I recently built a dual coil set up on a tobh atty v2 clone by infinite. I followed steam engine's website and did a 12 wraps of 26awg which gave me 0.65ohm on my reader. threw it on my ipv mini but i am not getting that much vapor production and for some reason the juices taste kinda harsh. Im getting a lot more vapor out of my re-built atlantis coil with 24awg and ... cotton. Any ideas on what could be happening? thanks guys

Also, what is the juice you are using? Is it a 50/50 PG/VG or higher in VG? What are you using for a wick? How much wick are you using? Sorry for all the questions but these can also determine the kind of clouds you get on your atty.

50/50 juice and im using ... cotton. im still trying to figure out how much is too much cotton or too little

Don't give up on it yet. Try a single coil first.
Don't be afraid to bend those coil legs ( kinda L shaped ) to get the coil positioned as close to deck edge and air flow height as possible.
Those coil legs don't have to be the exact same size.....make it sit where you want it to sit.
Less cotton is better in my opinion and I always make sure it has not blocked airflow under the coil. Hope that helps a little......keep trying it gets easier.
For me tighter airflow and 1.0 ohm coil gives me the best flavor.

Let me make sure I understand:

A dual coil netting 0.65 ohms of 26 gauge powered at 15 watts?

That's 1.3 ohms worth of 26 gauge, a fairly hefty amount of wire. There is no way that it can be reasonably powered by 15 watts.

If I do understand correctly, either:

1) Bump up the wattage to 30, 35+ to heat all that metal
2) Use only 8 or so wraps instead of 12, and you'll still probably need to up the wattage
3) Use a higher gauge (thinner diameter) wire like 28 or 30 gauge.

I personally don't see 6mg/ml juice giving you any issues at 15 watts, but more VG is generally smoother.

Also, if it's harsh and there's very little vapor, that's a good sign your coils should be closer to the air intake, or there isn't enough air.

I have to build my tobh way off center so that the coils aren't in front of the AFC tabs. It's pretty annoying.

I'd probably run the .65ohm coils of 26ga closer to 30w. Thicker/Lower Gauge wire take longer to heat because there is less resistance/friction per inch. I cant see this causing harsh flavor though.. seems like the vapor would just be anemic.
8 wraps of 28ga on 3/32 drill bit (~2.4mm) should give you a 1.4-1.5 ohm coil. using this higher gauge wire will heat quicker and more intensely.

Having fewer build options on the tobh is one downside to it, though many cut off the AFC tabs. When I build I set the coil right next to the AFC tab, which isnt terribly difficult to do as that is close to where the coil naturally wants to sit on a 3 post RDA. I keep the coil over the juice well, but about as close to the edge of the deck as it will go. I angle the coil so that both sides sit about the same distance from the air flow in the top cap. Lastly, I position the coil a bit higher off the deck, so when you put the top cap on and look at the coil through the airflow holes you can see the bottom 1/3-2/3 of the coil, so when you take a puff off the RDA air will be encouraged to circulate under and in front of the coil, exposing it to fresh air, creating more vapor.

Maybe it is cotton that is irritating you? have you tried rayon, silica, ReadyXWick or something other than organic cotton?

I just thought about the cotton , I bought it through ebay ( might have not been the smartest choice). Anyone knows where i can get organic cotton locally?
