After doing a ton of reading I'm pretty settled on going with a RIVA 510. There have been quite a few suggestions about getting one from Liberty Flights because of the October discount. Before I finalize the order I was hoping to get some input on whether I'm forgetting anything or if anyone has had any experience with their juice. I'll probably start shopping around on different sites as I get more into this, but for now I'd rather just order the essentials from one site for convenience.

Here is what my order looks like so far:

1x RIVA 510 (Lite bundle)

  • 2 x 750mAh Battery
  • 1 x 510 Atomizer
  • 1 x 510 Low Resistance Atomizer
  • 1 x USB Fast Charger
  • 1 x USB Mains Plug (US)
  • 10 x Blank Carts
  • 1 x Atomizer Cone
2x 510 Atomizers
1x 510 Cartomizers (5-pack)
1x Delrin Drip Tip (to experiment)
4 or 5x 5ml E-juice (undecided flavors)

Does this look like a reasonable starting order? Does anyone have any comments on their juice? I'm coming off of ultra-light menthols after about 15 years (between 1/2 & 3/4 of a pack a day) so I'm primarily interested in their menthol flavors.

Thanks for your time :)

Your order looks good to start. The extra attys, cartos and drip tip are all good items. The only other thing I could/would suggest is a USB pass-through, and that is if you intend vaping at your computer, or even for long road trips in your car. Saves you using up the batteries on the Riva itself.

As for juices, I can't provide any feedback there since I don't use LF's juices.

Enjoy!

I only see one thing in your order that may need some revisiting. I see you ordered extra atomizers, so that tells me you are going to use the riva as a three piece device...that is: the battery, the atomizer, and the cartridge (that fits in the atomizer). But then I see that you ordered "cartomizers" ...but not extra "cartridges" for you atomizers. As a newbie, you may be confused on this. Cartomizers have the atomizer "built in"...you will not need a separate atomizer if you use cartomizers. You CAN use the Riva with either the cartomizer system...or the atomizer/cartridge system....no problem...but not together at the same time. So if you plan to use the Riva (as it comes in the kit) with a separate atomizer and cartridge, then you may need more empty (aka blank) "cartridges" to use with your atomizers. (altho I see now that there are 10 with the kit, that should be enough to start, nevermind)

That said, I would still keep the "cartomizers" (the one piece combo) in your order. That way you can try both systems and see what works best for you. I use my Riva with just cartomizers as I prefer the ease of a two-piece system and like that I have to refill less often. Cartomizers hold more juice than cartridges. They are also less messy. Just my personal preference, one is not better than another. Some people prefer using cartridges and the separate atomizer system. My question to you is this: do you understand the difference between a "cartridge" and a "cartomizer"? Most newbies are very confused on this in the beginning, I know I was.

So my recommendation is to keep the cartomizers in your shopping cart so you can try them.

You will definitely need juice. Take a stab at it, you have to have something to start in your first order. A couple of small bottles will do. Try a 1 or 2 tobacco flavors and 1 or 2 non-tobacco flavors. They may not end up your favorites...but you will have something to get you going while you learn to use the equipment. If you like coffee, start with a cappuccino or coffee flavor. 18mg is a good strength to start at for a newbie. I smoked a filtered, mild strength analog when I smoked...and I liked LFs tobacco flavor called "Churchill" (aka "Winston"). A nice mild tobacco taste with no added sweetness. Or "USA tobacco" also good. Later on you will find yourself experimenting with more non tobacco flavors (even tho you swear you won't LOL). Then go to a site like Vapor Stations...they have a sample kit that is $25 for 10 samples. All their tobacco flavors are great. Hope this helps!

Yes I understand the difference. My reason for ordering both kind of matches your suggestion for trying out the different methods. I figured 5 atomizers with 10 blank carts would cover the 3 piece setup, a pack of cartomizers for 2 piece, and the drip tip would allow me to experiment with dripping. Hopefully this would give me an idea of which method is the most comfortable for future orders.

After smoking ultra-light menthols for so long, I'd probably be more interested in a sweet, minty juice rather than tobacco. However, it sounds like it takes quite a while to find that "perfect combination" :)

Thanks for the suggestions salliezoo!

Aloha Deftech...well I guess I told you WAY more than you needed to know. I just always assume that every newbie starts out like the village idiot I was when I started LOL! You definitely are way ahead of the game with your current knowledge. Several sites have some great menthol and minty flavors. Check out Tasty Vapor and FreedomSmokesUSA. I don't think Vapor Station has too much along those lines except "New York" (tastes like a chocolate mint patty), "Berry Mint",
"Banana Mint" and "Seattle". I do think Liberty Flights has enough mint types for your first order. Seems like all my menthol smoking friends have ended up with fruit and candy-type flavors...and some spearmints that taste like Spearmint Gum to me. Good luck! You are in for a real treat...

For the cartos I would order a syringe as well. I ordered them without and they're difficult to fill without one. LF has them for .79 cents I think.

As for liquid, I don't have any from LF so I can't say if they're good or not. I'm still on a quest to find my favorite menthol myself, but right now I'm using FSUSA's Menthol Ultra.

Have you tried the "condom method"? (trust me I'm not talking dirty, it is a real method to fill cartomizers. LOL). Just look on YouTube. There is a video put out by Dr. Vapor that shows you how to do it. Its a snap. Easiest method out there. You use one of the end caps that the cartomizers come with for protection during transit. Fill it almost to the top with juice, then push the carto slowly down in it. I put it in thread side down. If you remove the white cap first (the mouthpiece with the hole in it), you can watch while it fills up so you don't over or under fill. Works like a champ. Sorry, I don't know how to add a link to the video, but its relatively easy to find. I'm sure someone has posted it here at the forum as well.
