Well, folks, I got all my vapemail today and dove right into some mixing. I started with a very simple mix for a first attempt of a "menthol cigarette". I made a 15 ml bottle of 75pg/25vg @ 18mg/ml nic. The juice calculator made this very simple.
IMG_2313.jpg
60mg pg nic 4.50ml

pg 5.55ml

vg 3.75ml

TFA Red Type @ 8% 1.20ml

NicQuid menthol burst 20 drops

-I steeped this in the UC for five 30 minute cycles. With a new coil/wicks, I put a ml of this mix and tried it. :) It is good!
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about it. The throat hit is smooth, with plenty of vapor. The nic is definitely there. I will reserve final judgement on this until it sits overnight. But I could vape the entire bottle- no problem!!!

The tobacco flavor seems a bit lacking upon inhale but on exhale I can really taste it, {bold tobacco aftertaste too.} I sense a slight citrus flavor in there and a very slight sweetness, but there is nothing to dislike here- no perfumey or chemical notes whatsoever. I am shooting for Torque 56 and I am in the right direction, IMO. Torque has some dirty, ashy notes that are missing here. The menthol comes through very nicely which I love.

I also made a Prime recipe with 8% Arabic and 2% AP that I will split up to test the Koolada vs menthol drops. It smells very similar to the Halo Prime I have already. Can't wait to try it.

I would like to give kudos to all who gave me guidance initially. Thank you very much! I am truly grateful. Anything I stumble upon that is good I will share. I can promise you that. This is gonna be fun!

From what I hear tobacco flavors do better after a couple of weeks. I too have started DIY and could kick myself for not starting sooner! I was always afraid of the math but the Ejuice Me Up calculator does make it simple! So with all the supplies and flavorings I got Im set for the next 4 months for about 60 bucks! And I was spending nearly that a month for juice and could only get 6 flavors a months. This way I got about 20 flavors right at my fingertips!

Im down to 6 mgs nic so a bottle of nic juice will last me for 6 months. Still figuring out the flavoring percentages but just remember start low cause you can always just add a few more drops.

I like your DIY station. I had my hubby make me one outta block of wood.

Sounds good Johnny, happy to hear it went well. I've never tried the TFA Red type, but I'll agree in general Tobaccos taste better after a little steeping. The TFA Black Honey Tobacco I have seems to be best after about a month. Only made a 7ml test batch, a month to steep, 2 days to vape it . :toast:

Cheers,
Steve

PS I was talking to some people in Dearborn and they told me you guys got hammered with a foot of snow then it's supposed to be something like minus 16 with -40 or so wind chill for a low. Stay warm!

I am testing the Prime 15 type recipe {Arabic 8%, 2% AP with a little Koolada} and so far, the tobacco tastes has straw or hay notes, LOL. Again, I sense zero floral or chemical notes here which is a VERY good thing. Perhaps the UC drives these out, but maybe tobacco flavorings simply need time to come out! This flavor is a faint yellow now, while the Red Type mix is totally colorless. I will visit these concoctions again at a later time. Gotta try that RY4 Double thing next.............

All in all, having total control of what you vape is what makes DIY so cool. The onus is on US.

I'm vaping RY4D with AP right now. I made a 120ml batch on Saturday. I think it's good right off the bat but will get better and a little darker as it ages (steeps)

Cheers,
Steve

Edit - My other 30ml batches of RY4D only lasted about 10 days to 2 weeks so I decided to rectify that problem, hence the 120ml ;)

Glad to see you used my prime recipe. Let me know how you like it.

I just mixed what is easily the best of the three so far. 8% TFA RY4 Double with 1% AP {with my mandatory menthol drops}
-75PG 25VG @18mg........... This is simply EXCELLENT tasting already. Yet again, no floral or chemical tastes! But this one tastes VERY close to some of the Halo juices that I love. It seems somewhere between Tribeca and Torque 56 which are two of my favorite vapes. No more buying from Halo. I will forever recommend Halo juice {I quit smoking with Halo} but will not pay those prices when all of us can make great liquid for a small fraction of the price. YES!!!!! :toast::toast::toast::toast::toast:

Funny you mention Tribeca and Torque56. Since I started making the RY4D variants I haven't touched the Tribeca and Torque56 I have left (about 1/2 bottle of each). I'm not saying it's an exact copy of either 1, but I actually seem to be preferring the RY4D mixes. I need to vape these because I need the bottles though :D

Funny how DYI does that. I to started with halo and still have several bottles I haven't touched in months. I still have tribeca,Captain Jack, torque 56. I in fact work 2 miles from Halo and bought it right from there manufacturing site (Unfortunitly not at a discounted price)..
