OK so went through security in Winnipeg airport. Put my 2 X 5ml juices in plastic/liquids bag with one marked and the other unmarked. That went through no problem. I don't know WTF I was thinking but I took in my carry on, my Silver Bullet loaded with bat, and in my little roots pouch a spare battery, a Cisco 360 atomizer, 5 filled stainless boge LR 510s, two drip tips, an empty modded giantomizer and a battery extender (to fit giant on the SB.) I'm barely going to get any vaping inflight in so I don't know why I brought all that gear, I should have just put it with the rest in my checked in luggage. I think I was paranoid that I would somehow be in a situation with no vaping solution LMFAO.

Anyway unsurprisingly I had some explaining to do.

Security dude takes out the SB:

"what is this??

- big smile and "it's a battery"

"and I just press this button?"

- "yes"

presses it "but it doesn't do anything?"

- "that is correct" and I show him how to open it and view the battery lol

"well what is this battery for then?"

- "it is my personal vaporizer"

"what is that?"

- "it provides me with nicotine without making smoke"

proceeds to open and look at cartomizers "so these are the things? this is the stuff?"

- "yes that is the stuff"

pointing out the Cisco atty "ohh... it looks like there is a little bit of liquid on this one"

- "yes that is my favorite flavor"

"oh. OK sir."

- "thank you very much, I am glad and relieved that we have things clear and this isn't a problem to take on. But tell me, you see thousands of passengers, haven't you ever seen one of these before?"

"Yes I have but not that big!"

LMFAO!!!!

So I took one washroom break. #@*(&@#*(& the sink does not have a vaccum drain! I take a couple of hits anyway and blow them down the toilet. A horrible experience the paranoia of setting of the detector.

Can anyone confirm that vapor will indeed set off the detector?

Next stop Toronto airport. I am the only one in the cafe. I pick a spot as out of view as possible, order food and coffee and start vaping. The polite east indian host runs up and advises me "I am sorry sir but you cannot smoke in the airport!" I advised him "it's not actually smoke it's vapor." "oh I am very sorry sir." I asked him if has ever seen this before and he has not. I still don't feel comfortable doing this in here. I see people looking like WTF and I am a HEAVY vapor, it is lingering around the hanging lights so I go off to the washroom. It is a very large stall and noone else is there. Now this is much better.

Winter is easier for me. I always keep my scarf around my neck and exhale into the scarf. Most of the time I don't even bother to go to the lavatory. If I'm stuck in the dreaded middle seat, I'll make one trip to the Lav.

As long as you're not exhaling plumes of vapor, you should be fine. I've never set a smoke detector off, but don't exhale anywhere near the detector.

I offer no warranty on this advice. YMMV

I went Calgary-Frankfurt-Dammam and then back just recently. I occasionally stealth vaped, and did vape in the smoking booths in Frankfurt a couple of times, but those places are hideous. What I did was wore a patch and vaped in the bathroom in the airport. Did so in the airplane a couple times and blew into my shirt, but only because I wanted to see if "I could". The patch actually helped quite a bit in comparison to when I was smoking.

I didn't vape openly...didn't want to risk interruption in the journey at all. I didn't attempt vaping in Dammam airport at all.

Still it's good to know you can vape in the lav or something if you really need a hit.

I'd feel weird vaping anywhere public indoors. I'm surprised they let you on a plane with all that metal and stuff from the ecig

I'm actually more surprised they didn't have him use some e-juice for them. In O'hare going back and forth to get to a place I could smoke while waiting on my flight... well you have to go through security and I had coffee they made me take a drink of it before letting me through.
