I'm a young guy, 24 and my ears are pretty good. I can hear high frequencies like the ringing of a CRT television.

My Provari makes such a noise, from the chip whenever I press the button.

Can anyone else hear this from their device?

I saw a thread in a google search that it might be part of the circuit board known as the L7 chip that handles the amp limit. They didn't say it was anything adverse just that it occurs and it is audible.

and from Aussie Vapers (no idea whether it's against the rules to link them)

"The type of voltage converter used in the provari has an inductor (coil) in it and the noise is being electro-mechanicly generated in it. Normally the frequency these run at is well above what we humans can hear but perhaps under some conditions this drops into the audible range. I don't have one but perhaps Stoney could enlighten us further."

How odd!

I do know age has a factor. I have an insect repellent app on my phone and it drives the kids crazy with the high frequencies. I can't here a thing. (45yrs)

I have an App that does the Same Thing.

But mine is called a "Kid Rellent App". And it side effect is it drives Insects Crazy.

try cleaning your threads and see if it still does it... a dry toothbrush should do the trick.

I just wiped it off with a rag and it seemed to help a bit. It doesn't really bug me that much. If the chip just does it every so often and there's no adverse effect then I don't really care. I just want to make sure it won't eventually kill my Provari.

(...)

Yes sometimes, but only when using my only non-IMR 18650 battery (Ultrafire 3000mAh Li-ion, protected) and at voltages beyond 4.5V. With IMR batteries, nada.

It's probably worth mentioning that the ultrafire 18650 lasts very little at those voltages, so I probably shouldn't be using it anyway :)
