I've been looking around alot and I'm overwhelmed with the huge selection of RTAs.

This will be my first re-buildable since my failed attempts years ago when the Genesis first came out. I'm a DTL vapor looking more for flavor then clouds, but I do love the clouds you can do nowadays. Ease of rebuild and at least a 5ml+ tank are the main things I'MA looking for. Those are the minimum requirements I'm looking for. Please help me choose. Currently I'm vaping a Smok Prince tank with the T10 cores at 95 watts and loving it.

Howdy and welcome to the forum :)

RDTAs are slightly easier to wick than RTAs because the wick length doesn’t matter as much. RTAs tend to hold a bit more juice though. The only DL RTAs I’ve got are an aromamizer plus and a solomon2. The Solomon 2 doesn’t hold enough juice for you but the aromamizer plus does, assuming you can handle its giant 30mm diameter on your mod. It holds 10ml. It’s not especially easy to wick correctly though.

Perhaps someone else will be along who has better answers for you.

Hi R.F.,
Do you want a single coil RTA or dual?
Top air or bottom air?
What is your budget?
Where are you located?
What device will you be using to power the new RTA?
Are you interested in Temperature Control vaping or happy with watts?

Cheers
I

Yup, the more info the better.

Also, I'm going to say it. If you really aren't sure this is one time I might suggest a clone if you are looking at something not all "budget friendly" and stuff, because my road to building was littered with well, things I couldn't build (although it's not my strong suit, honestly, I have a fine motor tremor and etc.) You may do just fine, but honestly if you really can't decide throwing a clone or two into the mix may help you FIND OUT what you like more inexpensively.

Keep in mind that is JUST my recommendation you should really do what you want. I build on non-clones now for the most part, apart from a few gems that are clone-only.

Good luck and more info...

Single or dual I don't know yet.
Top or bottom not sure either, I've only used bottom airflow since I started vaping again.
Budget Wise low cost would be good to start with, but $50 or so is doable.
I'm located in the DFW TX area right now.
My current device is a Smok G-Priv 2.
I've only been doing watts so far but temp control is something I would like to play around with.
Lots have changed since I Vaped a little over 5 years ago, so I'm willing to play around with trying to find what fits me best, even if I have to change my current vaping style.

You'll probably get a lot of different answers as to which RTA is best. If I was to start all over, without any knowledge on which tank to choose, bombastinator's suggestion regarding the aromamizer plus would be the way I would go. I was more than happy with it myself. I tend to prefer the aromamizer supreme, but the juice capacity in only 5ml I believe.

If you do go that route ask in this thread on how to wick it properly.

Single or dual I don't know yet.
Most dual RTAs will do both single and dual with varying levels of success. Single is simpler because you don’t have to balance the coils and the coils are generally larger diameter and this may be a bit easier to deal with. They will produce a good amount of vapor, but for absolute max volume a dual coil helps.
Top or bottom not sure either, I've only used bottom airflow since I started vaping again.
Top airflow attys tend to have slightly more complicated decks but are very good at resisting leakage.
Budget Wise low cost would be good to start with, but $50 or so is doable.
So just about anything then

An American with a high wattage dual battery mod. You really do have a lot of available choices
I've only been doing watts so far but temp control is something I would like to play around with.
The only real requirement for TC is TC wire and a mod capable of TC, which you got. I would suggest stainless steel wire as it can be used for both TC and non TC so you have to buy less wire.
Lots have changed since I Vaped a little over 5 years ago, so I'm willing to play around with trying to find what fits me best, even if I have to change my current vaping style.
That probably means multiple attys. If you try a MTL atty you don’t need to worry about juice capacity too much. They use a lot less juice.

I'll tentatively suggest the Kylin II:

Pros
  • Superb flavour even DTL
  • Comes with 3ml and 5ml glass
  • Can be single or dual coiled
  • Great airflow range
  • Supplied drip tip is "Just right"
  • Reasonably priced
Cons
  • A bit tricky to wick/dual coil, single coil is OK
  • AF/disassembly is a bit stiff
  • Some people have had quality/leaking issues with VV tanks in the past
  • Drinks juice like a V8 dragster
Been using this for a few weeks now, and I really like it mainly for the consistent flavour across a variety of juices. Closest RTA I've come to in flavour to my Oumier Wasp, and that is a hard act to follow.

Ok I'm really thinking about getting the Aromamizer Plus.

What do I need to do wicking wise to use it with high VG blends?
There are several schools of thought on that. I would suggest watching a video or 4 on how people wick it.

What I do is I take the deck out of the atty entirely (it pops out when you press it up from the bottom after removing the top) so I can get at the bottom of the deck.
Then I wick it long and push the wick all the way through the juice channel so the ends hang out the bottom. Then I cut them off with a scissor as close as I can (1/8th to 1/16th of an inch maybe, or a few mm if you live in the rest of the world) then I fluff the stubble at the bottom of the deck and make sure it covers the entirety of the hole. It is possible to have too much cotton in there. You don’t want it too tight. Then I put the deck back in the bottom, juice up both the wick and the channel in the base, and put the top back on. Works pretty reliably. If I get dry hits after a few puffs it means I used too much cotton and I need to wick it again using a little less.

I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in......Since you say you don't have a lot of building experience under your belt, yet, I would recommend a single coil RTA for starters. The way they're making them now will give you plenty of vapor and flavor.

Bottom air RTAs can give newbs leaking problems until they get the wicking right. So, with the new generation of top air RTAs, I highly recommend one. An RDTA won't leak out the bottom but you won't want to leave it on it's side, either. And since you can't isolate the deck from the tank for easy cleaning, rewicking, building, it poses an inconvenience, imo. We have a Top Air RTA thread right here in the forum. Shawn Hoefer has tried and reviewed each one as they release (or as soon as he can procure them). I found it immensely helpful and have bought 4 or 5 of them so far, lol.

You can use SS wire for your builds. That way you have the choice of using TC or VW/VV. You may have noticed that you can now buy artisan coils or spooled wire of Claptons, etc. to wrap your own. Here's a great US vendor with professional customer service and instruction resources on their site. SS specialists.

Products

I also agree with the mention of Aromamizers. They make excellent products. Although, the Plus will perform better, imo, with dual coils even though you can run a single.
There are now many US vendors with affordable prices. Be sure to check out the other threads for vendors, discount codes, special sales, etc.

Good luck and welcome back:)

I'm going to try this! I never thought to put the cotton through the holes, that is a great idea. I always rest the legs of my cotton right on the hole. With this I get the occasional leak, I think your method will help tremendously. Thank you for posting that tip!

One thing I found too with the Aromamizer line of tanks is less cotton is more! In line with what bombastinator suggested you do not want to use too much cotton, definitely on the loose side.

Top-air single coil is much more user friendly imo. Might find something that appeals to you in this thread, well worth the read.
Top air RTAs

Why I can't click 'agree' more than once? Leak is not only one bottom top air flow solves vs. bottom air flow tanks. Juice condensation is a major flaw too in bottom air flow tanks especially if you blow a lot like RipTrippers do. It appears like leaking but it's totally solved with top airflow tanks as you suck back in or down any droplets of condensation and even leaks.

O.K. I got my new Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus in yesterday.

I've got it wicked up and love this thing. I am having one issue though.
I'm having a leaking issue when filling it. I can lay it on it's side and have no leaks after it's filled, it only leaks when filling it. I do turn the juice control to off when filling but it still leaks all over the place.

Is this a wicking issue or something else?

Yes and no. Maybe. Are you using the juice flow ring? Bah that shot sucks. You can’t see the little lock and unlock symbol. It’s the bottom ring with the knurled bits on it
