I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them --

I was using my USB PT (old-school one) and a window popped up saying something like, "This USB device is drawing too much power and has been shut down"... The draw that this happened with tasted really burnt, even though I has recently filled it. I removed the cart from the PT and attached it to a battery, but the cartomizer does not work. I'm assuming it's gone.

Question is, should I toss the PT and order a new one, or do you think it was just a cartomizer going bad?

Try a carto of a different flavor on the PT. If it does it again you can figure it is the PT. I realize you might be sacrificing a good carto. But that is better than wasting the $$$ on a new PT if it were to end up just being a bad carto.

If it does NOT do it on the carto of a different flavor, then you can deduct that it is the carto. Then you just need to figure out if it is the whole box of cartos of that specific flavor...or if it was just the one single carto that was bad.

Is it a new premium cart? If so, they will draw more current due to the lower impedance coil, which could have tripped your mac message and USB port shut off (love your avatar by the way). Born's right though, the fact your cart is burned should have no impact unless it catastrophically shorted out which is very unlikely. See if a vintage cart will work with the PT on the USB port and/or try another premium cart as suggested.

Mac...if you are using a mac desktop, the keyboard USB ports are a no-go. They arent powerful enough. Will work in the back plugs NO problem.

If you are using a powerbook, the USB on the right side is the one you do NOT want to use. The one on the left near the power supply always seems to work for me.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip on the left side USB port Born; I was well aware the keyboard ports were not powered, but thought the ports on my macbook pro were equal. I have been using the right side port, only had this happen once, but will switch over the left side on your advice.

BTW Mac, if you singed that cart you might as well toss it; it won't taste good after refill, don't waste the juice.

Regarding the carto, yeah it was singed and I tossed it.

Update -- The carto that singed was a "Cola - Premium" filled with Parlament Menthol. I just received my new juice order today and filled a "CMF - Premium" carto with CMF juice and "English Toffee - Premium" carto with White-choco Strawberry. Using each on the PT seems to be performing well.

It may have just been the cart.

Glad it worked out Mactrick. I noticed the Cola Premium carts I tried burned hot, tasted dry and a little harsh, and didn't last as long as others. I wasn't too impressed with the new Cola, and probably won't be ordering those again. No complaints on the other prem carts though. Good luck, feel free to keep us posted on how things are going for you.
