Well, I'm a new REO user and just got my brand new Grand/LP from Rob which I believe means I have the new contacts so I can't speak to the old but for sure I'm having to use noalox on my PD2900s. I basically just got my REO right before I had to roll out of town for a few days and this is what happened to my batteries using a 0.9 Ohm coil:

Hopefully you can see that there. Anyway noalox applied to the positive contact of the battery before installing has solved the problem. Although now my PD2900s have to be just right on my charger or they do really weird things. I have an XTAR VP-1 and I will put a depleted cell in there, say ~3.7 V, and it will start charging and in a few seconds it will report the cell at 4.2 and indicate charge complete. This is also solved for me by applying a bit of noalox before installing the cell in the charger. Weird.

I have this precise problem as well. It only happens with 2 batteries specifically for me. It only happens on 2 EH IMR flat tops. All of my AW IMRs, EH IMR button tops, VTC etc are all fine. Only these 2 present the same problem between both grands and the same exact wonky behavior in my charger.

Is it possible that some batteries are maybe more sensitive to pitting or issue from the arching?

Must be the batteries. I have a grand & a mini, both with new contacts. I've only used AW batteries in the mini & never had any visible arcing or marks on the contacts or batteries. I have Orbtronic SX22 for my grand, and there are black marks all over the batteries & contact- I cleaned both with Noxon, and it happens again within an hour. Very visible arcing.
I've never gone lower that .6 ohms (stay around .7-.8 ohms on both devices)
I just ordered some VTC4 & VTC5s to see if it helps.

I have this problem as well with the Orbtronic IMR 18650 2250mah's at 1.4ohm. It's even leaving chrome looking deposits(looks like a chrome line)on the contact of the LP Grand. I noticed a performance drop so I cleaned the Reo. With little to no improvement, I got a magnifying glass and checked the contact. Sure enough I found the problem. I know this is probably the unpardonable sin but I had to lightly sand the deposits off with some 800 grit paper. I've been using noalox since day one. Now it hits like a train again...lol. It's got to be these particular batteries. In a dark room there is no visible arching though.

In 4 years I've never used it ..... old or new contacts.

Guess 1.3 ohms is a great place to live because it requires zero maintenance ......

Had a grand with thousands of ml through it and that firing pin looked like new the whole time.

Same for me except on only these 2 batteries...I wrap anywhere from 0.9-1.2 myself. Im not certain for the others, but its the positive terminal of my battery that is showing the pitting, my firing pin is perfect sparkly gold. The issue happens even at or just above 1 ohm. If I use noalox these are great batteries - I just thought I was the only crazy one experiencing weird batteries. its really odd.

I use the same batteries and run .9 coils and have always had these batteries spark like crazy if there isn't any noalox. I thought with the new contacts it wouldn't happen but it does. AW's don't do this but I love the extended vape time so I keep up with the noalox :)

The extended vape time is what I also like about the 2250's. The voltage really doesn't seem to drop off until I get toward the bottom of the bottle. It's nice to be able to change the bottle and the battery at the same time. At 1.4 to 1.5 ohm my voltage is in the low 3.8 range by the time it's time to refill the bottle. I may look into something else later due to the deposit factor though.
