I've always demanded a certain level of illumination in a flashlight. It started when I began to go camping as a Boy Scout (many years ago). I had a double mantle propane lantern that allowed me to insert a new cylinder when others were pouring white gas into their Coleman lanterns and pump, pump, pumping up the pressure tank and fiddle with the mantle cleanout from time to time.
I carried a 6 volt sealed beam back then. It was heavy, but the brightest flashlight in the bunch with a large lens. These days I carry a 6AAA cell halogen flashlight sold at Sears. It's not an extremely bright flashlight at 170 lumens, but it can get 14 hours from 6 AAA alkalines on the low setting, which is barely less illumination than the high setting, and 8 hours on high. It's around $50 regular price and much cheaper at $35 on sale. The price has dropped since I bought mine. It's enough to flash the yard brightly and put a bright spot on anything, then slip back into a pocket.
Kelevra, what's your recommendation for the brightest, well made 18650 pocket sized flashlight under $100?
