I'm sure someone will come along to help you that knows more than me but to me vg has a sweeter taste no matter where you get it. I usually try to stick to around 20% for total flavoring in a recipe. Believe it or not, to much can make you lose flavor. If you are using 100% vg, it maybe that you need to add some pg to the juice to add a bit of throat hit. I experiment right much and have added a drop of distilled vinegar (especially to tobacco flavorings) or even a drop of Everclear (Pure Grain Alcohol) or Vodka to enhance a flavor.

Great question and I look forward to reading the answers so we both can learn. :)

Less can be more with flavorings, and with max VG, steeping becomes more important than with a juice that has more PG. But you should not get much taste from the VG. Have you tried vaping just the VG by itself to see if that is really the problem?

I have. I tried it when I first got it to see what it tasted like. It's really strong. I started with 5% flavor, then 10, then 15. Finally I tried the 40%. I can taste the Irish Creme a bit on exhale, but the most prominent taste is the VG. Should I try a basic VG from Walmart or something?
