I hope others will join me in an apology for our POTUS's actions. I do hope our friends in the UK understand that obama does not represent the majority of American's. I am extremely thankful to your country and all the help and support the USA has received, not only for the war on terror, but in dealing with other country's and their threats against us.
The Prime Minister most certainly deserved a better welcome that was given from the POTUS as do you the people. I certainly hope you all understand that just because the POTUS is an arrogant idiot, that know in your heart, I as an American, appreciate you and your efforts.
I would encourage all to also write a letter to the British Embassy with your heart felt apologies.

I have just learned that POTUS is an endearing term, one of repect, I apologize for it's use in this threat. I meant no respect for obama.
Respect is earned.

Drive by news meida isn't letting it out, don't want to hurt obama's image.
The first insult to the Prime Minester was his gift. He received a set of 25 dvd's and some stupid pen holder, while giving obama two very expensive gifts...as is customary.
Secondly, after September 11th, Great Britian gave President Bush a beautiful bust of Winston Churchill signifying their condolences, obama gave it back. What the news isn't telling anyone is why he gave it back (what a ****), Churchill was responsible for obama's grandfathers death....(like I care). This man has been in office for 6 weeks and has already disrespected our greatest ally.
Go to Hot Air you will find enogh reading for an entire evening!!

Just ignore it, 2-cardis is not happy with the fact that Obama is the new president of the united states.
That's all

You are more than correct, but this has nothing to do with my political views. I feel we owe an apology. obama will never give one, so we as a people must step up and cover his .... Regardless of your political views, the US cannot fight the bad guys all by ourselves, and you don't make friends by giving the Prime Minister a set of dvd's...by giving a gift back...how retarted is this guy?? That is beyond arrogant.
We need our friends, we aren't going to keep them like this!

Now this is actually interesting:

"In return for a pen holder carved from the timbers of the sister ship of the one the White House desk is made from and a first edition of a seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill, the Mail is appalled that "Barack Obama, the leader of the world's richest country" gave Brown a box set of 25 DVDs selected by the American Film Institute. These, it says, include Raging Bull, Casablanca, Psycho and The Graduate. It is, the Mail says, "a gift about as exciting as a pair of socks".

I looked into this desk, the "Resolute Desk" as it's called.

"Many presidents have used the Resolute desk in the Oval Office or the their study in the Residence. It was made from the timbers of HMS Resolute, an abandoned British ship discovered by an American vessel and returned to the Queen of England as a token of friendship and goodwill. When the ship was retired, Queen Victoria commissioned the desk from William Evenden, Royal Naval Dockyard at Chatham, England, and presented to President Rutherford Hayes in 1880."

COOL!

Well personally, I'd much rather have the DVD set than a 7 volume  biography about anyone, and I actually enjoy reading biographies.

There were quite a few comments on the original Telegraph blog that inspired this one (linked in the article), many of which blamed Brown for the "cool" meeting, and a couple saying the language used seemed friendly enough and the blogger was over-reacting. Apparently the matter is not quite as clear cut as the bloggers are making out.
