Hi all, brand new here and I would have posted this in the madvapes forum, but since I'm a newbie I have to post it in here... Hopefully someone here can help me.

I started vaping about 3 months ago. I've been using a brand called E Cigarettes, Electronic Cigarette, E Cig, by Smokesation. They sell pre-filled, disposable cartomizers that I guess aren't very typical? Everyone I've come across who vapes always has bottles of liquid and have to refill constantly. At first I saw that as a pain, but then I also felt it was kind of cool to be able to refill whenever you wanted.

Anyway, curiosity got the best of me and I ordered a RoughStack kit and my wife got an e-Go kit from Madvapes.com

I've done TONS of research and the RoughStack has great reviews. We also ordered well-reviewed e-liquids (a few different tobaccos, a coffee, a cappuccinno, and some berry stuff). However, after following all of the directions I can find online on how to set this thing up and fill it, the first few hours with the RoughStack were terrible in terms of taste. I mean, disgustingly terrible. Like a burned metallic plastic/chemical nastiness. I've read that the atomizers need to be "broken in" before they taste good because of the 'primer'? I've also read that you can clean the primer off prior to use, but haven't found any guides.

So is this nasty taste normal? If so, does that mean I'll have to deal with this on a regular basis? I've also read that e-liquids need to 'steep' to get the full effect of their flavors. Since I've had them less than a day, I'm assuming I need to wait longer for the flavor to really kick in?

The burned taste is kind of gone now, but I wouldn't describe the flavor that I'm now getting as 'good.' I'm also not getting very heavy vapor, although all the reviews claim I should be. I've been keeping the cartridge super wet, so it's not from lack of moisture. I'm really unimpressed at this point and want to know if there's a trick that I need to know to make this RoughStack work well and taste well. If not, I may just have to check on the return policy of this thing and go back to my pre-filled cartomizers from smokesation. I never had an issue with the taste of Smokesations stuff, it was always delicious and it's what got me hooked on vaping in the first place!

Perhaps you did not clean the primer off of the atomizer? Primer tastes awful.

Blow out the atomizer into a tissue. Prime (drip 3-4 drops of eliquid on the bridge and let that soak in). Use an empty cart or drip tip and vape that mostly off without inhalng. Blow out the atty again into a tissue. Reprime w/ juice. Vape that mostly off without inhaling. Check the taste w/ one inhale. Repeat ad infinitum until it tastes OK.

I just got my ego in yesterday and I can tell you the EXACT same thing happened to me. For the whole night, I had this nasty chemical aftertaste and I thought it was the Menthol Liquid I bought from Liberty Flights and I was kind of ...... because I bought a 30ML.

When I woke up the next morning and started vaping, that aftertaste went away and it tastes 10x better. I can say that was my issue, and that it is normal (if that's the same thing happening to you, but i'm not sure).

Down the rabbit hole..
Is steeping just letting is site for a week or two or do you have to do something to it?

You let it sit in a cool dark place away from heat and sunlight..depending on the juice it may take a month or more.
I check mine about once a week if I've never used that particular brand/flavor before. Some juices are good from the
beginning and no need to steep them at all.

It is hard to let juices steep when you are new and it is all that you have. As a general rule fresh made complex flavors usually need to steep for at least a week, usually anything with any kind of fancy name is a mixed juice. But stuff with simpler names, like apple or strawberry, or coffee, don't need to steep as long because there is only one flavor and it only has to mix with the vapor producing medium. Also a 100% PG juice can feel bad, harsh and irritating, some people associate the feeling with taste but it is different.

Knowing what juices you got from which vendor may help us to be able to tell you which need to steep and which will taste better faster.

Also switching from cartos to atomizers can be a bit tricky, yes they do need to be kept wet, but they are also easy to flood, when you flood an atomizer they don't make much vapor. You can test to see if they are flooded by drawing on them without pushing the button, if it gurgles the atty is flooded and needs to be blown out.
