Hi there!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

So I think I want to try and get my dad off cigarettes by buying him a vaping starter kit for Christmas.

I've been looking at the EVOD 2 kit and it looks decent. My dad is a simple man. He doesn't even own a cell phone and dislikes complicated things, and just wants them to work. So I was hoping to get him something with minimal maintenance and fuss (such as gurgling and leaking and tanks cracking), and will work for a good while. I myself use an iTaste SVD and love the variable voltage. Hard to see a decent vape unit not having one so I don't know.

Any suggestions? If it's less than $50 on ebay or something that would be ideal.

Thanks guys.

Hi,

The EVOD 2 kit appears to me as a good place to get your dad started on his vaping journey.
- The Dual-Coil heads are quite good, and I've found they last a long time in my T3'D (I puff a few tanks on that a day).

Combined with a tobacco flavoured liquid, your dad would be off to a good start :)

I tried getting my parents to switch to eGo-T's, but apparently they were lacking throat hit from the single coils in those sets and the kits quickly got put in the cupboard (Unfortunately)

If I was to get them to change again, I would also get something like the EVOD kit, as it could possibly give the kick they needed to ki9ck the analogs.

Remember to get him a good supply of a quality liquid, so he won't have to chase that to keep getting his Nic.

Um...less than fifty does not leave much wiggle room...at all lol, but basic evod starter kits are a good place to start. I will not say they are low maintenance with no gurgling or cracked tanks...that really depends on how rough your dad is with stuff...

Really? I was also thinking about just getting an ego twist and pop a kanger tank like the aero mini on there with the updated dual coil heads. All in all...

ego twist 1300 mah with charger: $17
aerotank mini: $23
updated 1.8 ohm dual coil 5 pack: $10

I guess the eliquid would be the only extra cost i didn't account for. But I figured as much.
Would this setup be doable and better? or am I missing a better budget alternative? My dad isn't the kind of guy to upgrade to newer models of things. He usually likes to get one thing and stick with it. He had the same super old CRT tv until it died a few years ago.

You will most likely need to batteries if your Dad is going to quit smoking. Ego type batteries should not be left charging overnight or when someone is not around to disconnect them from the charger when they are done charging.

Just an FYI, the mini Aerotank only holds 1.3mls of eliquid. The regular Aerotank, 2.5mls.

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day:

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

Awe man. Now I miss my Evod 2's lol. The Evod 1 and 2 starter kits are where I started. Both are pretty hassle free. Though the dual coils in the 2's suck up a lot of juice and the tanks are pretty small. The 1's have the around the same capacity but go through it slower thanks to the single coils. There's a few ways you can go here. Kanger is selling blister starter packs for super cheap with 1 tank and 1 650mah battery and a charger. KangerTech eVod Blister Pack - Sun-Vapers.com
That may be a cheap way of finding out if he likes it.
An evod 1 starter kit is still pretty cheap too.
Kanger Evod Starter Kit - Mt Baker Vapor - Electronic Cigarettes

If you're going to go the evod 2 route, I highly recommend the glass version. This may cost a bit more, but you won't have to replace the tanks when they break. And with plastic tanks, it's not if they break, it's when. Considering how many plastic tanks i've had crap out on me, getting the glass version would have saved me quite a bit of money lol.

hmm, the minimum I recommend to vape curious would be like the Innokin VV3 or mpv with like an aspire atomizer, or something similar. And yeah, a spare batt would be a good idea.

Would first talk to him, and casually ask or mention about e-cigs, and that many find it an excellent way to stop smoking but continue to enjoy a puff/vape, and get their nic too.

It would be better if you had a friend with you that happened to vape, so they could demonstrate what vape is all about. But heck, one can give it a shot, wouldn't be the first time someone was dissatisfied with a Christmas present. :D

Good luck and all, tis a lovely idea. But success is highly dependent on your father.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!

You have a decent starter kit layed out there by all means...I just can not remember the last time I paid that little for a whole set of something (I have been on APV's for quite a while now lol) and as far as "not so hassle free" on my part I work in a B and M and I feel like I spend alot of time walking people through set ups and cleaning contacts and trying to get people to not OC their little beginner batteries and yeah...noobs need ALOT of attention in the beginning...no offense, just pointing it out that you may be asking for it if he the "no hassle" kind of older guy and feels that his cigs are just easier but your intentions are great and I wish you the best of luck with him and I still say your starter list is a good one for him...to start with at least lol

Your idea is a good one. Another would be the eleaf istick with a collection of throw away ego tanks. Personally when I stopped smoking a pack a day, I needed to start with 36mg, but to each their own.

Same here, when I started over two years ago I thought the higher nic was all I would ever use (36mg lol) but for almost two years I have been on mods and sub ohming so yeah...went from 36mg to now 3mg, with my setups though not many people can even handle much more than 3mg...In alot of ways I really wish someone would have told me to just start on a mod and never waste my time and money on the cheaper starter kits...

When dealing with the eGo style batteries, it's always best to have two, so when one is on the charger, you can still use the other without having to wait for things to get charged up.

If you are looking for something easy to use, nice thick "smoke", and on the inexpensive side, check out the V2 Pro. I smoked for thirty years, at a pack a day(at least). The V2P is my first e-cig and has really worked for me. Also, even though I'm a total noob at this, I find it easy. He's going to need at least 24mg to start of with. It's a little more than $50 but, it's a great price for all that it does.

PS I hear the V2 Tobacco flavor is pretty good.

I've been vaping for a while, and really haven't kept up on 'latest & greatest' starter kits. So I'll stay out of that.

However I'm 73 years old and wrap my own coils & DIY my own liquids, and my suggestion is to NOT make the mistake of selling us old farts short. You should expect your dad to go through the same learning progression as you did. So what worked for you will probably work for him.
