The aim of this policy is to work towards a smoke-free enclosed workspace, for the benefit of all employees, visitors and contractors at all locations of Tyco Electronics UK Ltd. As a company we do not allow any type of smoking (which would include e-cigarettes) within the enclosed space and as of July 2007 smoking is only permitted in designated external shelters.

As you probably aware, the e-cigarette even looks like a cigarette, and typically consists of a metal tube containing an atomizer, a battery and a cartridge filled with liquid nicotine. When a user sucks on an e-cigarette, a light-emitting diode causes the tip to glow and the atomizer turns the liquid nicotine into a vapour, creating a cloud that resembles cigarette smoke.

As a company we actively support our employees who are planning to give up smoking and our latest campaign, details attached, confirm that.

I hope that this explains the company's position, however should you have any further questions Please let me know.

please feel free to rip the piss out of it :)

Good example of "Why would anyone want an ecig to resemble a cigarette." Almost everyone that I know, that now vapes, including me when I started, said 'it has to look like a cigarette.' Thankfully, this mindset quickly changes. When asked now, 'what is that in your hand', I say it is my personal vaporizer.....I know it is just a matter of wording but I have seen that it makes a difference in the way others react to it. Games people play....such a shame.

I'd reply with

Thank you for forcing me to inhale other's second hand smoke even though I've chosen to get my nicotine in a way that is 1000 times safer for myself and others than cigarettes are. It is nice to know that even though I am concerned with my health and would like to not be exposed to others smoke, you insist I do so.

Lets not forget the main purpose the ecig is fulfilling for us all. It was to use it instead of smoking cigarettes, and is not used just to be able to vape in places we cannot smoke. Sure we can get away with it if you keep it on the down low, but openly using PVs in public where smoking is not permitted is jut not possible yet (in most places) I myself would not have asked my employer. I did ask my coworker, and she does not mind at all, but would never think to ask the company, which has a non smoking policy. Lets all remember the benefits of ecigs, and even a minor inconvenience is far better than what we used to be doing to our bodies with analogs.

I wouldn't hesitate to ask the company. Vaping is not smoking, and the reason behind nonsmoking policies (second-hand smoke exposure) is not valid with vaping. I would very much recommend people ask their employers, state their case, and accept the employer's decision whether or not it was favorable. It is their place of business, after all, and they get to set the rules.

I also, personally, wouldn't hesitate to stealth-vape if necessary. But that's just me, not a recommendation.

I've never understood this stance, particularly in the workplace. As a smoker, I have to stop what I'm doing and leave my workspace to go have a cigarette. As someone using a Personal Vaporiser (going to start using that one myself), I can vape and work at the same time. It just stagers me that employers would rather lose productivity than allow for healthier alternatives that maintain productivity.

By the way, my name's Matt, I've been an e-cig user for almost a year now, and this is my first post in these parts.
