I love the look of freshly polished copper but it's impossible to keep that mirrored finish if left unprotected. I found this product called Protectaclear that has been working like a dream for me. Pluses include:

+variety of application methods including wipe, dip, and spray.
+self-leveling & fast drying
+suitable for use on all unpainted metals
+adheres to and protects patina
+highly corrosion, heat, and scratch resistant
+food safe and environmentally friendly
+can be quickly and cleanly removed using xylene if needed
+does not discolor or crack over time
+still feels like metal after application
+odorless once cured
+coating can be repaired without being removed first.

Personally I went from polishing every few days to polishing pretty much never (I almost miss it until it comes time to remove the patina from the threads and contacts). I'm very clumsy and I can definitely say that the coating helps immensely with scratches. Scratches that do occur are mostly stopped by the coating, and those that do get through to the metal are not nearly as deep as they would otherwise be.

My preferred application method is just rip up strips of a paper towel which I then roll up and use as tiny paint brushes (one per coat), I don't even have to tape the threads. Because the mods now keep their mirror finish whenever I do get the urge to re-do the coating/polish (bad scratch or if I'm going someplace special) the entire process to remove the coating, polish the mod, and reapply the coating actually takes less time than it used to take me to go through a standard polishing of an uncoated mod, and I'm saving money on polish. I also use this on my copper drip tips and it has completely stopped that greenish gunk from building up as the metal reacts with e-juice and saliva.

I ordered directly from the manufacturer (right here in Cali) and got fast shipping and excellent customer service. I like it so much I went and applied it to my brass door knobs!
