Hey guys, received the Protege weeks ago and have had some bad luck with it so far (maybe its cursed or something, lol), so I thought you guys could might steer me in the right direction. I feel bad for harassing Casey anymore, god bless her, lol.

Anyway, after 5 days it stopped working, so I returned it and got it back the other day. Popped on the 510 atty and still nothing :( Casey recommended adjusting the adapter center post by tapping it with a nail and hammer, which I thought wouldn't do much, but dang it worked! SO then everything was going real groovy until all of sudden it stopped working again. Crap! So I do my tapping dance once again, still nothing. I put the atty on a regualar 510 batt, and ah ha its still not working, the atty's dead. To make a long story short Ive gone through 3 atty's already since last night:shock: The vapor starts off good, then steady goes down to nothing then to completley dead. Im juicing the heck of em the whole time and these are joye tech attys btw. Any ideas, or should I put this cursed Protege to rest....

I've never had a 510 atty go bad. Not even on the Prodigy @ 6v
I vape all day everyday, been using three or four in rotation for four months.

Somethings wrong. You shouldn't go through three that fast at 3.6 volts.

Where'd the attys come from?
Is the switch sticking and running the atty continously?
Are you holding the switch down for more than 10 - 15 seconds at a time?
Do they get red hot when you're vaping?

*If you want to get rid of the Protege feel free to PM or email me.*

It must be from taking such a long drag. I usually do a lung full (8-10 secs) each time. But since its a 3.7 device I didn't think it would be possible to kill an atty like this since Ive been doing that since I started using ecigs on regular batteries. And yes the atty gets red hot, but I let it cool down in between drags. These attys are direct from Joye btw, not one of the clones. I guess I need to change my esmoking habits, lol. Thanks for the input again Casey...was trying to give you a break but you must live on the computer dealing with this stuff, I hope Steve is compensating you well:lol:

Casey's a doll. She works hard for the $275k she earns monthly

Next time your in the mood for 510 attys try these. I've never ordered the Joye's. Don't know about them.
I'm not trying to cross promote but it's what I got when I started and they're still going strong. If they ever go bad I may try some from someone else but I've had really good luck with them. mine get to hot to touch for more than 5 seconds or so. They make the vapor nice and warm. Nice flavor.
I also like the 901's for flavor.. Little different but nice.

If you have used a real 510 you have used a Joye-510. They are the only producer of the real 510. TW is just a customer, like Dura and all the others. PS bulk ordering is cheaper and they are first run products. The TW multi-packs have no warranty and are marked MP so that they know if you try to get warranty service on them. I'm concerned that they are sub-standard products. There have been some complaints about them.

I have been using "real" joye510s for months. I personally cannot kill one at 4.2v. Not even doing repeated 15 second dry burns until I thought the battery or even my Protege would overheat and die.

Just got today some of the *other* 510 attys from Vapor Kings. They clearly state they are not joye's. Some have said they perform better so I though I'd give them a try. The look exactly like the pics that some people have gotten elsewhere (I think HG?) And no hairs sticking out from the wick. Hmm...

Haven't tried them long enough to say how well I like them, but they are bigger around, so I'll have to get some carts to fit. Or use 901 carts which fit perfectly, but I hate to do because one of the things I love about the 510 is the carts are great for keeping liquid out of your mouth.

Hate it when that happens.

I have a real hard time killing my 510's as well. I've even got a handful of "taste testers" which I use when I sample DIY liquids and they literally get 10-15 second dry burns over and over again during a session...not a single one has died yet. These are some serious work horses IMO. Not sure how some people have such bad luck with them, assuming they are true Joye attys...

Well like I said. I've never tried any other 510's only because these have never failed.
I'm new to the vape club and it was one of my first starter pack orders.

Maybe I need to get some of the PS 510's and givem a try... I can't imagine better but equal would suit me just fine.

Maybe when they release the stainless 510's and 901's :)

That's the problem I had with 3.7 volts.

Most people think that using low voltage will add to an atomizer's lifespan. Not always true..

My atomizers last longer with 5 volts, I too need lots of vapor. Lung hit is more important than throat hit for me.

3.7 volts= longer drag time and hotter vapor, overworks the atomizer.

5 volts= shorter drag time, and "cooler" vapor - less stress on the atomizer.
.
I usually got about a week off of an atomizer at 3.7 volts (using a 901).
With 5 volts and the 801, I get about two weeks or so.

For lung hits,,, I recommend using an 801.

However, your atty shouldn't be frying that fast.

My first impression with the Prodigy was that 5 volts was killing my attys because I lost 3 the first week (2 were old attys). But since then I have had no further problems for the past 3 weeks. I've even tried all my older attys and have had no issues at all with attys. I think I can conclude from this is that the ones that failed were weak already and would have failed eventually at 3.7 volts.

I have had real good luck restoring attys by soaking them in rubbing alcohol for several days.

Ouch Kevin, don't use rubbing alcohol its poisen.
I clean with pure grain it costs a little more but I don't have to worry about stuff like brain damage from the cleaner.

Ditto on the EverClear )

I'll soak for a couple of hours or whatever (no real set time frame) and then rinse them with super hot water. I use a Turkey injector and attache the attys to the end with a piece of tubing. I flush them with the everclear and then with hot water, let them sit to dry and bingo. They seem to perform just like new.
Forcing the alcohol and hot water through the attys seems to wash away and residual flavorings left behind from just the alcohol soak.

Cant add a pic with the new server.(

That's funny, we are talking about using liquid containing nicotine , a real poison, and we are wondering whether or not to use denatured alcohol to clean our attys. I use rubbing alcohol to clean my fingers after checking my blood sugsr. I use in on open wounds to kill germs. It is denatured alcohol which will make you sick, by design, if you drink it but it isn't poison.

I soak my attys in rubbing alcohol. When I take one out I wash them out under running hot water for several minutes. After they dry out I prime them with nic juice and put them back in service.
