Think I read somewhere that they were going to be doing some modifications to the AC9 soon. Not sure if any would be due to a flaw, or just to appease/improve

Think it had to do with moving the negative leg closer....

Well if you're going to order the AWs from Provape along with a new spring - how about tossing in an 18490? If the unit works in standard mode - you'll know the problem isn't at the cap end with the connection and/or chipset.

You know, you might be on to something.. I might just do that anyway, as it wouldn't hurt to have 1 or 2 18500s laying around. Although, the standard end cap still might not tell me much as it's not recessed like the extension cap. But, like you said, it still might give an indication that the post on the control unit is askew or fine. BRILLIANT, I say..bloody brilliant!
