I know I vape much more than I smoked, in the sense of going less time without. I smoked, at peak, about 1.5 PAD. I rarely go 15 minutes without picking up my PV. But since I don't usually take a dozen or so drags in a few minutes, as I (and most anyone) would with a cigarette, I don't know how it adds up that way. I've never tried to count. The "rhythm" of it is just different for me.

BTW, as one who often had to endure frequent long intervals (3+ hours) without smoking, I've long thought that the stress of withdrawal has its own damaging effects. If true, maybe the ability not to have to go without so long and so often is sort of a health benefit. (Now there's a study that will likely never be performed.)

As far as the increasing my nicotine intake goes...I say decrease it the only reason I vape so much is because I can do it anywhere, so you dont have to worry about that. my plan is every time I buy a new thing of e-fluid is to decrease the nicotine content till it hits zero. which was the whole reason I bought my e-cig, I love to smoke but hate the health problems that come with it, so I decided that hey I can still smoke with e-cigs and step down my nicotine intake till zero...best thing ever!

If you're worried about it being a long term effect on your life, my experience is after a few months I don't vape and vape and vape like I did when I started. When I go down from 18 to 12 I vape more, but still only a few times an hour, or sometimes not for hours.

I think you'll find the cravings will lose intensity over time, so I think for now, just enjoy it without guilt.

I have also found that a cigar-style inhale, hold in the mouth, slowly exhale through the nose method seems to get the nic into my system more efficiently, so I don't need to vape as often.

There is a difference and I'm not sure that I actually do vape more. When I smoked there was an end point. I smoked a cigarette till it was done and then I did something else. Face it, with a cigarette you had till it burned up and it would do that whether you smoked it or not. With vaping there's no done and when you aren't using it nothing happens. So, while I might always vape, I'm not sure that I vape as much in that small amount of time as I did when I smoked.

I absolutely vape more than I smoked. That is because I vape inside my apartment, and I wouldn't smoke inside due to the stinkiness factor. I vape at my desk at work, and yet I always had to go outside to smoke when I was at work. Etc, etc.

The flavors are really the reason for me, though. This evening, I was at a farmer's market, walking around enjoying myself shopping, and it wasn't until I'd left and gotten in the car that I realized that I hadn't vaped significantly in a two hour period -- I think I had, total, five hits off one of my PVs, and that was shortly after I'd arrived. I simply forgot to vape, because I had alternatives to the yummy flavors, and my body was content with the nicotine level I had, and so I plumb forgot. It's taken a little while to get to that point, but my best advice is vape when you want when you start, listen to your body, adjust your nicotine level freely (by keeping some higher-nicotine liquids and some lower to no nicotine liquids on hand), and let time settle you out. By comparison to when I started vaping, I've barely vaped today -- at first, I was easily going through 4-5ml a day, and today, it's probably been more like 1-2ml.

When I smoked I smoked at least 2.5 PAD. Conservatively that's 3 per hour. Figure in the time to walk to/from and the actual smoking, I smoked pretty continuous. It's WORSE with vaping. It ain't pretty much continuous. . .it is continuous. On my days off I go through at least 15-30mL's. Only way I can afford that is to DIY. And, since none of this stuff has really been proven one way or the other. . .I've dropped the Flavor and the Nicotine out of my eLiquid. Means all I'm vaping most the time is a base, some ratio of PG/VG. And even this makes my nose drip. More with VG, so, cut VG back to 25%. At 50/50 it coats the inside of my car windshield really bad in a week. Better after cutting VG back. My eLiquid cost is out three decimals. That's less than 2 cents for 30 mL's. I buy PG/VG 7,680 mL's at a time. JMHO

Cheers,

My first day of vaping, I realized I was vaping a lot more than I was smoking. So I thought about regulating it to the time and cycle I was smoking. Took one day to realize, it is not the same as smoking so you can't do that.. I Vape when I feel the urge. Love it!
I find that the "urge" is waaay less intense than the 'crave'. I can take a couple of stealth toots with kids in the library and not get anywhere as stressed out as with analogs.

Just a bit confused about your comments... did you know the health problems that come with smoking are because of the smoke, not the nicotine?
