ok, the REO does indeed seems to have a bigger voltage drop than the tube style mechanical mods

I put a .4 ohm coil on my RM2 and with a fresh Sony 30A battery was getting 3.34 Volts

being the modder / tweaker I am, I decided to mod it for better performance

this is the first part, got a brass pin, about 3 / 3.5 mm in diameter

Remove the negative spring

Drilled a hole and fit the pin with washer & nut:

Checked my coil:

placed on REO & measured on fresh battery:

That's a sweet, sweet 3.69^2 / .4 = 34 watts!

For part 2 of the modding, I'm going to have the positive bar / contact (what we push with the button) made out of pure silver or gold this weekend (if time allows)

Will update, I'm sure this puppy can get to 3.8 / 3.9 Volts with the proper materials / contacts

Don't get me wrong, as it's the REO has been working beautifully for me for coils as low as .6 / .7 ohms

but below .5 ohm there are a few improvements to be made (and that we can make!)

Hey Rob

I have been using a MKB-TS without spring for most of the year without a problem, I only use high amp IMR batteries

Aren't IMR safe chemistry? these are not supposed to explode, at most melt / get really hot

that's my understanding

I'll add a fuse to it and be happy with it!
Even imr batteries can vent . Fuses are great but a spring is the only protection I trust . Your on your own on this one I would not use a mod without a spring

dully noted Rob

In any case this will soon be used with a Kick 2

of all my mods and all the crazy stuff I've done with them I have yet to have any problem beyond a Panasonic battery getting warm when I shorted the RDA that was building on top

regarding the venting, the Reo has a big a vent hole as anything out there!!!

but I understand your concern and appreciated your input, I know this is one I go on my own

Is the kick2 also a fuse of sorts?

I hope it all goes well, and makes you happy :) If no one tried to be different we wouldn't have a lot of what we have.

I am just looking out for you my friend . Yes my mods are vented and can handle a venting battery I have seen it first hand . I dont think I would want to be the test subject regardless .

This whole thread made me sad :(

I sooner chop up my car than I would a REO ......... I'm all for fun and modding but that REO looks so sad. I have a nearly 3y old Grand that looks like new, and thats how I keep them, stock and clean.

To each his own. You can see that reo has been used and enjoyed.

I like pretty also, but it is still a tool. I'll buy another if I simply isn't pretty enough anymore.
