Hi all,

New to ECF and the concept of vaping, though I have been trawling the forum incognito in an effort to understand what all the hoopla’s about :2cool:

I come from a family of smokers and worked out the other day that I’ve been smoking for 20 years…what the?!?!?! I’ve been smoking since the age of 15 (I honestly don’t count that small puff I took of daddy’s cig cause I wanted to be like him, not mentioning the age I was to avoid the gasps of horror) I smoke a little less than a pack a day and apart from a brief period when I stopped, to impress a guy no less, I am a committed smoker with a uncanny ability to ignore the ugly anti-smoking ads on TV and bear a striking resemblance to an ostrich when anyone mentions the ‘evils’ of smoking.

My partner has been talking about e-cigs for about 3 months now and I just haven’t been all that interested, who wants a fake cigarette when we have real ones?

Stay tuned for part 2

lol i was a pack a day plus smoker bouncing from camel wides to marlboro smooths one day i realized i had to make a change or my baby son wasnt going to have a dad very long so i went out and got a expensive mall kiosk e cig i switched over same day no problem i really wanted a change normally i have no self controll but in this instance i didnt need much it was a very easy transition and yes u could have a real one but thats not the way to look at it if u want to quit get an e cig ween urself off the nicotine or maybe u will be like me and decide u like waking up and vapeing its not a bad decision but it may not be for everyone but the main thing id like to stres dont knock it till u try it and be sure to try i quality one when and if u do because low quality garbage models will turn u off the idea for good for a first time vaper

just to re-iterate this this my story to how I got to where I am now...all the doubting thomas stuff and nay saying that people come up with in their heads to stop themselves from moving from the tried and true to something new....anyway to continue

As previously mentioned my other half has been waxing lyrical about quitting and becoming a vaper instead, I said i'd give it a shot and see what it's like. He suggested that I do some online research and decide on what kind of PV i'd like. I'll tell you right now I hadn't considered quitting, if I was going to do this to support him in his quest to quit smoking I wanted a 'cigarette’. I wanted a big cloud of smoke, that ‘throat hit’ that people have mentioned here, a light at the end of my ‘ciggy’ (the blue one’s actually pretty cute) and something that tastes like my favourite pastime.
The problem (or should i say the good thing) with google is that when you’re looking up info about e-cigs, pvs, mods, juice ect ect. you invariably come across quit smoking information including some graphic reminders of why smoking is bad for you. The plus side is that you also come across some really interesting information about how vaping can help you stop smoking altogether. Now, being a sceptical soul, i’ve done a fair bit of info seeking on vaping and IT’S potential hazards….so far nothing anywhere near the tried and proven poisons of cigarette smoking has been found with vaping. This might actually be an alternative? I can get my nic hit, my cloud of ‘smoke’ and even my little light without all the extra poisons that I didn’t really ask for?!?! Cool.

Vaping is an individual experience. You say that why have a fake on when you could have a real one? Vaping is not, in my opinion, a replacement for real cigs. It is an alternative to what has been the only thing available to people that enjoy smoking. I have found in my own experinces that vaping is a far better way to enjoy the smoking experience. It tastes better and has far more variety than real cigs. Some folks, me included, are resistent to change. but if one keeps an open mind and is willing to try something new, they might find a whole new world of experiences and ideas they thought wasn't possible for them. Good luck, I hope you find what it is that suits you best.

I have to thank a member of the ECF for my real turning point. I’m sorry that I don’t remember who wrote it or how long ago but to paraphrase ‘why buy something that will look like you’re smoking when you’re not? Why attract the negative attention surrounding smoking when you’re not?’ From this point I started my real research. Which unit, which flavours, atomizers, cartomizers, drip tips, tanks, vg, pg, nic strength I could go on but I won’t.
To finish, before more people take me the wrong way, I am a convert and haven’t even vaped my first. I am already committed to use this tool to stop smoking and so is my partner. Our first order arrives tomorrow and if we have our way we will also have our last smoke tomorrow.

DaddyMohican is right on in my opinion. An e-cig vaporizes a liquid, so I guess it's fair to call it fake smoke, but just keep in mind how much easier on your health the fake stuff is and how much your body will think you down the road. And not far down the road either. After they switch over, most folks are amazed at how fast everything improves.

Edit: Yea! Congrats on your decision. Welcome to vaping and best of luck to you. :vapor:

Yes you could see it as fake smoke. But you can use coffee liquids when you feel like a coffee and avoid the real thing, Same with candys, fruit flavours and all your own compositions you can experiment and invent. In the beginning I just copied from others, but now I have a 70 flavours here, to combine or use just as is, every few days I try something else. This is a new world, nothing to do with my every days Winston, and now and then a montecristo wat I smoked before vaping.

HA! Call it a PV, call it a fake cigarette, call it whatever the hell pleases you the most. All I know is that cigarettes kill and these don't. That pleases me more than anyone will ever know! I didn't intend to quit, either. I just wanted something I could use inside the house because we have a "no indoor smoking" clause in our lease. Low and behold, the day I got my Riva is the day that I "accidentally quit." I was so into vaping that I just forgot about cigarettes and I haven't had one since!

I think of it as my "have your cake and eat it too" habit. I can "smoke" and still quit about 3995 other chemicals. I'm loving this obsession!!

It's been almost two months since my last analog, and I don't feel like I lost my best friend, I feel like I found one! I've almost got it customized, just a few more juices......... LOL

It took a couple of false starts for me - I think that I had it in my head, that, dammit, I like smoking and YOU can't tell me what to do. I even bought a kit and let it sit in the cabinet for 2 months ( I would take it out, scoff and put it back). But my curiosity was finally piqued, and I launched into a world of flavors, unlike anything I could have imagined. After that - there was no looking back, and I could not be more pleased. Best of luck on your journey :)
