Hi all, me again.

I've been having issues for a few weeks now so sorry if i'm boring you but this forum has been very supportive and helpful and I appreciate your help.

Here goes.

SETUP:

Coolfire 4 Subtank Mini 50/50 juice 1.2ohm Square Kanger Coils.

So i'm on my second batch of 5 coils in 2 weeks, and much of that 2 weeks I spent on my old pen style basic vaper because it worked and the stm and 1.2s just fail every time.

Why are the coils so crap?

I'm poking a hole right through the sides on recommendation to allow for better wicking.

I'm letting it sit for a good 20-30mins before vaping.

I'm then taking the first hit on a new coil at 10w as opposed to my normal 15-17w.

BURNT EVERY TIME.

Now I know the kanger coils are hit and miss and I simply don't know how they can get away with mass producing and seemingly no quality control as there are enough posts about bad coils to bring a lawsuit, however I refuse to beleive I'm being that unlucky with the last 10 coils.

Now I have been told by a few people the now old square coils were/are garbage and the newer smaller rounder SSOCC 1.2s are the way forward, but please take a minute to read the reviews on the bottom of this link...

Kanger SSOCC (Stainless Steel Organic Cotton Coil)

(if link not showing go to the kangeronline site and find the "NEW SSOCC" coils from the wholesale/coil dropdown menu.

Although i'm yet to order these new rounder ones I'm hesitant to give kanger any more of my money because it seems there is nothing but problems with any coil they produce.

I don't have the know-how, patience nor time to build my own and am happy to use disposables if I can get them to work.

I'm getting so impatient with the whole vaping thing.

I started almost 4 months ago and haven't touched a real cig in all that time. I started at 24mg 50/50 and I'm now down to 12mg and my latest order was 12mg and a few 6mg to take the next step down. All 50/50 juice.

I'm seeing many problems with kanger lately but I'm not willing to ship more money on another product. I took my time picking the STM and based on feedback and reviews decided it was the best option for me at the time and I did get off to a good start with the 1.2 coil it came with and the first few of the box of 5 I ordered.

I'm at my limit so any direction/guidance/help would be greatly appreciated.

What am I doing wrong?

Which coils should I use? (i was told the new round ssocc were a massive improvement but just look at those reviews).

Thank you for reading and in advance thanks for any input.

Are you Sure you are purchasing Authentic Kanger coils?
Honestly, I rarely ever have an issue with any of their coils and I have used most of the Tanks they released up through the Subtank mini.

If you are Burning through Coils at Low wattage.................you CoolFire may have a issue. If the Coil is burning, the Vape should be rather hot.
Or you are drawing to light to feed the wick. - close air flow some to increase vacuum to draw liquid to wick.

10 watts on a Subtank should be a cool vape.
I have the wifes 1.5ohm coil set to 14W because she likes a cooler vape. I tested it at 20w and bump it to 20 on refills to clear the coil, then reset for her.

Did you prime the coils as per instructions that should've came with every coil pack and the tank itself? Like literally pouring liquid on the openings of the coilhead and maybe even go as far as to soak the coilhead itself in a shotglass of the liquid you are going to use?

Firing a dry/non-primed coil at 10W will result in burning the cotton, thus making the coilhead "used" giving you a burnt taste every time you try and vape.

My first suggestion would be to check what voltage the mod is firing at with a multimeter or checking the screen and before that, priming the coils extremely well.

As far as authenticity goes, if there's a scratch sticker on the box, you can use that to verify the authenticity on Kangertech website.

I've used Kanger subtank mini with 0.5 coils for, like, forever now. No problem at all. Each coil last me at least 1-2 weeks, depending on the juice. This time it's been over 2 weeks now, no problem at all.
I'm looking into the SSOCC & Ni200 and thinking of ordering them next.

Thanks for replies.

I am using genuine kanger coils as the code checks out each time.

I did try dripping some drops right inside of the new coil as advised on a different post but when I come to drawing I just get a mouth full of the liquid.

I have the STM on the tightest airflow as I like a tight mtl draw and I get a warmish vape at 15w, slightly cooler at 10w obviously when I am breaking it in.

May have to try the new SSOCC's but those reviews put me right off.

My only other thought is, try turning the wattage up more. It is possible that it's not firing hot enough and thus you're just cooking the juice on the coil instead of getting much vapor.

Or the tank itself could have a short somewhere.

To be honest I've gone through boxes of kanger coils and I've only gotten two or three bad ones. Also, while I'm being honest, i rarely drop wattage down to prime a new coil. Habit I guess from mech mods because they don't have power adjustment lol.

I've gone through three boxes of occ coils for the subtank in the past few weeks. I've had the tank for almost a year now but I didn't take it seriously until now. Three weeks no cigarette!

But yeah I know what you mean. For me the burnt taste doesn't take like a dry wick, it's almost like the coil is bunk. I remember when the flavor was excellent and the coils lasted for weeks. Now lately it's like I have to change every other day to keep a consistent flavor and smoke production. Not to mention the constant spitting and flooding I get every single time I have to refill (which is at least three times a day).

Nevertheless, I've gone ahead and ordered a uwell crown, since I heard build quality is very high in both the tank and the coils. I'm purchasing one more single coil for the subtank and hopefully that should do it until it comes in the mail.

    Start at lower watts.

New coils can take some time to break in.

I am surprised since I have had a sub and a mini for a year and never had that experience. While that doesn't help your problem, just a couple guesses/suggestions.

I have enough tanks that I can let the tank sit overnight after priming and installing a new coil. The only other thing is if you can prime and install a new coil and try it on a different mod, maybe even if it means going to a shop if you have one nearby. It just sounds like there is something weird going on.

Good luck and hope you get it figured out.

Thanks mate. I don't really understand what is happening. From what I can gather these new ssocc coils are a real hit and miss. Only one or two out of every pack I buy seem to be doing the trick. I talked to my local vape shop and he said it could just be a couple of bad batches. But imo 75 bucks in coils in three weeks is nuts. So I'm looking for alternatives.

Edit: I went in to evape to pick up a new coil and the guy there asked me if I wanted to try the Clapton coil. Intrigued, I bought one and I'm currently using it. Screwing it in to the base and putting the base back on was a ....., probably the ridiculously oversized o-ring inside the coil. As for flooding/spit back I haven't experienced any yet. This may just be my prayer answered in disguise.

One thing I'm noticing with the Clapton Vs the ssocc, it takes a bit higher wattage to burn. Before I was sticking in the 18.8 - 20 range with the ss (anything above 23 was a burnt taste), but now I'm going into the 25-30 with ease. I'm still only half a tank in but it seems to be working quite well. No spitting, no dry burnt hits, and the vape is nice and warm. Flavor is still working its way in but I'm sure it'll be nice and tasty by my next refill. Give it a shot and see for yourself!
