hey all, as the title states, im new and need advice on vaping.
i have decided to kick the habit and join the vaping community, and i need some advice, which juice is best for a 31 yr smoker, (1 big pack a day) and why you recommend that and also which vape device is user friendly to use as a new user? i dont want to break the bank as im first starting, but i dont want some cheap rubbish that will not stand up to rigorous use or break too easily, looking at various sites i see adverts for starter kits like the evods and aspire kits are they any good or is it worth spending more for a higher quality kit from the get go??

thanks for any input you guys/girls can give me

With 35 years of smoking, I had to find the confidence that vaping nicotine would satisfactorily replace the nicotine in a cigarette, therefore, I went a step higher. That was 36mg. I took about 5 draws and got a head-rush. I went to 24mg and I did about 3-4 draws per hour. I had no urges other than that.

For me, in quitting smoking, I just went by urges at first and I recommend that. If you are going to sit down and continuously vape for an hour, obviously your nic intake will be to much. Over time, I have come to understand that and I might use a low nic-content juice for that period. I know that when I am visiting with a vaping friend or watching a sports game on TV, I will use a lower nic.

I would buy ONE bottle of 24mg and a bottle of 18mg. Give the 24mg a try with 3-4 draws an hour. Just stick with urges for now.

Personally, there's no problem with going with an ego battery device. They are what most vapers start out with, and many continue to use to this day. However, a significant number of people who start out with an ego setup eventually end up with a mod, or APV (advanced personal vaporizer). It's all explained in these two blogs I've written for beginners:

Good Setups for a Beginner Vaper

Advancing Up the Vaping Ladder

I will say that the topper, or juice delivery attachment has more to do with the satisfaction of your vape than does the battery device used. For example, something like the higher end Aspire Nautilus tank will perform better than a simple Evod tank, regardless of the battery device used. The higher up the chain of juice delivery attachments you go, the better the vape.

Proper Terminology: Guide to Juice Delivery Attachments

The e-liquid and flavor chosen is probably more important than the gear chosen. Unfortunately, this is very much a personal choice and individually subjective. What one person likes, the next person will not. My recommendation is to find a vape shop within driving distance which offers free tasting of their flavors. Most tobacco flavors will taste nothing like a cigarette as you can't replicate the taste of burned tobacco leaves and smoke in an ecigarette. You might be better served to find a fruit, candy, coffee, or desert flavor that you like instead of forever chasing a flavor that reminds you of your cigarette.

If wavering about the prices of your ecig product choices, keep in mind how much you spent per month when you smoked. A pack per day probably ran you at least $150 a month. Allow this amount into your first month of vaping considering battery device, batteries. charger, juice attachments, replacement atomizers, and juices. Thereafter, your subsequent costs will be just for replacement coils and e-juice, a significant savings in cost per month compared to smoking. The initial "gear" needed when first starting to vape will be your most expensive month.

If I was just starting out, but knew what I know now, this is what I would do.....

Tank

Mod
Coils

As for the Juice, I would recommend unflavored with a hint of menthol. There are a few benefits to it, the leading of which would be that your coils will last much longer. I would get a 30ml bottle of unflavored 18mg 50/50 and a 15ml bottle of Menthol 18mg 50/50 (both linked above) and combine them.

Al total, would be less than $90 and you would have 7 coils (2 included with the tank) and 45ml of juice. will give you a good intro into vaping without breaking the bank.

+1 A low power battery might not give you the best vaping experience, but a poorly performing tank or clearomizer will flat-out ruin it for you. The Nautilus or Aerotank are good choices.

Besides the eGos, take a look at the Eleaf iStick as darthvaper mentioned or the Innokin Cool Fire. They are a little more expensive, but offer a lot of bang for the buck.

I used the Aspire Nautilus tank for awhile until I started rebuilding my own coils. Actually, I had 5-6 Nautilus tanks. I liked them. In the morning with my coffee I had a flavor that seemed to go well. Then, 3-4 for different flavors depending on my mood and one was always a step lower in nic. Usually a pastry. I like to say that as my wife and I sat in front of the TV in the evening, she would eat a piece of apple pie and I would vape apple pie...for zero calories.

The Aspire Nautilus is a good clearomizer. Use the coil for the full bottle of e-juice. Once the coil is saturated with a juice flavor, changing flavors messes it up. That is why I had a lot of toppers.

Remember, Big Tobacco made it reeal easy to smoke a cigarette. AND, they only came in regular and menthol flavors. Vaping is real big world. Have fun while you are getting your nic. Worry about lowering your nic in a couple months. Just settle in.

Good luck!

Get a Subox, and if you're a menthol guy buy some Menthol. Keep in mind that there is no flavor that will replicate the exact taste of a cigarette smoke :)

thank you Kieron Mclean, i have been looking at the nautilus mini this evening and its on my possible list.
is there any starter kits i should steer clear of? darthvaper101 stated i shouldnt go with a evod, is this including the evod 2 series as well? what about the other klanger starter kits? im looking mainly at starter kits due to the lower cost of the sets plus the fact i could get 2 devices to ensure i have a constant up time on the batteries, plus i want to maximize my cash flow for the purchase of various juices as i see that being the highest cost for me this month, trying to find flavors i enjoy. any help is greatly accepted as i dont want to be dissapointed with the vape experience and this will be my first time vaping but my 3rd time trying to quit.
thanks again to all that help

As far as juices go, I would recommend visiting a local brick and mortar vaping store, at least initially. Many of them offer samples of their flavors and I would suggest trying them all. Everyones taste is different and what I love, you might find nasty and vice versa.

Your favorite flavor might surprise you as well. I never in a million years would have guessed I like sweet fruity flavors.Just doesnt fit my tough guy image :)

When trying samples dont forget to ask the employees for a silicone drip tip cover. You simply place it on the tip of the mods youre trying, to avoid germs and spit.

***also if the store sells more than just their house brands and you find one that you like, make note of the name and look it up online. Often you can get the juice for much cheaper that way.

thanks to all that posted thus far, i am reading up on the guides, one of my main fears is that i wont be able to replace the taste of the cig with the juice, does anyone have a recommendation for a juice that would make a good starter?
What do you currently smoke? It is a question many don't think to ask, but can play a big role in what can help you the most. I started out with lights (at 14) and moved to ultra light 100's in my 20's, so the transition to vaping was simple for me, I was already use to a very light draw. I have tried many flavors and for a couple years I stuck to citrus or lemonade flavors, but always needed menthol, odd because I never smoked menthol cigarettes. Once the whole Diketone drama started I switched to unflavored (and DIY) with menthol and can say it is closest to the ultra lights I use to smoke, at least from what I can remember. Unflavored isn't actually without flavor, VG has a sweetness to it and some nic can add a bit of earthy/peppery hint to it as well, and of course menthol will add the cooling sensation, good for getting that "feeling" of taking a hit.

Give unflavored a shot, then unflavored with menthol. If it works for you then you can avoid the endless game of chasing the unicorn (trying to find the perfect flavor). Other benefits are; you never have to worry about vapers fatigue, you don't have to concern yourself with how attys affect flavor, it pairs with everything, you don't have to worry about what is in the flavors, as mentioned above, your coils will last much longer and it is SUPER simple to mix yourself if you decide to go that route later.

It took me a couple years to realize flavors are a scam, I didn't need it in the 26 years I smoked, why would I need it in my vape.

well, i got a kanger emow as it had a longer batt life in comparision to others and also due to the limited selection of starter kits at the store i visited, i settled for a couple of flavors and 1 tobacco all at 18mg to see how i like them, so far so good, im just finding it a little hard to adjust to the different way to draw on the ecig in comparision to an analog. what i have also noticed is after watching different youtube vids my device does not produce as much vapour as those used in the vids? maybe as im not used to the way to draw on it yet? or could it be the coil?
