My mom is 87, almost blind and in a nursing home. I am not a smoker and never have been, so I don't have a clue how to get her started with e-cigarettes. We have tried to get her to quit and she did for four weeks in the hospital, but she has smoked almost 65 years and has had so much taken from her, I am hoping e cigarettes will give her more freedom. She was smoking about a pack a day, they will take her to the smoking room after each meal and she will have 1 or 2. Social services has suggested e-cigarettes because she can keep them in her room and use them whenever. We feel like she will have more independence. Currently smoking Pall Mall, the red ones, before that was Tareyton 100.

Where do I begin? My siblings and I are all willing to buy these for her and make sure she always has them, but I don't have a clue. My nephew's wife smokes and did buy her one to try, but the package is gone, so I don't even know what brand, etc... I want to get her started out right, so I would love some input.

Thank you so much.

Nanc

A good place to learn everything you need to know (and then some) is The Vaper's Handbook. The Vaper's Handbook is my blog that contains over 9 months of research that I wrote to help beginners, and even experts, find out the details that random shoppers can't find on the vendors' webpages. It's like taking a mechanic with you when you go to buy a used car.

Click on the link in my signature and learn everything you need to know to help you improve your mother's quality of life.
I wish you both the best of luck.

I think an automatice would be the way to go. I'd also recommend Smokelss Image automatics, which come in the smaller ciggish sizes but also larger sizes that last longer between charges, and may be easier for her to hold. Pic below, click on it for a bigger view:

SI comparison.jpg

All of those batteries can be bought as automatics. The 78mm smaller one is 320 mah and lasts about 2.5-3.0 hours of actual use. The three bigger ones are 650, 900, and 1300 mah. 100 mah = about 1 hour vaping time. Then it's just a matter of putting on a cartomizer.

Coupon codes if you're interested:
10VOLTECF for 10% off entire purchase
CompareOur808d for 15% off cartomizers only

I've used the smaller autos and they work well - good vapor and throat hit. My larger ones are manuals, but I've read plenty of reports from people who use the autos and they work well too.

No offense, but I can't believe people are recommending someone that's almost blind and in a nursing home getting a KR808.

Has anyone ever visited a nursing home? Who's going to charge mini batteries and fill cartos for this poor woman? Unless she's going to have a daily visitor to take care of her vaping supplies, she needs to be setup for a few days.

I made my suggestion based on the idea that her daughter could prefill the cartomizers for her. Or she could buy prefilled. Also, 808 batteries are not all minis. She could get a couple of 1300 mah. Her daughter could charge one while she uses the other. From the OP I had the impression she wouldn't vape for 13 hours a day so a 1300 automatic would easily last her through the day. I also noticed that her daughter does give her help.

KR808 big batteries have been out for quite a while now. No offense, but folk do need to stop assuming 808s are all minis.

If she gets a mod who is going to check the battery on a multi meter for her? Same principle.

That's why I suggested something like the Boge with a 1400 mah battery and it holds 10 ml of liquid. A few smoke breaks a day, that should last her a good long while until someone comes to visit to charge her battery. Doesn't have to be that one but something that doesn't need to be charged or filled frequently. Who knows where the outlets are? If she was that nimble, she probably wouldn't be in a nursing home.

I'm not making a judgement call on anyone especially the OP. I had a family member in a nursing home. I was in a position that I was able to visit very frequently but I was the exception. Lots of family members don't live close, or work and can't visit frequently. It might be days or a week before someone can help her. I lose my own pv all day. Someone that can't see well, I wouldn't get something small. The boge is big with a wrist strap. I'd buy my grandmother things and they'd be gone the next day. Something big with a strap, she can hold onto.
