So i've been vaping for 4 days now and I'm loving it. i want to get one for my father!!!
I have no idea what to get for him, because I'm pretty sure he's need are much different than that of mine.

i doubt he wants to get off the analogs, but I feel it's necessary. He smokes atleast 2 PAD, he's been smoking for atleast 22+ years and goes into nic fits after an hour of not smoking. I'm sure he'd want the TH and the most natural/easy e-cig. I don't know a whole lot about the different e-cigs, so if there's technical terms used, could they also be simplified.

E-cigs are great. 4 days strong!

What are you using? Do you think it would work for him? If he's a 2 PAD smoker he's going to need a PV with a big battery just to keep up with him. With a 510 he'll be changing batteries every 2 hours at least. An eGo or Riva would probably run about 4 hours or so but I don't know if the size would be an issue. You probably need to see if he's even interested in vaping before you spend any money. I'd suggest you try and get him to use yours to see if he likes the idea or not. Then you might be able to get some idea what his criteria would be if you decide to purchase one for him.

IMHO some mods can be too intimidating to new vapers. I still like to stick with the more mainstream models. I have heard very good reviews on the Riva (510 or 901) and will be ordering one in the next two days. Liberty-Flights has an extremely good deal on them right now. This one may be a good one to start him with then maybe move up to one of those expensive, sci-fi looking mods that everyone loves so much!

Well, if you don't know if he would like to try to vape, why don't you get him something really inexpensive.

If you go to liberty-flights.com, you can pick up a Riva pkg for 37.50, but with the 20% off coupon, you would pay only 30.00 + 2.99 S/H + the juices. If he doesn't like it, maybe he would pass it back to you.

What are you vaping on?

I'm a noob, but I've spent alot of time looking over mods and the two I would recommend would be the Reo Grande at reomods.com or Ali'i at rnrmanufacturing.com. Both are bottom feeders so he would not need to deal with carts, cartomizers, or dripping. Both have a catch cup so he would not have to worry about flooding the atomizer or not giving the atomizers enough juice. And from what I've read both are variable voltage devices so he could vape at 5volts which seems to be the sweet spot in terms of vapor, flavor, and throat hit. With either mod all he would have to do would be to screw on a bottle filled with juice, pop in a rechargeable battery and vape away all day until he ran out of eliquid or the batteries ran out of juice. Very low maintenance. The only problem is that both mods are in great demand and very hard to get a hold of.

thanks for the Suggestion folks. I'm using a vapor king short batts. I'm likin it alot, it's very simple. I'm diggin the usb passthrough? i think that's what it's called. but I don't know if the TH would be good enough for him? I hear that the nic level influences the TH, if that's the case i would prolly have to get the highest level. but yeah, I should prolly let him vap on mine a bit, although i'm only usin 18mg nic so he prolly wouldn't really get the effect he would need?

Care to elaborate on this for the guy who's been vaping for 4 whole days?

What are you using, Nova?

LOL... busted ! Although the sign up date may not directly reflect one's experience, "get a mod" is terrible advice for a person asking such a question.

I smoked about 3 packs a day and have found the smaller starter kits 510/KR8 etc to be grossly inadequate. I am sure it is posted somewhere but it should be in BOLD HUGE LETTERS when one comes here.

For a "devoted" smoker as you described you may wish to get something with a passthrough or a large 750+ mah battery. Passthrough gets charged directly so no battery charges etc to mess with and the 750+ mah batteries should last 6+ hours under real heavy usage conditions.

I have bought the ego and the Leo. The ego was such a pleasure after those tiny tinker toy models and the LEO is brand new an is supposed to be quite a monster. The Leo should arrive today or tomorrow.

Congratulations on your 4 days of being free from analogs, may it last a lifetime and may your father be successful as well :)

P.S. The device plays an important role, the juice is very important as is the nic content for TH. Please ask those more experienced for advice. My main point here is you want to present something to your father that will be "kick ..." industrial grade and not something that will fail, seem unreliable, weak or tinker toyish.

I know many may disagree with this, but I also have to agree, for a few reasons.

I have a friend who smokes, 65 yrs old and Is NOT techno savy in any way, shape or form.
Cannot turn on a computer, barely can use a cell phone, and does not own a camera and has a old analog tv..

She smokes over a pack a day. I cannot see her in any way, figuring out when and how to fill cartomizers, atomizers, dripping, changing batteries every few hours, cleaning etc.....

BUT...I do think that she could handle putting in a battery in the morning and a bottle of juice in a bottom feeder.
(Yes I know it's a LITTLE more than that but very teachable in my opinion)

So I am suggesting that some of those smokers out there, cannot and won't go thur what some of the vapers do as they are just not techno savy....for all the in's and outs that may come with average/popular PV's

I read this thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...130686-self-juicing-box-way-quit-analogs.html
and I have to agree with alot in it.

As always, one size does NOT fit all.
I am at the present time, trying to snag a ReoMini or Ali'l for me to use and to let her try.
Just my 2 cents worth.

And by the way....CONGRATS, and glad to see you are doing great!

Actually, the Leo is a pretty damn good PV. My friend has two of them and I've been using them here and there trying out different atomizers and juices. When I saw the pictures of it for the first time I laughed. I'm not laughing anymore. It really is a good device and so far has been very reliable...and my buddy beats the hell out of his equipment averaging 10-15ml a day. They are definitely not his sole device but are heavy in his rotation.

Welcome to the forum, NovaAndrew; and congratulations on 4 days of vaping.

I see from your posts that you seem to be enjoying the KR808, with automatic batteries (assumed), and probably cartomizers. I smoked for 45 years, and am now 60+ years old. If your father has smoked for 22+ years I suspect he's in his 40's...certainly not over the hill and unable to handle "techno" stuff, such as the e-cig.

I also smoked between 1-1/2 to 2+ PAD, and could have a nic fit within an hour...especially if I knew I couldn't exit to smoke one.

While a bottom-feeding mod may be the ultimate fix-all for someone who is making his own decision to quit/cut-down on smoking via vaping, I wouldn't recommend it as a gift to someone who may or may not be entirely receptive to vaping. In fact, if you seem to be happy with your choice (i.e., getting consistent, good vapor; relatively easy draw; decent throat-hit and your eliquid is a tobacco flavor) then I would recommend that you give him what you've got. He can make his decisions to go further or not from there. In fact, both of you could continue on your journey together, if it's in the cards.

Many people who start with one e-cig soon migrate to another once they've gotten over the initial learning curve. But going directly to a mod may just be too drastic of a change...even if in hindsight it might have been a good, and certainly cheaper, choice. I started with an NJoy NPro (RN4081), and quickly switched to a KR808. That didn't initially work for me...but that was two years ago. Things have changed a lot, and I am now using a Joye EGO with the standard, manual, 650mah batteries; and I go through about 2 batteries a day. However, many people do just fine with the KR808...especially since it primarily uses cartos.

So, just my opinion, but if you're happy, don't just assume he won't be, and don't jump the gun for him with a mod.

For a 2 PAD i'd reccomend a Janty Ego XL it's 900mah. The Riva which claims to be 750mah actually is really only 650mah and lasts the same time as a regular 650mah battery. Why Im such an advovate for Janty is because they have a warranty even on the atomizers so when something fails you they just send you another one and they can actually stand behind their warranty unlike most of the companies you will see on here. Well worth the buy.

Ah, the Reo Grand is NOT variable voltage in the strict sense of the word, but it can handle either 3.7, 6 or 7.4 v with battery combinations. A 18650 with a LR510 carto may be the way to go with a new guy, just make sure you can show him how to work it before he takes it off with him. That combo can easily get me through an entire vape filled day without having to carry spare supplies.

That said, if he doesn't want to vape....the old saying about leading a horse to water may come into play here. Unless he's ready to try giving up the analogs or look for an alternative, you're probably just wasting his time and unnecessarily aggravating him. Try figuring out the juice closest to what he likes and offer him some tokes of your mod first.

I'm just saddened by that. I had to watch my father die last April from COPD and a massive stroke, caused by his 2 PAD Winston habit 20 years after he quit smoking.

just my opinion, and what has worked for me. I was a 1 and 1/2 PAD smoker. I started out with one of the joye 510's and although it worked well the battery life was dismal , and i was constantly filling carts. I went back to analogs . determined to succeed I did some experimenting, and after a considerable amount of money spent, i ended up settling on a prodigy V3 6 volt tipped with the mega cartomizers from Nhaler. For me I believe psychologically it was the vapor production more so than the % nicotine content I was missing in the other products i tried. the V3 produces considerable amounts of vapor, although that is somewhat dependent on the juice being used. again just my opinion, but someone who is a heavy smoker, 1-2 PAD will probably have the best luck quitting with a mod.

I remember when I first started vaping to get off analogs cigs...I bet that I vaped through 4-5 prefilled cartomizers a day using a standard two piece design E-Cig by FUMA. I believe the highest strength nicotine cartridge was 16mg at best. This was barely doing it for me to stay off tobacco. I stumbled upon ECF while searching for better PV's....

Needless to say I have learned a lot the many hours, days and weeks I spent here researching before I realized just how much money I had wasted purchasing $15.00 5pk pre-filled carts!

I found vendors that offered lower priced carts to fit my vaping device and yes the passthrough was ultimately the greatest thing to me since sliced bread!:p

Now looking back in retrospect if I had known then what I know now:confused:confused:....I am now telling my friends and relatives whom have almost given up on electronic cigs to buy their own juice with various levels of Nicotine to suit their needs, load their own carts or atty's, Look for the longest lasting batteries...etc.

In short - There are many great vendors on this site that are very reputable and have very affordable starter kits. Some prefer the three piece models that allow the user to drip their own juices whenever needed. Other models being the cartomizer 2-piece designs are desired for even more simplicity as the user can fill several blank or reusable carts with their own juice of choice and just pop on a new cart right before the other one runs dry.

I think it would be a great idea to let your father try out your new toys first before jumping the gun and purchasing a kit for him. You may find a passthrough may not be the most practical item if he is not on a computer a lot or perhaps even consider some of the great 750mAh to 1300mAh devices out there that can go more than 8-12 hrs before they need a recharge?

Check out Cig Easy's link on forum...Since yoor already familiar with the KR808D-1 batteries...You can pick up a kit with a 750-1300mAh battery for less than $60 complete with prefilled carts and/or 10ml bottle of juice.

Vapor Nine is another good supplier with a similar model called The Defender that has also got some great reviews on this forum.

Regardless, many will agree or disagree with any advice you may get on here including my own.. though it is worth it to read as many reviews and personal experiences others have had on this forum regarding what ultimately worked best for them based on experience.

Good Luck with your quest for the perfect vape and props to you for thinking of finding a better alternative for your dad as well!
:)
