I have never used an 801 before (was a dyed-in-the-wool 510 user). I am trying to go by the dripping instructions for an 801, which was given in another post....it said 4-6 drops every 4-5 draws. My problem is- when I use 4 drops, I get a REAL BAD burnt taste. When I use 5 drops, it floods my atomizer, which is a brand new PS atomizer.

Also, the draw is super hard- like trying to suck mud through a straw...and the atty keeps getting hot. What am I doing wrong?

P.S.- from what I AM able to get from it, I think I like the 801 Prodigy better than the 510.

Hi Deeanne, Try blowing your atty out and start again. It sounds like you may be getting the primer taste from the atty. Does your atomizer sizzle a bit?

After you blow it out, (hold over a paper towel and blow on the battery end) drip a couple of drops and hit it a couple of times, dont hold the button down too long. Repeat this process. I found that it takes a bit for the atty to break in. If the atty gets hot, stop for a bit and try hitting it again. Try a couple of short hits without the mouthpiece. Just draw on the attomizer.

The atty should not draw that hard, the first one I got did the same thing, like mud through a straw. Had to send it back.

Do you have another atty to try on it? It is my experience with the prodigy that you need to keep a couple of attys on hand as spares. I switch between 2 attys. When one is not in use, I turn it upside down in a shot glass with a paper towel in the bottom.

Good luck, after a bit of use, you will love it! Tons of vapor, a great throat hit and great taste!

Thanks PuffinStuff,

I will try what you suggested. I am not tasting the primer as much now, and what has me confused is that I can take a draw now...and it is easy to draw, then my next draw is super hard. I noticed that I can "loosen" the atty a little, and it improves the draw, but then it starts filling the well with juice- so that I have to take it apart and clean it out.

I do have a second, new PS atty I can try, but EEEEWWWW- having to clean the primer out again 8-o

I use the 801 Prodigy and after getting rid of the initial primer taste, I only drip 2-3 drops on the coil. When I have done 4-5, I usually get leakage around the adapter threads and the atomizer. This will make the draw hard and ineffective.

I have found that these sponge sticks work perfect for cleaning excess juice around the 801 adapter and the atomizer threads. Plus you can rinse them and reuse. I got them at Hobby Lobby in the chalk and pencil painting section:

Also, the BE112 atomizer (801 compatible) is the best for dripping with the Prodigy. You can get them from http://www.bestecig.com/products.asp?bid=1&sid=3 for about $4 each.

Thanks Wv2win...I have given it a few more "cleaning" puffs to clear the rest of the primer out. I am getting more vapor, and the draw is a little better. I think it wasn't broken in good- plus I think my homemade juice made it worse. I made a 50/50 juice with the Lorann rootbeer flavor, and I noticed that my juice is darker than the coffee flavor, and a little thick.

How many draws can you get out of 2-3 drips?

Hi D. I read somewhere that the sweet juices with loranns can plug your atty. You might want to mix your juice a little leaner.

With a new atty, I put in 2 or 3 drops, hit it a few times and you will need more juice. I get about 6 - 8 puffs. Depending on how you vape can make a difference.

Do you have any other juice you could try? Dilute it down a bit and try your other atty and see what happens. Start with 2 or 3 drops.

Hi all,

I tried blowing out the atty and trying again...got one draw on it, then it got hard to draw again. Got out my other new atty, did Puff's primer cleaning advice, and this atty is working like a charm. I don't know if the first atty is bad, or if my juice has gummed it up. The juice is thin enough to drip, but it is SOOOOO dark...and leaves a kind of "coating" on the side of the bottle when you tip it.

I am using a different juice on this other atty, I am afraid to use my juice again ( it was a 50/50 PG/VG mix). I might thin it down some before I try it again.

Has everyone given up on using a cartridge with the 801, cuz they stink, mine always leak, and never seem to get good draw out of them, Is the best way for the 801 just the drip. IF that is the ticket, thats fine with me. I just cant seem to get the cartridge to work with the 801, tried fluval, tea bags, etc. Nothing gives a solid great vape every time, using it on a passthrough.

Hey Vaporich!

I have always used carts up until now. They said the Prodigy is a dripping
machine, so that is what I am trying. So far I drip it using just a mouthpiece, and I have tried tailpiping...both work great- without the hassle of cart fillers.

I noticed on my 510, when I use the 901 whistle tips...they started leaking, especially using PTB.

Thanks everyone for all of your help. I finally got the first atty working right. Come to find out, it was SUPER flooded.

I read another post that mentioned hard draw and bad taste. They recommended blowing the atty out, turning it upside down on a paper towel, and then blowing it out every few minutes- and replacing it on the towel. I did that with this atty, and you wouldn't BELIEVE the juice that came out. I put it back on the Prodigy, put in 3 drops, and now she is vaping away with an easy draw.:D

I did notice though, that when I release the button, the atty continues to hiss for a second longer, but I guess that is normal.
