I am thinking about trying my hand at DYI. I'm new to vaping in general, and my set-up is a KGO with Boge 2.0 ohm LR cartos and Smoketech XL 1.7 ohm LR cartos.

My current liquid's of choice are Alienvisions Boba's Bounty and Gorilla Juice, which are both obviously VG, but seem to work well in the cartos on my KGO. I also like the 80/20 blends I have tried from Bluemist vaping.

What I am looking to do is make some juice in the 12-18% nic range, and I am hoping to do it with VG.

Is there some advice to be given for doing VG blends that work well in cartos (like AVE Juice), and have decent throat hit (like AVE Juice).?

Or would I be better off trying a blend of PG/VG?

Again I am totally a newb and plan to ask my questions on this thread. I thank you all in advance for all replies.

Also, I am thinking of going with Wizard Labs for my nic base and VG and/or PG. The reviews seem to be really positive. Other vendors out there that might be just as good or better ?

I use wizard labs for my DIY. They have great quality products IMO and the prices are great. I can't think of his name (John I think) but he is great to work with. He will personally answer any questions you have and will help to point you in the direction of what you will need to get started. He usually throws in a couple freebies too. It's driving me crazy that I can't think of his name.

When you make 50/50 blends, do you use VG or PG Nic solution?

Would a recipe somethis like this work:
-36mg VG nic juice
-PG solution
-Flavoring
-10ml bottle

4.5 ml of 36mg Nic juice, 4.5 ml of PG, 1 ml of flavoring. Would this get me into the realm of something about 16mg and vapeable?

To get a 16mg 50/50 mix in a 10ml bottle with 10% (1ml in this case) flavoring, you would need:
- 4.44ml VG nic
- 4ml PG
- .56ml VG
- 1ml flavoring

This accounts for the PG in the flavorings, thus the odd looking numbers. It's a perfectly vapable mix, depending on the flavorings. Some are weaker and some are stronger. You may or may not want to adjust the flavoring as you go, but 10% is a good starting point.

The eJuice Me Up calculator is your friend. I recommend you go download it. Punch in the relevant percentages and numbers and hit calculate. It'll do the math for you and tell you how much of what you need.

Wizard Labs has been my diy supplier for nic and pg/vg. I buy my nic in pg, and dilute it to a 50/50 mix of pg/vg at a nic level I feel safe working with. I then use e Juice Me Up to calculate the amounts of nic base, pg, vg, flavoring, and thinner (I use vodka) for my specific mix. It all works very well! Other suggestions: use syringes with blunt, 16 or 18 gauge needles to measure. Much easier than using graduated cylinders or beakers, and much more accurate than using drops. Forget about the pipettes - they are a pita! With Capelas, I use around 12-15% for most flavors. I would recommend starting at around 10%, and see how you like it. Start with small (5 ml) tests, and go from there. Good Luck, and Have Fun!

I use cartos and VG. I thin my VG with distilled water so that I end up with 85% VG/15% DW. It's been my experience that the real carto-killer isn't the VG though; it's the flavoring. Darker flavors and flavors that you have to use a higher percentage of will kill your cartos MUCH faster than clear flavors used at a low %. Of course, the problem is that some of those dark flavors are soooo good, so I try to save those for treats and not use them all day, every day.

Edited to add: I've used Wizard Labs and My Freedom Smokes for nic and they're both good. Sign up for their emails at My Freedom Smokes, since they have great sales all the time.
