hello, echo users....just tried my first e-cig from Eco-cigarettes ... Gas station purchase. it inspired me to research and I now know that there's lots more out there and what I have is probably a pale imitation of what could be. Read the Echo thread and it seems like a way I may want to go. but I need some spoon-feeding if possible. I've managed to retain a bunch of random information in the last week and have no clue how it all connects.
Which to buy - 650 or 1300?
Low resistance cartomizers? relevant to this product?
Need a link to the perfect starter kit?
I need to put something in the darn thing, right? Are there sample kits that are pre filled cartomizers or do I need to learn this DIY filling method right now if I want to use the echo?
Need recommendations for something approximating camel menthol for a pack a day smoker. Though I also am willing to try other things.. Maybe as part of a sample kit.
How much eliquid to buy at first?
I saw mention of battery issues in the echo thread, nine hour charge time. Then there was talk of an upgraded echo and I don't know if the problem went away. I read about 20 pages of the thread, but can only do this on the bus on the way to work and I can't keep up with the traffic on this forum, it keeps building more and more threads every day and I just want to do SOMETHING instead of trying to keep up with the reading.
Please, I want to pull the trigger. Help me do it!!

Hi kren and Welcome to ECF! It's exciting to find an alternative to cigs that actually works I have had an Echo 1300 (808 threaded) for about a month now and have been very happy with it. I also have a KGO which is similar, with a manual battery (510 threaded). I use them about equally and so far no complaints and would recommend either one. There is also the E-Power 14650 (Hoosier) which also seems a good device, which I would seriously consider if I were buying anew. If you do get an Echo (808 threaded) be sure to get 1 or 2 battery adapters to fit 510 threaded cartomizers. There is an Echo with 510 threading and is the Echo-E version. All of these are 'big-battery' style and will work with the Low Resistance (LR) cartos. I have found the Boge 2.0 LRs to work well for me, but need to be topped off with juice often. So far I have found the Boge cartos (standard and LR) to work better than the other brands I have tried. So get 2 or 3 packs of cartos and as many sampler packs of juice as you can. What I just got yesterday and I think will be my main carto for a good while is this clear tank-type carto. Unfortunately, that carto sold out very quickly. I know of 3 vendors that carry that style: MountainVapor linked above, gotvapes.com, and litecigusa.net . I would definitely recommend that carto. Cheers and Best Wishes! Which to buy - 650 or 1300?

I would highly recommend a 1300 battery. I almost went with a 650 myself, but they were sold out when I was ordering. I'm very happy that I went with the bigger one in the end. It's definitely not as big as I thought it would be and a charge will last me almost two days at my vape pace.

The Echo is an 808 device, so you can use any 808 cartomizer which you like. You can certainly use a low res one since you'll have either a 650 or 1300 mAH battery @ 4.2-3.7 volts. The mega cartos that come with the Echo starter kit are not low res, although there is a dual coil version that most people seem to prefer.

There's an Echo kit on sale over at Smoketek. It looks to be the best deal at the moment. It's $38.95 and comes with two batteries, a wall and usb charger and two Echo cartomizers. I would also make sure to get some extra cartos if it's within your budget. A box of dual coil Echomizers to try and a box of any type of normal 808 cartomizer to test juices on. You don't want to fill up a 3mL carto and then decide you don't like the juice!

Echo cartomizers DO NOT come prefilled which is probably a little annoying for beginners. You can always pick up other 808 cartos that are prefilled, but filling your own is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Echo cartomizers are huge, so the best way to fill them is with a syringe. All you do is fill up your syringe, stick it down between the stuffing and the metal edge of the carto until you hit the bottom and squeeze making sure to evenly fill from each side.

I'm a huge fan of Backwoods Brew as I think they have the best tobacco flavors. Casablanca is their Turkish type tobacco flavor. They don't have a sample pack though, which is a good idea if you're just starting out. You could try The Vapor Room. They have some nice sales for first time buyers and offer a sampler. I would suggest getting a few juices that are out of your comfort zone at first. I thought I would hate anything other than tobacco and got a free sample of Waffle because I thought it sounded hilarious. It turned out to be one of my favorite flavors!

You can never go wrong with too much juice. Just try not to buy huge bottles of one flavor until you've tried it. I made this mistake at first and was stuck with huge bottles of stuff I hated. Order samples or 15mL of one flavor and if you like it, then go back and get a huge bottle!

I would say nine hours is probably about right. That is the only thing that annoyed me about Echo at first, but now I charge one while I sleep and it's fresh by morning. Since the 1300 battery will last me two days and I have two of them, I never really worry about the charge time myself. YMMV though and perhaps someone else can chime in on this issue!


If there's anything confusing in my answers, I can totally clarify. When I was looking to buy my first device, I was absolutely dumbfounded by all the jargon that goes with e-cigs. Just take your time and buy whatever you think will keep you off those nasty ciggies!

Quick follow-up question on e-liquid. At the Vapor Room, the pulldown menu wants to know my PG/VG ratios. I have no clue. Suggestions?

For cartomizers, I'd recommend 70%pg 30%vg to 80/20. Pg delivers better flavor and throat hit but can be a little harsh. VG produces a thicker fullnness of vapor and smooths out the juice but it's thick and cam make filling it up the first time hard as well as gunking up your cartomizer quicker. It's a good blend of the two that you can tweak and adjust as you see fit in the future.

I have an echo-e and really like it a lot. 4.2 volts 1300 mah battery- best battery by far that I've ever owned.

If you happen to like the echo cartomizers, the are made to be cleaned and reused 100X (supposedly). There's an echo or a GoGo thread that tells you how to clean them.

They don't get a lot of play on this board for some reason but for value it's a great pv.

I purchased mine from Bill in the suppliers section. Not sure if he still has any left. He hasn't been doing much selling due to illness. Cropduster carries the echo (KR808).

seems everyone has gotten a rush on these. I know Smok Tek has a few echo kits and I believe Sterling Vapor has them too and in the rare 1100mah size option. Last I was there, you couldn't select size from the ordering page. Probably a quick email or maybe they are running out too.

You might want to get a drip tip to see if you like it, as compared to the flat whistle tip. I think that would be 801 size to fit the Echo, not certain though. Be sure to drink extra water- vaping is dehydrating. Oh, did I mention- drink extra water, especially if you vape a lot. Cheers!

I can't tell from your post. Did you order 2 kits. one 1300 qnd one 650?

If you don't like the rubber tips on the cartomizers, vapor king sells 801 tips that fit well for the best price I have seen. Electronic cigarette drip tips for 801 style atomizers
Not all 801 tips are a perfect fit but SaraBee recommends these highly.

You may want to get yourself a 901 atomizer (or a 510 with a 510 to 808 adapter) to test flavors before committing them to a 3ml cartomizer. Pick up a few if you are going to be tasting so many juices at once. An atomizer lets you drip one drip at a time to taste juices. They come with primer fluid to keep them wet so you need to get the fluid off before testing juices and we will help with that too. See us on the echo thread and we will help with any questions when you get the kit.

It does look like you ordered the 1300. Good 3 day battery! If it's too large, the 650 is a good carry around battery and it does not hurt to have a spare.

I love my Echo gear, I have 650's and 1300's. I find I use the 650's more, I just like the size and I prefer the single coil cartos over the dual coil, to me they give a similar vape as the dual coils and they last longer. The only other advice I will give you is get yourself a couple of 801 drip tips, they whistle tips that come with the cartos aren't much good. Enjoy your new gear.

Looks like my kit comes with two batteries so I think I'm good to go there. Emailed rob at smoke-tek to see if he sells 901 atomizers; may as well combine and cut down on shipping...

FWIW, he has a "make an offer" button on his site, so I offered him $32.95 for the kit and he accepted (then the $4 extra for the 1300 was added) ... Ended up at $36.95 ... Just FYI for anyone else out there considering where to buy...

PM me when you get your kit. I have 2 650mahs but I only need one. The only time it gets used is when I'm doing physical stuff that I don't want the 1100 for. Since I use the 1100s more I think I would be better with one smaller and one larger for those times when I may want a 2-3 day battery. All my echos are in black. I've been thinking of putting one of my 650s up on the swap sheets but I'll wait until you get your kit to see if you want it.
