Been a while since I went to college but if it is anything like I remember, I would think ecigs should be the least of their concerns.

"activities appear similar to" doesn't seem like cause to ban something. Driving appears similar to speeding in many ways, but we're not going to ban it.

I would imagine people are allowed to drink soda? Would appear similar to a cuba libre to me... banhammer?
Would think all of this might be interesting to any law students in your school, or med students, or journalism students...
Release the hounds!
But naturally be safe, courteous and reasonable in doing so .

i think it would be difficult for students to pass referendum agains the ban as it not only applies to ucsd but the entire University of California system :/

the only solution i can think of is stealth vape setups on the 18350 and french inhale all day lol

I doubt this will stop many people from vaping, I anticipate that individuals will continue to smoke their analogs as well. I can't imagine a system where they could regulate effectively.

It's not stated, but I assume it will either be a ticketed violation carrying a monetary fine or a "write-up" which follows somewhat of a three strike policy.

I can understand if they ban it indoors, class, cafe, student center, etc. That could cause issues with professors and other students.
But this is ridiculous.

The universities seem to come up with their own subjective reasons.. sigh.

Last year, my husband's alma mater banned ecigs. They said they'd banned it in 2011, tried to implement it in 2012, and only in the past 6 months actually did.

Check out this video they posted, just FF to 29 seconds to get the gist of it. They never mention a single viable reason for it. It's one of those "just because we can" scenarios.

An even greater misfortune is that if you elect to live on any of the campus sanctioned housing (dorms, on-campus/on-site apartments) it would be against the rules to vape, or smoke anything for that matter even in your own "home."

Reading the policy(both UCSD and the general UC policy)... They rather specifically state "unregulated nicotine products"....

Wouldn't vaping 0nic be allowed... Under strict observance of the stated policy.

The liquid, if not 0nic would be an unregulated nicotine product... An ecig however, contains no nicotine and is essentially just a variation of flashlight, mechanically.

I'd just carry a bottle of 0nic, and a printed copy of the policy... Make them prove I was vaping nicotine.

But I'm a libertarian like that.

My previous job banned ecigs. He claimed almost the same thing, he didn't want customers to think I was smoking in the building. My debate was something similar, but didn't work. You just can't get through to some people

I guess the difference is if someone who is sitting next to me is injecting ......, there is a lot of evidence to support the fact that there is no chance that I'll be affected by it.
Vaping next to someone, on the other hand....
Unfortunately, there is not so much evidence to support the fact that it won't affect the person sitting next to me.

If the school plans to ban e-cigarettes based on the argument that they contain propylene glycol, they ought to also ban these food items from being served on campus as well. More importantly, considering the method of delivery in e-cigarettes, propylene glycol is commonly used in fog machines, which will remain legal on campus after the ban. At best, the University’s characterization of this chemical as posing a serious health threat to students can be seen as ignorant and at worst it is purposefully misleading.
