I have been using a Joye 510 but a few days ago I bought a Riva 901, mostly because of the bigger battery.
It arrived yesterday and I followed the battery instruction to the letter (I went so far as tto set an alarm). I placed the first battery in the charger, waited 8 hours, used it for 20 minutes, charged for another hour or so (I forgot how long) and then while I was enjoying the first Riva, I placed the second in the charger and started all over again.

That was yesterday and I have been vaping the first Riva since last night. Sometimes this morning (I was actually car racing online and vaping so I am not sure of the time - but it was a long race) the first Riva discharged so I started using the second one and placed the first on the charger.

After about 3 or 4 hours, the second one goes dead too (a bit too soon I thought) so I pick up the first one, I screw it in and... it's dead. Nothing.

I wait about an hour (while using my 510) and I figure the time is right for the other battery and... it's dead too.

I checked the charger, it is on and strangely the light is green even when I screw in the dead batteries.
But I checked with a voltmeter and it delivers 4.5V so as far as I know, it is right.

I should have a pass-through coming soon for my 501, but I was so happy to get the Riva because I am constantly exchanging batteries on my Joye. And I loved the Riva, I was thrilled.

Anyway, since I have pretty much excluded the charger, is it possible that 2 batteries broke after 1 charge? It makes no sense to me, but I cannot fathom what could be wrong. After all, it's a simple device. I use rechargeable batteries all the time.

There is anotehr unrelated thing I wanted to ask. With my 501, sometimes I place a battery on the charger and several hours later it has no charge. Yet, if I sit it again the next time works. maybe that happened twice with my Riva? I have no explanation for the other behavior either, but at least that one is only once in a while.

Thanks for answering, no I am not using the same charger. The Riva came with its own charger and the two have opposite male/female screws anyway so even if I wanted to I couldn't.

The charger as far as I can tell is putting out 4.5 Volts exactly. I just looked at the charger's back and it say 4.5V output. However, the light being green all the time is not right. It should be red when I attach a discharged battery. In my joye is green when empty, red when I attach a spent battery and green again when the battery is charged. The Riva doesn't change at all but since it is USB powered it may have a shutoff that is either not working or on all the time. Maybe when I attach the battery it stops delivering juice. There is no way to test it when it's working but I could take it apart and see if I can hard wire it..

Hello,
Sometimes the center pin gets pushed down too far to make contact. If you take a pair of tweezers and wiggle the post gently up a little and see if that helps. Don't pull too hard tho. And still contact Abe from LF....they are a good company and will replace it if you ask...Don't think they work weekends tho.
btw welcome.
:)
sas

edit. And only screw the battery on the charger until the light changes...over-tightening can push the pins down

I just opened the charger and I made a tiny ball of aluminum foil. I placed it on the screw in the middle and it's still not working. I think this is a different problem than the screw recessing in the battery I think this is the charger chip that does not deliver juice to teh battery because it sees it "charged" somehow (How else could it change the light from red to green?).

No, it never shows red, that's the problem. It's not the screw recessed, it's the charger that either "understands" the battery is already charged or it has fried the batteries as well. and now the whole thing is bust.

In your case, did they replace the charger and all was well?

I am a bit leery of having them send me anotehr charger only to discover irt was the batteries that failed. There is power at the charger, of that I am sure. I don;t know if the power is cut off once the battery is screwed in or not.

I only charge it from the wall, I figure it's faster. However I did try it on the PC and it doesn't charge there either.

I am really concerned that it may not be the charger and that 2 batteries failed on me after all. But I hope not.

Fortunately, I have my 510 but it's not nearly as good as the Riva was (when it worked). I just quit cigarettes a week ago. The very day the joye showed up. But I knew that it's so underpowered that if I didn't do something my next trip to the store I was going to get a pack of Camels.

I was thrilled with the RIva.
I have about 5 friends waiting on my experience to purchase their own and I already told them about the Riva. Now I had to email them and tell them to put it on hold. I don;t want to risk that something silly like this is going to prevent even just one of them from quitting.
