New to building coils. Have limited tools and need advice based on the resources I have.

I have 26 gauge kanthal and a 1/8" screwdriver. I'm looking for around a 1.2 ohm build for my rda...if possible. I used a coil calculator and it spit out a 17/16 wrap dual coil build which sounds like a pretty extreme amount of wraps to me. If I sound ignorant, I apologize. Please dumb yourself down.

Thanks in advance

Hummmmm,

Yup, Isn't going to work...plain and simple. (that is the simplistic answer).

Reason: Gauge of wire is to low, too many wraps pulling high amp draw.
Solution: Increase the Gauge of the wire and decrease the wraps, you could as well try a micro spaced coil (leave small spaces between wiring).
Read up on oHm's law and understand why this won't work, there are several issues you have with that build beside length and number of wraps. I'm more then sure that someone here will post the answer but I'm not one. I'd say do a few things.

Mentioned read up on oHm's law
Find a good oHm calculator (there are several freely available on-line)
Meet up with someone locally who is well versed in building RBA's
Be safe at all times when doing so following basic safety guidelines (If you don't know them, there are several threads dedicated to it on ECF).

That's about all the advice I've got for you, the path to learning is an adventure of many wonders, enjoy it because once you get to the destination you can never take this trip again.

I was playing around with the coil calculator and it looks like I can get .5 ohms with a 7/6 wrap dual coil build. However I don't understand leg length, so I'm not sure if that would have a large impact if it came out different when it's built.

Can anyone confirm that this would work?

In the second picture, you need to put in the watts: 4 x 4 / 0.5 = 32 watts
when you put in the watts, it will show the temperature; red is too hot, blue is too cold, and green is good.

if you just start off with a 30 or 28 gauge things would go a lot faster;
and if you start off with a regulated mod, things would also go faster.

Rat2chat2 - That spreadsheet helps a ton. Thank you!

edyle - Thanks for the tip about the coil calc. I entered the wattage and it was green. So I guess it's safe to say that build would work. I'm going to order some 28/30 gauge today based on what i'm hearing. I will also take a look at regulated mods, I'm going to need one for the Kanger Sub tank mini I have on the way anyways. Using my mech mod with it...controlling the wattage by monitoring how charged my battery is just doesn't seem ideal. Any suggestions on a good box mod to get?

I don't know which RDA you have but most will accept a single coil build in which is my preference, is there a reason you have to have a dual coil ?

No good reason. It's just what my local vape shop started me out with. I will try a single coil and see how that works with my RDA and airflow.

I don't have any box mods.
I'm liking the versatility and interoperability of tube mods for the moment.

But maybe you'd want to look at the sigelei 100watt.

Other than that there's the lower cost options like the istick fixed battery system,
then there's the dna30 type mods, and recently the dna40.
there's a 260w crazy box.

but for reputation I'd say you'd be safe with sigelei.
Right now I'm vaping on my old sigelei zmax and while initially I used to get low load error problems which is something that tends to happen because of 510 connector issues but I fixed that with a beauty ring, this thing is just going strong, no hiccup.
