Hello to all =)

I am so happy I’ve found this forum, it’s seriously better than any other forum I’ve found so far. The pure wealth here is amazing! I’m just sad that I didn’t find it before laying out $400 for products I realize now I never should have bought.
A little history: (If you don’t care and just want me to get to the point feel free to move right on to the questions! lol)
My daughters both wanted the e-cig for xmas and I knew the local mall sold electronic cigarettes. Unfortunately I didn’t know very much about them, so I didn’t realize until I got there, the day before xmas eve, that they sold just one type and the cost for a basic kit (2 batts, 1 atty, 5 carts and a wall charger) was $150 per kit! I had gone to the mall with the intention of also picking up a kit for myself but at these prices I just couldn’t afford it. I had no choice however, but to buy the expensive kits for the girls since I had waited until the last minute! Yes, I will probably wait until the day before to shop next year also. Some lessons are just hard learned!
So, realizing the mistake I made, consumer savvy me went home and googled “e-cig kit”. I opened the first 20 or so links and comparison shopped as to what came in the kit to what the cost was. I had no idea there were differences with the kits other than one has a cartridge and one a cartomizer. I thought all were made equal. I found the E9 cigarette on e-cig dot com and purchased the kit with 2 batts, an usb charger, 4 carts, and a carry case. Though I don’t have anything for comparison this kit seems to have good vapor and throat hit and I’m happy with that part. However, the shorter battery it came with is lucky to last for the equivalent of 2 cigarettes and the larger battery maybe 5 and that’s pushing it. Both batteries take hours to charge, about 6 hours for the larger one! So my great plan to quit smoking the day it came in has miserably failed since both batteries are dead within 3 hours (I’m a pack n a half a day smoker) and take so long to charge that I am left for hours in between with nothing to smoke but real cigs =(
I have spent the last 4 or 5 days pouring through the info here, making notes (yeah I’m a geek), saving links and doing TONS of reading and You tubing, and I think I have a good idea of what I want to order but I am stuck between the kr8 and the joye 510.
SO, if anyone uses these (preferably someone who has used both because everyone it’d be better for comparison, I think?) wouldn’t mind taking a few minutes (more than you already have to read my entirely too long post) I would be so very grateful! I really love vaping and want to make sure I get something I really like! Although with my shopping habits and “I want it now” attitude I’ll probably end up purchasing multiple pv’s over the next few months! Lol

Here we go with my Q’s:
1. It seems from all the reading I’ve done on here that both the kr8 and the 510 are about the same on vapor and throat hit, or pretty close to it. True?
2. The batteries: The life of the battery is VERY important to me, and I do plan on purchasing something like the ego in the future but for now I want the slim stick feel to help kick my analog habit. I see there are two sizes of batts for the kr8 (discounting the shorty) and two for the 510. Am I right in assuming the small kr8 is the same length as the small 510? I’m talking only batts not with the atty's, carts or carto's attached. If not which kr8 is equal in length to the standard 510?
3. The standard 510 battery and the standard kr8 battery (or which ever two are about the same length). What is the comparison here to how any puffs per charge? Are they about the same or does one battery last a lot longer than the other?
4. The mega 510 battery and the long kr8, are these also the same, and hold the same time before recharge?
5. The E9 I use now has a cartomizer. My daughters who have the Smoke51 Trio have cartridges. After dealing with both I really like the carts better. I find them easier to re-fill and I can’t see ever having to buy them again since I can buy fluval or blue foam to use when the polyfill gets old whereas with cartomizers once the material needs replacing you must buy cartomizers. I realize I will have to buy atomizers with the carts but I would expect not to have to buy them as often as I would cartomizers if I keep them clean. Therefore my question is (finally), is there an atomizer that will fit the kr8 or is there an adapter to use the kr8 battery with the an atty (and which atty)?
6. I’ve heard that manual batts from 510 go off easily from movement or sound, do they also on the kr8?
7. And one last less important question, I don’t know what model the E9 from ........... is, but does anyone know if either the kr8 or the 510 are compatible with my E9 charger or carto’s?

Sorry for the long post. I seem to want everyone to know every detail to the point of ridiculous and even knowing I’m doing it, I can’t help myself!

Wow. Sorry you had to pay so much to start, but happy you found your way here. There are fans of the kr8 and the 510. Both are good for starting out. I personally like the 501 and it will be compatible with future eGo or riva batteries. I hear the kr8 standard battery lasts longer that the 510 but I don't know this from personal experience. Someone will be along shortly to let you know about compatibility. I mostly just wanted to welcome you and wish you and your daughters luck in you new vaping lifestyle. ECF peeps will be more than generous with the information you need and support as well. You are on the right track.

Welcome aboard! Manual batteries have a button and won't fire until you press it. It's the automatic batteries that had the nasty reputation of being activated by sound or wind. The 510's and the KR808's no longer have this problem because they use vacuum activation. They won't fire until you actually draw on them. I prefer manual batteries because they fire when you press the button, the batteries are sealed so you won't ruin the battery if you decide to try dripping, and you have more control over how you vape. Automatics sometimes require a couple of primer puffs before they work and dripping isn't recommended because there's a hole in the battery to sense when you draw. If juice gets in the hole it can ruin the battery.

I'm not really sure if the 510 and 808 batteries are the same size. If battery life is important to you then I would suggest getting the Mega size. I think the 808 Mega is a 380mah, which means it will last about 4 hours of constant vaping before it needs a recharge. It'll probably last longer unless it's plastered to your face! My eGo 900mah lasted longer than 9 hours and it was practically my pacifier for quite some time.

I don't believe that the 510 or 808 stuff will work with the D9 batteries. To the best of my knowledge they're proprietary. Personally, I think they're crap.

I think KR8 has more flavor than a 510 with carts but maybe cartos generally have more flavor than carts. For me, the KR8 also has a bigger hit.

mah is milliamp hours. I get about 3 hours out of a shorty (I don't vape constantly or heavily)

Joye 510 112mm long and battery life 180mah (closest to size of standard KR808D-1 and less battery life than it)
mega 510 is 280 mah, same as standard KR808D-1 battery
fat battery mod called Ego has a variety of longer life batteries (900mah and up I think)
Carts (standard) and blank cartos available, don't know about filled cartos except ones filled with the Chinese PG juice but maybe there are better filled ones

KR808D-1
Shortys, are 65mm, 180 maH 97mm with a cartomizer
Reg are 78mm, 280-300 maH 117mm with a cartomizer
ExLong are 102mm 380maH 137mm with a cartomizer
fat battery version Elegant Easy (mah not stated but probably in same ballpark as the Ego)
Cartos only and lots of filled ones available at V4L, blanks available
To use carts you need to add another model's atty. I put a 901 on (no adapter needed) - a bit airy but vapory and pleasant. With an adapter you could stick another similar diameter atty on it like a 510 if you wanted. Some 510 users actually put on KR8 adapter to KR8 cartos

What I did was try them both. I recommend you do the same. Like Vapor4life (KR808D-1) has some clearance batteries in a clearance section - about $12 for a battery and get a charger cable (USB to battery) and a sampler of cartos. For a Joye 510 (Joye so you don't get a bad knockoff), at Cignot you can get a small Joye 510 kit for $35
https://www.cignot.com/product_p/kit-510-nbx.htm

And I recommend these AC to USB chargers - 4 port and handles up to 2amps total so can charge 4 normal diameter batteries at once or run a passthru while charging 2 batteries.

If you are 1 1/2 pad smoker, you need a battery that lasts. Get the $30 510 Riva kit from Liberty-Flights and throw in a 5 pack of Boge 510 2ohm cartomizers. Total cost $38 plus $3 shipping. It is a bit larger than the 510 or KR808, but not nearly as large as the photos make them look.

Former 40 year pad Kool smoker.

Nice job by dormouse :) 808 = simpler if someone really doesn't feel like doing their own filling, as there are a wide range of prefilled cartomizers available for the KR808D-1. The 808 off-the-shelf is generally warmer, and with a longer lasting battery than the standard 510, due to Ohms law (higher 808 voltage under load) and the higher mAh rating.

On my Riva 510 (a 750 mAh unit, available for $30 after discount at Liberty Flights), to get the equivalent warmth of an 808 with standard 808 3 ohm carto I have to use a 2 ohm carto on the Riva 510.

For friends who are not tech oriented, want the bare minimum hassle, an 808 automatic battery starter kit and prefilled cartomizers is a good way to go. You can absolutely do things cheaper, net, with a Riva 510, but you will be pretty much starting from day 1 with a manual battery and having to load your own juice (it isn't hard, but there are definitely people who don't want to deal with juice). If a person is a fairly light smoker, the standard batteries are okay, while if they smoke pack a day range I recommend a kit with two of the so-called XL or Mega 808 batteries (the 380 mAh vs. 280 makes a real difference in run time between recharges).

If a person doesn't mind manual, doesn't mind filling their own, and smokes a pack on up per day, the Riva 510 or eGo is a nice choice, though there are large battery KR808D-1 also available. I would avoid a standard 510 unless a really light smoker or super concerned that the unit be cigarette size/shape, due to the short run time. The liberty flights Riva 510 starter kit at $30 comes in cheaper than most 510 standard kits, with 4X the mAh rating in a Riva battery compared to standard 510.

For the 510 family, many people like using atomizers and dripping, I like cartomizers, use a Boge 2 ohm cartomizer on a Riva. They hold around 1 ml of liquid, so I am not constantly filling or topping off with juice. This is absolutely a subjective area, as those who drip swear by it.

What great info all! Tyvvvvm.

It looks like the kr8 will be better for me, bc batt life is so important yet I really don't like cartomizers. I know what maybe be a miniority opinion since ppl seem to love them, but I really hate filling them. So I'm still torn between the longer batt life or the ease of cartridges. I think maybe I'll go 510 for when I want a slim feel and buy a mega batt and an ego battery to go with it just for when I need longer life.

Thnks for the info, I really had no idea what the diff batteries were or even what mah meant! lol

And Dormouse, thanks for taking the time for such an in depth reply! REALLY helped.

Thanks all!

Here is what you could* do. Electronic Cigarettes from Cigeasy - Home of the Easy E-Cigarette has a 750 MaH, and a 1300 MaH battery for all things kr808d-1. Also, 901 attys work great with that setup, if you are trying to avoid cartos. Great friggin setup IMHO. I think the startup stuff costs around $50-$60 range, but you get a 5 pack of high end cartos, 10ml ejuice and all the reguler shwag as well. Hooked me at least. Good luck and happy vaping!

I was just about to purchase the 510 from cignot when I found the Bloog MaxxFusion! Why? One reason. Its has taken me so long to choose because I've had 2 bad experiences (Smoke51trio and ...........) and don't want to again waste more money on something that doesn't work (literally the kits have all crapped the bed after 1 week) or something I'm not happy with. THen I saw the guarantee that if i don't love it i can return it!!! Most only offer that for defects and then its a pain (smoke51 will only replace with another crappy one, and e-cig has not answered my numerous emails). I was already deciding between a kr8 and 510 and later adding ego. From what I've read this is way better than 510 and the problem i had using cartos (flooding) won't happen this time. And I'll have a longer batt life now while still kicking the real habit and using a stick kind without having to wait to get the ego.

I do have only one concern. The batts do not come in manual and because I do have a hard time filling cartos I'm worried I'll burn the battery out by getting liquid in it. I really like manual buttons better.

I like the manual on the Kr808 because it seems like I get a better hit with it. The automatic seems a little weak. I also have a very long battery it seems, Mine is 112mm, 140 mm with cart rated at 380. I can usually last all day with it. I also read about the Bloog Maxxfusion and ordered it today. I don't feel so bad because it is compatiable with my 808 so the worse that could happen is having a couple of extra batteries lying around. My main thing is expermenting with flavors now. i don't think I could do the re-fill due to my eyesight and declining fine dexterity.
