hello,

I have been vaping for a while and I am going to start DIY for several reasons,

I ordered 120ML of 100mg/ml PG nic liquid, no nic PG and VG, flavors, nic test kit etc,

the nic base should last me well over 6 months, I consider the 100mg liquid too dangerous to work with every day and I don't want to open base liquid container every day exposing it to oxygen either so my idea was to take half of it (60 ml) and add more PG to make a safer working base liquid,

So then begs the question what nic level should my working base be? the mix i make now kinda determines what I can do later, being inexperienced i am not sure what I will want to do for the next 3 months.

for easy safe math I was kinda thinking of making my base twice the strength of my finished e-liquid,

My question to those with more experience: is the 50% empty space enough room for vg, flavorings, water and everything else i might want to do ?

or should I make my base stronger so I have a larger space to work in with the additives?

It depends. Yeah, that's not the answer you were looking for was it?

At 50% of your mix, you have 50% left for other components. If you wanted a 50/50 PG/VG mix then there is not enough room for flavoring or water if you need it, let alone a higher VG mix. If you wanted to try DaMulta's Sweet Tart recipe, you'd only have 15% left after nic and flavorings.

It does make double checking your math quick and easy. It may work for you.

(It would never work for me. I can go through 120ml of 100mg in one mixing session. Yeah, I know, I mix alot at a time, but I only get a chance to mix once a month or so and I tend to go overboard everytime so I can give juice away.)

got my stuff in today and decanted 120ml of 100mg diluted down to 40mg into 9 and some remainder 30ml bottles filled to 33 ml with a one ml head space, and chucked them in the freezer, (I wish I had ordered glass already)

there are some who lean for others mistakes
there are some who only learn from their own mistakes
there are some who do not learn.

Today put me in the second category, despite reading here about starting with just one flavor at a time, silly me i went straight to a 3 flavor mix, wintergreen menthol and koolada in %100 PG, sounded like it would be good and minty, they are all just minty flavors right what could go wrong?

well it was horribly irritating, made me cough, and worse I learned nothing as i have no idea which of the 3 flavors was to blame. the only solution was to dilute it,

I am glad i went for 4x strength as when i went to dilute it I had lots of room to work with, I added %20 vg and %10 water and it is toned down and vapable,

I would recommend 4 things:
1. I would start with small 1 flavoring batches with a low percentage of flavor.
2. I would not add nic juice until after I decided that I liked the taste. See #4
3. I wouldn't add distilled water at all. If your VG is too thick, add PG to it.
4. If you use small batches, and haven't added your nic juice, then you can afford to throw away a VERY BAD BATCH. Start over rather than tweeking.

My best advice for what it's worth !
