It's starting to taste better now, thanks!

Just one other question: is there anything I need to keep an eye out for specifically safety-wise other than hotspots and hot legs and that kind of build-issue stuff when using a non-mech VV/VW device? Or if it's firing, reading the correct resistance, and working well, is it probably OK besides the coil-specific stuff? I'm not even thinking about doing my own coils on a mech right now.
Did you wash the deck before you built it? Sometimes, most of the time, machine oil residue will make your juice taste funny and hit harsh.
If the resistance starts to change dramatically then I would be concerned that there might be a coil issue. Some things to remember, if it doesn't fell like it's hitting properly and it reads the ohms, check the battery. If the ohms are all over the place, check to see if you have a screw loose in the atty.
If you ever have a problem we are always here to help :)

Yeah, I did wash it! I think it was the new cotton since it seems to be getting better and better.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep an eye out for all that! The resistance has been completely stable so far, right on the money! It seems to be hitting right for now, but if any of that happens I'll know what to check. I know I can always ask more if I need :) Thank you! So far everything is just great.

I was going to say the royal Hunter sounds good. For you too.

Yeah, had an eye on that! I forget what I heard that turned me away for now, but there's always next time. Looks like a nice one :)

I currently have one on my sig 150 22g dual coil at . 2 ohms production and flavor is amazing

It's crazy what I can fit in my derringer. I fit loosely twisted 26 duals, 26g fused with .5x.1mm ribbon claptons and right now I have a 3 strand 30g fused Clapton wrapped with 34g. 8 wraps around a 2.5mm bit. Far from perfect, but colorful in this pic.

If you have experience with jewelry then I'd say start some braids. Vertebraid coils are sick, I have a standard 3 loop braid - 6 wrap around a 2.5mm bit dual set up in my dark horse right now. I've seen absurdly sick things done with braided coils. Like coils shaped like DNA. I'm nowhere near that level but 3,4, & 5 loop braids are very doable for me, with no history with jewelry. The bottom braid is a 4 loop side braid around 2 strands of 26g. If you have 28g&up, definitely give a vertebraid a shot!

That's super awesome. I could totally get into braiding like that. Though I must admit, I decided to tear out my first build and go for a dual coil set-up last night and that was embarrassingly difficult. Mostly stupid stuff, like I tried putting them staggered in the post holes ( (x) ()(x) () ) like we talked about, and then again on the other side, and couldn't cut the leads close enough because the positive leads were stuck behind the coils. I ended up setting it up with the leads through side-by-side post holes and it's working really well now but was difficult to push towards the center and they're still pretty far off. Some of the lead-cutting problem may have been because my wire cutter got stuck in transit and I have others that are really made pretty explicitly for jewelry and thus a bit bulkier... the new one is definitely smaller and hopefully small enough to go behind those coils. Hopefully putting them in side-by-side holes with a split center post isn't the end of the world, but someone tell me if something will blow up!

Honestly I think I like the single coil better, but we'll see. I might like a higher resistance dual. This is clocking in at .3 on the nose, which is what I wanted... but boy that is a hot vape for me. I do, however, like that I'm getting pretty huge clouds with really short puffs. It's pretty simple and I have a feeling most people reading this thread will have done it already, but for anyone curious I did each of the coils with 24g, 7/6 wraps, 3mm. I ended up following notes I had taken watching videos and reading but I think it came from RipTrippers originally.

I'm in northern NJ, how about you?

edit: I just did some quick reading on the braiding and I'm not sure I have a high enough gauge wire to do much yet. I'm seeing a lot of 30s and 32s, I only got 24 and 28 for now. Think it's possible to use the 28, or should it wait until I can get 30-32? Also, I see a lot of people twisting with drills. Do those that feel comfortable sometimes twist by hand or does the drill just work so much better that a lot try to do that? Just curious...

I'm in Monmouth county. I'm going to the vape expo in Edison in a little bit.

And if your wire cutters are bulky (mine are, they suck) what I do is get the first coil set up and centered, clip the leads when I have it sitting where I want, unscrew the screws, then using the bit I wrapped it around, take it out and get the second coil in, fasten down the screws and clip the leads. After that I put the first coil back in so it doesn't interfere with the second.
You can do a 28g 3 loop vertebraid, I see no reason why it shouldn't work in your atty, the post holes are massive! It'll definitely fit.
And about the drilling to twist, it makes things a lot easier and more consistent. It's also how you make the more intricate builds like staggered fused claptons with thin gauge wires. Don't get me wrong, one can wrap a 24/28g Clapton by hand, even a fused 24/28g by hand. It's easier to work with larger gauges but when you're working with a 30g core and a 36g Clapton wrap you're definitely going to want to use a drill because of the fineness of the 36g wrap - it's really easy to screw up.
The drill I use is I think from the 1980's haha. It's corded, has a key locking worn out chuck and makes my life a PITA when I want to make things like alien coils and other multi strand fused claptons. But the important thing with a drill is trigger sensitive variable speed. With a drill you definitely need to control how fast you're going at all times when twisting, claptoning, etc.

Awesome! I'm in Essex. I saw the Expo mentioned in various places but it just didn't seem like I could get there. I was actually just reading about all the fines handed out for indoor vaping :/

That makes sense about what to do with bulky clippers. I did try to do exactly that last night but I just had trouble getting the tiny leads back in and the coil in the right place and it had taken so long already I said forget it. Is it important enough to take out my current set-up and try to do alternating, or is it just something to try next time if the new cutters aren't small enough? ETA: I will say that it hasn't budged once from .30ohms.

ITA that almost anything I want to build should fit in the TM. I think I'll wait a little yet before getting into braiding and twisting and what-not despite my background in jewelry. It's almost unbelievable how much better my second and third freehand wraps were than my first, so I figure a few more builds and I'll be fine trying out something crazy.

People are getting fined for indoor vaping...at a vape expo?! Qtf...that's not right. Whatever I'm still going. Made a bunch of wire to give away.

And it's not that important. Next time if you wanna run a dual coil, you could always have your first coil sitting intentionally higher than the post holes, then bring it down once you have the other leads clipped. A fingernail clipper could do the job.

No, not individual people fortunately. The vendors and expo-runners were all fined from what I read, and now vaping has been relegated to a separate pavilion as far as I can tell. Idk what that does to juice vendors though :/

Right on, got it. Thank you for your continuing help. That's a good idea about raising up the one coil if I need to.

Do you have a pic of your setup?
What kinda cotton/wick are you using?
i know you werent asking me, but here is the vertex build i put in last night. 9 wraps 26g kanthal at .5 ohms with ko gen do cotton wicks. used the coilmaster rig i just picked up and am loving how clean it makes coils.

That looks good! I need a coil master!
I like the fact that you don't have to change coils every couple of days on drippers! If you change the wick every 3-4 days coils will last a month or longer. I have an atty with 3 month old coils that fire perfect every time lol

This is exactly why I need to get a second RDA stat! I didn't want to do a clone for my very first but I suppose now that I have one I like, I might be amenable to a well-reviewed clone... Much like flavors, I feel like I'm the sort who will get tired of the same build pretty quick. My first single coil .5ohm build was working just great last night but I tore it out after 6 hours just because I wanted to try something else.

that is true... but i always change coils with wicks. I have had limited success with swapping out wicks only and so instead just rebuild the whole thing. I enjoy building coils anyways, so it really is no bother.

Fasttech is awesome!
Angelcigs has a US warehouse and shipping costs a lil much but if ya find enough cheap stuff the shipping works itself out lol.
