helpful this product is to them.

As you may know, the legislation has not been taken up in the Senate and is still uner review by the Senate Committee on Health. In addition, the 2010 Legislative Session has concluded for the year. Please be assured that should this proposal come befor me for a vote in 2011, I will be mindful of the good points you have raised in opposition to it.

Thanks, again, for contacting me. Best regards.

Cordially,
Hugh T. Farley

I know....he wants my vote. but its something?

I get genuine letters back from congressmen all the time. Maybe thats why they never have a problem getting re-elected. One of our senators was in a race with 4 contestants and won 70% of the vote.

Of course, I do on occasion get letters back written by a staffer (I can tell the difference) and on occasion I get form letters. If I reply back voicing my dis-approval at the form letter I will get a personalized letter in what I consider a fair amount of time. It did take almost 2 weeks to get a letter back while they were debating the health care bill though.

Good job on taking part in our system of government though. Those we elect to represent us can not do so if they don't know whats on our mind...
