I am 45 and have kids ,my neighbors are mostly retired older folk . And over the last 15 years I have yet to have A real conversation with anyone here. So I have come to the conclusion that neighbors are over rated. And as I get older I want to move where there are little to no neighbors in sight. Does this happen as you get older or is it just me? Also a lot of them have no lives and just nit pick. I had the city ordinance guy over today telling me I had the garbage cans to close to the back yard gate lol. Also that behind my garage which is detached and way back in the yard , had 2 garbage bags that needed to be removed . Who sees this and how? Stalker , peeping tom? I so want to get out of this city and out to the farm land or just somewhere where I don't have to deal with neighbors or at least the type that have nothing to do but call the city over dumb stuff. How are your neighbors? Love hate em or just ignore them?
thanks for allowing me to vent....

I am not too sure about the neighbor situation. I think that all depends where are you. Some places are just warmer and do have a strong sense of community, while others are more akin to the Arctic situation: cold and nothing inside until trouble comes.

I have been in both situations and despite the fact that sometimes you could lean on the community and feel support from them more often than not the community (or someone in it with delusions of grandeur) makes life difficult. So I like you think ( or at least in my case) dream of life with no neighbors

I live in the woods. I am the one that is constantly complaining about my one and only neighbor. Their dogs are left to run loose and they have a fully fenced lot. They only mow their lawn once every two months that is if they do it at all. Their teens are left unsupervised to smoke and do whatever they please whenever they please. They throw trash and gum over my privacy fence into my pool and all over my concrete. A little bag of trash and a garbage can out of place would be the least of my complaints. We used to have an old couple next door for years they were pleasant and we were the kind of neighbors you watch ours and we will keep an eye out for yours. That was friendly enough for me. Now I wish I had no neighbors. There are going to be complaints whether by you or others you can't win either way.

In my area rules rule.Let me give my thoughts then blast em.Last house no rules neighbors became bad, playing spades in the back yard till 3 am three work day nights in a row, chasing each other around with knives screaming in the back yard..Then the baggy undies drug sales in the front yard.Did i mention the illegal naked day care all day?Took 3 contracts to sell that house and a lot of luck.New house in a community that has lots of rules, what color to paint house, trees to choice, where and when to put trash, how to act etc...=nirvana.

ps- my experience if you live in an area that needs rules get behind the biggest gate and hope they have real law enforcement to back up the rules.

ps2- a good fence makes a good neighbor but a good club(cops) trumps it.

ps3- I dont talk to my neighbors much either

Being an ol' fart (67 years young), let me note that there is a huge diff twix neighbors and local residents!!!

Da days of being a neighbor is unfortunately pretty much *poof* in all too many locales nowadays.

I do practice neighborhood 'situational awareness' (without being nosy), assist when & where I can and know I'm not the only one.

Just keep in mind, life doesn't grandly reward those that put no effort into it!

Always a joy Iffy, really do talk to my neighbors its just a golf course community that wants a lot of time from those that work(average age in my city is 70?)Love all who patrol, I got real officers who do the best job in the world( lock down our city with felon checks thru car readers for any one who drives in.That sounds kinda hard core , but after a few months its sleeping in total bliss.there is no way to get to my house other that walking without getting checked for felon, license, warrant in real time and stopped in 5 minutes.
Community is always the answer, its just that work makes me feel I dont stay as active as i should.
