Hi,

After vaping for a little over a week now I've got a bold plan to wean myself off nicotine gradually but decisively. I Started on 18 first three days (when I first got my V2 Cigs starter kit) Switched to 12 immediately when I bought my Janty Clearo to upgrade from V2 and adjusted quickly to the slightly less TH.

Today I start my weaning off plan:

Week 1: Alternating between 12 and 9 (12 in the morning and after meals - 9 throughout the day and in the evening)
Week 2: All 9
Week 3: Alternating between 9 and 6 (9 in the morning and after meals - 6 throughout the day and in the evening)
Week 4: All 6
Week 5: Alternating between 6 and 3 (6 in the morning and after meals - 3 throughout the day and in the evening)
Week 6: All 3
Week 7: Alternating between 3 and 0 (3 in the morning and after meals - 0 throughout the day and in the evening)
Week 8: Nic free and starting on reducing my smoking 'habits' and triggers

I hope to be vape and nic free eventually. Just keeping my PV around for when a sudden craving or social situation trigger hits.

I already feel much better vaping than smoking. But eventually I want to stop depending on anything to get me through my day. Stop worrying about supplies, recharging, refilling,...

That's my plan. Will keep you posted how it's going.

If I feel hat it's not working I won't hesitate to go up in nic level. I swore on my mother's life that I would never touch an analogue again. If this means vaping instead of smoking, that's how it's going to be. But I at least want to attempt getting rid of anything beng sucked in my lungs. :)

Any members attempted a weaning off plan and failed/succeeded? Would like to hear your stories and possible tips.

Thanks and wish me luck!

Tom

That is an ambitious plan and in such a short time! I've been vaping full time for 7 months. Started at 24mg but went pretty quickly down to 18. I stayed at 18 until I got my first Reo, which hits harder, so it wasn't necessary to have that much nicotine and went to 12. I am now at 12 and 6, and pretty quickly full time at 6. Beyond that, we'll see. I don't have any timeline, but I can just feel it's time to lower the nic. I have no plans at this time to quit vaping altogether, unless I get totally bored with it and don't feel I want to do it anymore, but at this point, I can't foresee that happening. Good luck with it!

Maybe the plan is a little too ambitious. :) But I'm going to give it a shot anyway and try my best. I'm just astonished how vaping did make me lose my interest in smoking analogues almost immediately. I was a PAD smoker and smoked only three the day I started vaping. The next day only two and the last of those two I flicked away after onmy a couple of drags. If you told me beforehand vaping would make quit smoking totally over the course of just two days I would've laughed in your face. :)

My current plan is an 8 week plan so maybe that'll work also. If not, no man overboard and I will just take more time. My end goal is to stop vaping alltogether and declare myself a non-addict (except for coffee and chocolate :) )

It's still 8 weeks of weaning off but I figure the less time I take and stick to a stringent plan, the less time I will give vaping to become as conditioned to me as smoking once was. I'm afraid if I keep on vaping for years and years the habit will become harder and harder to shake.

We will see. I'm not going to put tremendous pressure on myself but I'm gonna try to stick to my plan.

Might I ask how long ago you quit smoking? and vaping?

there's more than physical but as anything I think if you want to you sure can.

We quit at the end of May, started at 24mg and symptoms made it clear I was on too much nicotine. So the 18mg came to play for a few weeks, then the 12mg and I got a couple 6mgs and couldn't make it on just those so about half the time I'm on 12mg and the other half (when I sit and chain vape watching tv or at the computer) 6mg, that's at 3 1/2 months of not smoking/vaping.

originally it was a one year plan to get down to no nicotine, but we'll see.

good luck to you...if you get that creepy crawly or craving feeling, better to vape than to smoke, is where I'm at.

Once you lose the smokes, moving downward in nic isn't much of a problem. I started at 24mg and stayed there for two years. I didn't really think about dropping. Once day I decided to go to 18mg and see what happened. Actually, it was easy. There were no cravings. I did that for a while and dropped to 12mg. Once again, no problem. I'm at 6mg now and thinking about 3mg. I'd do that only if I thought it would help me pass the nic test for health insurance, which is my end goal.

The key is to stabilize for a while before dropping again. Nic isn't your enemy. The enemy was combustible tobacco. I'd give it a month at the new level before stepping down in nic again.

Good luck with your plan wish you much success on . I started out at 18 nic and in 3rd week dropped to buying 12mg and now mixing in 6mg and 8mg i am still doing some of the higher ones to just use them up, I do plan on getting down to 0 nic but at this time i am not looking to give vapeing up i enjoy the flavors to much now and i like messing around with all my devices and have now started rebuilding.

If you make it great but if you have any issues don't get upset if you need more time :toast:

Tom, only you will know if your schedule is appropriate. You're already miles ahead by no longer smoking cigarettes. IMHO, if I still vape with a bit of nicotine WITHOUT all the other crap in cigarettes, it's not the end of *MY* world. I still drink coffee, and I've cut way back on drinking alcohol. A little nicotine in my system is not a lot for me to worry about....

Good Luck to you - set your goals and work to achieve them!

I'm one of the few here who started vaping with no plan to actually quit smoking. I only took up vaping because winter was coming on and I didn't want to stand out in the cold to smoke. Nothing else had ever done much to help when I wanted and tried to quit, so I was pretty surprised when I made the switch so easily.

And I really had no plan to reduce my nic, either. I started at 24mg. When I started to DIY, 24 was too strong so I dropped to 18. When that was too much I dropped again. I'm now using 6 or 12mg.

Maybe I'll give up vaping one day, maybe not - certainly not if it means going back to smoking.

I'm close to one year smoke free now, but that first month was tough. My first couple days, I went from 1.5 packs to 3 cigarettes. One day I kind of forgot to smoke any, so I tried to keep forgetting. I still had cravings... weeks 3 and 4 were the worst. But I didn't give in.

Hmm, yeah, I vape so I don't have to smoke, and have no intentions to ever stop vaping. But in the year that I haven't smoked, I have dropped my nic mg level from 24 mg, to 18, and now at 12 mg. Not that I planned to, but more that I had to. As my gear, knowledge, skills and collection grew, so did my level of vape, and had to lower it or walk around dazed and confused for half an hour. :D

I am a Non smoker, but am an avid vaper. Feel so much better and energetic, since quitting smokes, why stop something that has been nothing but good for me, and something I enjoy immensely. But that's me, and after 30 years of smoking, found me a knew, nicer, prettier, best friend, and this one ain't stabbing me in the back.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!!!

Similar here, got the vape stuff to cut down but had absolutely no intention of quitting. Went from 20+ a day (rollies no filter) to 3 a day straight off and was enjoying fags less and less. About a week later had a ... and hated it so just stopped. I bought 18 to start but found it too much and went straight down to 6. Mix my own at 6 and only very occasionally do I find this too weak. Can't see me stopping vaping though as already this is more of a hoby than a habit. Mixing juices making mods and talking crap what's not to love?

Good luck to Letooke though if that's the route you want to go, personally I think I would start munching sweets if I totally stopped and I would rather go back to baccy that become even fatter.

I think it's a great plan. My only suggestion would be to be flexible about it. Don't make it painful on yourself. If you find you need extra steps in between, or an extra week at each level, don't be too hard on yourself about it... just let the progress be progress, whatever it is.

I started at 6mg, but it was too much for me, so quickly switched to 3mg. That might have been too much too, so now I'm at 1.5mg, and as of yesterday, I'm only doing 1.5mg a few times per day... I'm mostly sticking to 0mg. All this switching and tapering down has been in the span of 2 weeks. However, I smoked REALLY light cigarettes (even though 2 packs per day), and seem to be pretty sensitive to too much nicotine. Everyone will be different. Finding what works FOR YOU is most important.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I also was ultra surprised at how easy I switched off analogs. I was not even planning to quit I was just wanting to cut back with a mix of both. I started at 24mg for the first month and at 1 month I switched to 18. Have had no problems with that step. Not sure when I will drop next as I am just doing it slowly. Good luck to you on your plan!

Thanks for all your replies, advice and encouragement. I will listen to my body and if nic cravings do start to pop up unrelentlessly I might stay on that level longer or even up one. We'll see how that goes.

Kind of funny that I only checked out e-cigs because I'm going on a three week holiday to Borneo in november and long plane rides (13 hours) used to get me so rattled up because I couldn't smoke. I thought I would check out vaping to see if I could sneak a vape in the plane bathroom to get me through the very long flight. Incredibly stupid but that was the actual reason I looked into vaping. :)

Now I'm analogue free without a single craving for one in the space of a couple of days and even planning going nic free soon. Funny how things work! :)

Glad to have found this vaping forum with so much information and very helpful vaping colleagues to exchange thoughts with.

Went to the vape shop in Holland this morning and bought 6mg liquids to mix with my 12mg liquids. Except for in the morning and after meals (when I will vape 12 this week because those are for me the most trying times of the day) I have been smoking 9 during the day already. Must say a barely notice a difference. My all day vape is still Tobacco Mix. My non-tobacco 'dessert vape' has changed from mojito (good but was getting really bored of it) to capuccino (I do like my coffee :) ) I do still prefer the darker flavours over the overly sweet or fruity flavours (I get bored of them so easily it seems).

I expect that the real challenge will come when I go below 6 and eventually to 0. But that's still a couple of weeks down the road so I will be adjusting to 9 in the next two weeks before dropping further.

I 've read here that lots of people that adjust to 0 nic prefer menthol flavours because they still give some kind of TH at a 0 nic level (although it's not really comparable to a nicotine TH). Any other 0 nic flavours you guys vape or recommend? I'm not really a menthol kind of guy (I used to detest menthol cigarettes also because they disrupt the flavour of food and drinks since the menthol seems to numb the taste buds and tends to linger a long time).

    No you can't
I'm in your corner doing the pom pom dance.

I've tried myself about six months ago went from 18 mg down to 15mg but because of headache's had to go back up. Two weeks ago I got one of those up and down T5 regulated device this allowed me to try again because the quality of the vape improved that much, I've been able to go back down to 16mg with no I'll effects and by this time next month I expect to be at 12mg my goal is reduce nic each month until it's gone or I'll effects return. I believe the better device with improve vape quality was the catalyst that allowed me to drop my Nic level.
